You really don't know? If you want to believe that Egypt got Sinai back because of this conflict go ahead but a cursory look at history would tell you that the Sinai was returned to Egypt 1979 in return for recognition of the state of Israel and for guarantees of long term peace. Egypt was also received US military aid as a result of the agreement.

Fascinating and revealing that the one Egyptian general in his book complained that the Israelis breached the cease fire and took more Egyptian territory, saying that it was hardly a "dashing and gallant" action after he and his crew had launched the initial attack on Shabbat without warning or current provocation and had themselves failed (thank God) to keep their word to their own allies, the Syrians.
But then duplicity, treachery and blame are common weapons in political maneuvers, especially in Islamic countries...

And also when the enemy surrounds that army then finds himself in a very weak military position and is forced to back off while that surrounded army never retreats. Check this out from Israel's side “As for the third army, in spite of our encircling them they resisted and advanced to occupy in fact a wider area of land at the east. Thus, we can not say that we defeated or conquered them” - David Elazar.

    • @FredHandle1

The 3rd army was finally encircled thats true, but the city of Suez fought & wasn't taken. Where is the propaganda?
Did you miss the 1st part where Sadat offers peace for land & Golda said no? thats bc a thief is only deterred by fear.
What u are forgetting is that the Egyptians & Syrians were fighting w/o no air force, & low technology tanks bc the US & Russia conspired not to supply them so as to keep an artificial balance in the conflict.
So basically the Arabs broke both Zionist super-powers strangle hold on their potential. You don't understand this war & what its about.
The Israelis own the US & hence can stick their hands into the US military store, take the latest weapons at no charge.
Unlike the Arabs who have to pay in cash & are not allowed to buy even level 2 weapons, all to keep the poor Israelis ahead on technology.
You lost the war in the days from 6-9 October [as this lacking documentary says], 1/2 your army destroyed 1/3 of the air force shot down with minimal losses on the other side [we read too]. This is a complete defeat in 3 days.
The whole world saw Golda crying on international TV.
Then the US in the person of Kissinger asked Sadat to stop & promised him a fair resolution.
Kissinger betrayed this, stalled Sadat while he replenished Israel w/even stronger armament & cruize missiles to remove the AA missile shield.
So basically that war was fought twice once by Israel then by the US. Its a Zionist crusade against all & any Arab.
In the face of these challenges I'd say the Arabs were fighting with one hand tied & caused more than the damage required to get Israel scared enough to hand over the stolen land. Don't turn things on their head & corrupt history as your ancestors did to the Torah, Miss IDF propaganda. Sinai was handed back through your thieving nose & soon the Golan will come don't be fooled by Trump's empty promises.
Then you'll be driven out of all God's holy lands as prophesied. Count your days bc God never breaks a promise & never sleeps.

To be accurate, the mainstream Israeli leaders were always hoping to trade Sinai for peace with Egypt.
The 1973 war alerted all parties, including the USA and Russia,
that a deal best happen sooner rather than later to prevent additional conflict
    which could involve the superpowers.
It also gave Sadat the standing in Egypt to negotiate directly with Israel, which is what Israel wanted.

    • @KSalem32

Sadat genuinely offered a peace deal in 1971.

We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, "Save me!" He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

I worked in Beirut teaching English Sept '95-July '96, when the Israelis were occupying the south of Lebanon (their 'security zone') & the Syrians were occupying the rest of Lebanon. A Lebanese teacher at my school told me a good joke about Israel. He said, "We Lebanese know that the Israelis want peace - they want a piece of Lebanon (to get water from the Litani river), a piece of Egypt (the Sinai), a piece of Syria (the Golan Heights) and a piece of the West Bank (Jordan)!" It amused me!

Classic Muslim phenomena of turning an abysmal loss into an imaginary victory. The Israelis clearly beat the Arabs on both fronts here. Meanwhile in the east, the Pakistanis did the same with their 'victory' of the war they had with India in 1965.

it's like watching a nazi's video showing footage of dead american soldiers all over Normandy's coast line and dead Russian soldiers all over Stalingrad and then add the title "how we won the second world war".
showing the wreckage of Israeli armor deep in Egyptian land is not a sign for Egyptian victory nor defeat, only to the fact that Israeli forces got that far inside Egypt during a war Egypt started by sneak attack in a holy day, and had the first play in.
in the end of the war, Egypt recognised israel and agreed finally to sign peace with Israel, UNDER THE TERMS ISRAEL REQUESTED BEFORE THE YOM KIPUR WAR. in other words, Sa'adat could have had the same deal, without the war.
so, the ONLY way to say egypt won the war is under the follow logic:
if the outcome of a war is a long lasting peace then both sides won the war.

@bulluni it does matter when you cannot replace troops. I recently read a couple of books quoting sources from both sides. During the 1948, the combined Arab army numbes shifted from 30 to 57K units. The Israelis had 29K soldiers at the beginning of the war and 100K by the end of it, including logistics units and thousand of women soldiers. The Israelis couldn't afford to lose troops. Most WW2 veterans who fought on Israel's side were actually non-Jewish volunteers and, yes +- 10%.

This is kinda like arguing about who won WW2 40 yrs after the fact. Egypt and Isreal have had no conflict for decades and even exchange tourism and trade. The warriors of both fought very well and sacrificed greatly, and from their perspectives they both won; Isreal survived and Egypt restored their honor and most of their lost territory. Nobody wants to discuss the military or historical aspects which are fascinating. Nobody was "humiliated", but Suez slowed them, while the war's end saved Suez

@chokitpi agree with you, in war you cannot play safe always, you have to take risks, and Egypt did not want to by moving the SAM batteries that also protected Cairo, and their hesitation and what I feel was a betrayal to Syria prevented them from a stronger position in battle. Their hesitation gave Israel and the US time to resupply, regroup, reorganize and be better prepared.
