  • The Lilygo ESP32VGA TTGO board is a fantastic board with all the ports to build a mini computer interface. In this video, I show you how to prank your favorite IT guy or computer enthusiast. The prank is harmless, but will probably leave them scratching their head for a few minutes.

    You could wire up the board to a spare Molex connector 5V line instead of the power bank, would make it work when the PC is fired up. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend doing anything like this, as nowadays there are so many real threats out there to be taken seriously, running a prank on a PC is not as innocent or harmless as it might have been a few years back.

      Yeah. The main point of the video is to let people know that this cool board exists and that people should get creative with it.

      @@AnotherMaker It certainly is a neat little board, and the ESP32 is quite a powerhouse for what it costs. With the additional features on that board it makes it a useful and tidy platform for experimentation.

    Unfortunately none of my work colleagues monitors have VGA, all HDMI or Display Port. Would have been a good prank years ago though.

    • @AnotherMaker
      @AnotherMaker  2 года назад

      Wow. That's crazy. I think pretty much every monitor in my office still has a vga port. This thing still has lots of fun uses, though.

      @@AnotherMaker Really? We had an equipment refresh in 2018 and none of the monitors have VGA, we have a few we kept that has DVI and VGA but none of the newer ones have it. How old are your monitors?

    Is it possible to make this work on an Arduino UNO R3? I work for an MSP and would LOVE to try this on some coworkers but can’t justify buying a ESP32 (my wife says no) but I have an Arduino laying around.

    • @AnotherMaker
      @AnotherMaker  2 года назад

      I don't think you could do it with an R3, but any ESP32 would work.

      or dream? haha It 's more about how long you leave it in place. Ideally, it would be one of those things where you see it yourself and call someone over and say "hey, look at this" to some other IT person, so you can control the situation.

    Am blown away by this ... have not seen the board before!
    Is the ESP32 doing all the heavy lifting to generate the VGA display? Seems like it must be.
    The device has sophisticated USB/UART bridge chip (CH9102F) as well, that can do 2mb/s.
    Odd they do not build USB 2.0 into the ESP, like the STM32 MCUs.

    • @AnotherMaker
      @AnotherMaker  2 года назад +1

      Yeah. The ESP32 is doing the heavy lifting. RUclipsr Bitluni did a bunch of work on this a few years ago. I agree on the USB. I haven't tried bluetooth, but if I can get a BT keyboard working with this, it's a gamechanger.

      I think any chip using usb spec requires them to pay royalty tax or whatever same like the HDMI does
      So that would increase the price probably, not 100% sure though
