Hank I don't know if you'll actually read this but I wanted to let you know the skin around the testicles is much stronger than regular human skin and so these guys in the UK invented a chair you sit in naked and your balls hang down through a hole in the chair and dip into a pot of boiling water below the chair. The skin doesn't get burned & it kills all your sperms. Using it daily it only took a couple days to reduce their sperms count to 0 and when you want to have a kid you stop using it and within a couple days your spern count is normal again.
I have a question about evolution & the letting go of traits that inhibit mating or general survival, specifically in humans. I've read somewhere that the Y chromosome is deteriorating. It used to have the same amount or goodies that the X chromosome had but now Y has only 55 genes, while X has 900! So my question is: Could human men be causing their own extinction because their aggressive or violent behaviors cause females to avoid mating with them and also cause an alarming amount of femicide? (I read those statistics yesterday...BIG YIKES!) OR, could human men cause their own extinction because the aggressive and violent, dominating nature of men could cause nature to simply phase out/stop creating high testosterone babies or even no male babies at all -& the sexual reproductive organs become intersex so anyone can mate with anyone? I know we all start out as female and the ones with the Y chromosome turns the sex organ into male genitalia. Could the Y chromosome just keep accumulating bad mutations until their genes are rendered useless and disappear entirely? If its the aggressiveness in a gene that threatens the survival of a species, wouldn't that then necessitate that genetic trait be mutated out of it? Also, would it be a result of just nature or nurture? Like, would humanity end up there, naturally anyway or is humanity speed lining its own extinction because of culture influencing unwanted behaviors - (patriarchy, poverty, violence glorified in movies etc)? (Excluding nuclear war and climate change. ....unless both of those are also because of man's violent, dominating, nature? Asking for humanity. I don't know how to summarize things into a simple question so, feel free to chop it up so it's more simple & makes sense. 😁
Hey @ludwig I feel the taint pain sometimes, I think it's just a muscle that we don't often use and when we sneeze or in my case sometimes when I get startled or tense my whole body you tense that specific muscle and you feel like your taint hurts. Much like getting a cramp but only on the muscle by the taint. You tense up when you sneeze and sometimes it cramps.
I love how comfortable Ludwig is playing the fool. Obviously he has genuine confusion on things, but he doesn’t mind being who he is or being the butt of the joke
Having experienced this also, but only on rare occasion with BIG sneezes, it blows my mind that Hank (or every guy into their mid-20s and beyond) hasn't experienced this.
@dictatortot1703I saw a video from like 10 years ago the other day and he looked like my age (I'm 25). It was crazy to me as someone who didn't follow him back then.
Ludwig is such a good guest. It takes a lot of emotional intelligence to purposefully play the wide eyed goof when he’s obviously a smart curious guy. Hank effortlessly counters it so well with genuine excitement to explain and the wittiness to play along. What a fun episode of two good and funny dudes
Ludwig got to where he is because he does that perfectly. He’s flexible but never takes things too seriously. It brings in the people just here for laughs and people who want substance
ok no i got the question about car registrations and this POS feels 'powerful' driving without insurance? He's a moron. There's no sugar coating it, massive moron.
Yes! I love how he plays the idiot ironically, unlike so many people who want to be "simple". He isn't trying to one-up Hank's knowledge or smarts, or even trying to seem smart at all, but neither is he getting defensive about his lack of knowledge; he simply is, and it's hilarious. He obviously understands very well what's being discussed, otherwise he couldn't subvert it so well and so often.
I'm only 5 minutes in, but it is unbelievable how strong Ludwig's "high school junior" energy is. Edit: Y'all he's playing a bit and I know he's playing a bit and he's really good at playing the bit, can we not be hurtful please?
I don't know if anyone suggested it, but maybe, maybe, adding a small sound indicator when the notes pop up on the screen? So those of us who are doing other things can look up and not miss the curiosities.
