Just to clarify Shinomiya is number 3 only on Squad 3, there are people stronger than her in other squads, and she is at 50 something percent right know

Reno did say something a few episodes back about switching to the ice bullets bcuz it fit his style better and seemed to help him advance his combat percentage
Vice-captain Hoshina has no talent for firearms. Like with the suits, the guns are limited by the innate ability of the user, which is why the same gun is sometimes effective against a kaiju when used by different people. The big guns are necessary for taking down a kaiju above a certain size, as its mass with protect its core. He does have a talent for blades and can quickly take down the smaller kaiju with ease. Captain Ashiro on the other hand is a rare prodigy when it comes to firearms and can unleash devastating strikes against even the largest of kaiju, which are often slow moving. However, she is serious overkill for dealing with smaller kaiju and will cause collateral damage if she tried. She would have to switch to a smaller gun but large numbers are an issue for her. Given that some people have talent for certain types of weapons over others, I have to assume the officers also have affinities for the different ammo types and some are better at the freeze rounds than others.
powerful female characters with oversized melee weapons never cease to amaze me. Shinomiya was putting in work with just a stop sign in the last couple of episodes, a giant axe is a great add!
Gotta rep my boi #10 and say his transformation was not cheap, he was intentionally fighting at a disadvantage to find a strong opponent, not so different from what the vice captain did by targeting the cracks in his armor to begin with. No spoilers as to why #10 is one of my favourite characters in this show :P