I'd really rather they just did an insert of Hank - or anyone - speaking the sidebar content like that. I hate having to find my remote, coerce the roku RUclips app into understanding what I want, yes, no yes, that timecode, read the thing that was onscreen too little, restart the play, dismiss the control overlay, accidentally quit the video, restart the video, ...I just think there's a better way, ya know?
Lmaoo the car accidents stat killed me, Ludwig proudly going «Not a lot!» with the fact pop up saying this was a lifetime’s worth of car accidents for most people 😂
This is a great example of two excellent conversationalists being allowed to do their thing and how entertaining it can be. Really good energy, chemistry, and the ability to play off each other. Also really good editing too.
I've never particularly been a Ludwig fan (not a hater, but just not a viewer), but "I don't know, I think some of it is in the kidney" made me laugh so damn hard
He can be very funny. He released a video recently where he worked at a french bakery for a day (which is his dream job when done with video stuff) and it was super genuine and interesting.
Same, that was hilarious! My problem with Ludwig was always that he can't be serious for a sec. He's always gotta joke about everything. I think he's a really funny dude and he genuinely seems really smart (any smart person is not scared of asking questions for fear of sounding dumb), but I can only tolerate him in small doses lol.
"Intravenous means 'into the vein' but we understand what Ludwig meant." HAHAHAHA Whoever was in charge of writing the tips to fact check Ludwig must have had a fun time xD
I love their dynamic of "guy who's not afraid to ask dumb questions" and "guy who has answers to most questions and likes solving questions". The way they bounce off each other and make each other laugh is genuinely hilarious.
My favorite thing about Ludwig is really just his method of conversing. He's got immaculate vibes. Smooth but humble, clever but not overly witty, and chill af without being disconnected. What a guy
I really think his original dream of being a late night show host would have panned out well. Intelligence, comedy, wit, and in touch with pretty much everyone. You could bring him home to meet your mom and your friends would also like him, I think that's the key
There’s a hockey player named Seth Jarvis. He’s kind of like Ludwig in the way of smoothness. The commentators people talked to Jarvis right after a game and you could tell, the commentators were pleasantly surprised in how smoothly and comfortable he was with conversing. Absolutely no hesitation. It’s refreshing.
It's really incredible how it's only taken 4 episodes for AHA to almost reach Taskmaster levels for me of "it doesn't matter if you don't know who they are going in, you'll have a great time watching and appreciate them anyway". Also amazed at how ludwig manages to talk about the male reproductive system with the same amount of befuddlement that for years I had only associated with men talking about the female reproductive system
@yxl72 Lud is a himbo, which is usually characterized not as someone who is stupid, but just someone who doesn't think. But it occasionally slips out that he could think critically if he wants to, but usually doesn't.
@BL3446 well yeah but he is also clearly playing a character for comic relief for the entire video which is what they are referring to when they say "he's playing the part", it's because of the satirical layer
@ But he isn't. This is the genuine Ludwig. This is consistent to his podcasts, his streams, even his Melee commentary. It's not an insult, but this isn't a character he is playing for laughs. Hank even acknowledges that he is very authentic. Sure, he recognizes that he is the question-asker and he is self-aware that some of his questions are silly and he is having fun, but he isn't playing the part or acting. This is just him in a real form.
@BL3446 i would say he is most definitely thinking throughout this entire video just based on the jokes he's cracking. to be able to think of bits on the spot that r unexpected but relevant requires great reaction time, common knowledge, and the understanding your audience.
When Ludwig was talking about books I thought “damn I never finished house of leaves” and then he dropped it by name, very glad for the reminder to finish it
I've got a copy, but have yet to reread it. I'm afraid my compulsiveness will kick in flipping through pages like a mad man. What's at the bottom of the staircase? The 5 1/2 minute hallway?
Gotta say, in nearly 35 years of life, I have never once had taint pain when I sneeze. ...intense shoulder pain on occasion from the pressure, yes. But not taint pain.
@IceMetalPunk Can't say I have ever met someone with that particular ailment. I sneeze rather violently at times and can vomit from the pain of testicles contracting up trying to re-enter the pelvis
@IceMetalPunk I've had it once or twice, I think it's like pulling a muscle or something, cause it hurts in the same place to sneeze afterward for a while.
I have the same issue as Ludwig and it is EXACTLY as he describes. Every 10-11 sneezes hurts my taint as if someone stabbed it. I have noticed people who have this same issue also get taint pains when sudden abrupt velocity changes vertically like landing wrong on your feet. It also is about once every 10-11 times.
@kazyhachi I used to have it and I've realized that it hasn't happened in a few years, so maybe it goes away with age? Although I never had any issue with abrupt velocity changes like you've described, only when sneezing (and not every time). Although for me it was like a short cramp.
Ok, out of ALL the books in my wife's 500+ book library, I never expected Ludwig to mention House of Leaves as a first choice. I know he's way smarter and more cultured than he often seems, but dang, that's a rare pull. For those who aren't book nerds out there, House of Leaves is the book that sortof planted the seed of liminal spaces and backrooms. It came out in 2000, and is about this family that finds an impossible door in their house. Where it is located, it shouldn't lead anywhere but outside, but there's no other side of the door on the outside of the house. Instead, it leads into a hallway... Now, that's not the freaky thing about the book. The story has its extremely horrific scenes, but the draw of the book is how it is printed, with many things that messes with your brain while you read it. Both me and the missus are quite logical people, but that book does something to your brain and it is hard to read it all in one go. We both had to take breaks, put the book down and just do something, ANYTHING, except thinking of that book for a while. Well worth the read though, it's a scary but interesting experience.
Interestingly, it's kind of a companion piece with his sister's album Haunted. They were both written about their father's death. Great artist, shame what the music industry did to her.
Hank Green has a truly shocking amount of chemistry with pretty much anyone, but this in particular is two energies that don't seem like they would go together, but they bounce off each other so well that it might be my favorite episode so far.
hank! question for ur big brain: why do i tend to make less mistakes while doing repetitive tasks when i’m not focusing on the task? today i was crocheting and noticed that i had a very consistent, clean and speedy rhythm only once i started drifting off in thought, but as soon as i focused on the work, i started making more mistakes and lost the rhythm completely. i’ve noticed this with other tasks and skills, and i’ve always wondered why!
Maybe something to do with muscle memory? The same way you walk automatically without thinking about it but when you intentionally move your legs forward to walk it feels more awkward.
My best guess it's relying on the intuition vs relying on the logic part of your brain. When you have something down pat, something you've done forever, you don't need to think about it, your brain just intuits how to do it. This is great at things you have done a lot, but terrible at new things. The logic part is the opposite. You consciously think about what your doing, which is great for new things. You don't have ingrained patterns, so you have to think about it. Now intuitive is better for things your used to and logic better for new things, but logic will still make mistakes because it's new. So when you think about doing something you have done a lot, you activate the logic part, and now your making mistakes because your brain is fighting itself a bit. It knows what feels right but it also doesn't know why so you question and then it messes up your rhythm. I'm no expert so hopefully this isn't horribly incorrect.
I'll never fault a cancer survivor for advocating being more transparent with your doctor, early notice could save your life. He's not saying "you're probably dying seek help immediately" just that "hey, that's a little weird, probably worth mentioning next time you see them even if it's nothing, just in case"
I want him to describe what the pain is like. Burning? Stabbing? Abandonment? I gots to know! (Not because of any correlation on me but because it's curious AF and the character of the pain is a huge differentiator.)
i like the notice at the bottom saying how the episode was going to be uncensored aside from the intro, i was worried i wasn't gonna hear hank say a bunch of swears
At 16:53 I think Ludwig is referencing the 2016 Libertarian debate where they were arguing that you shouldn’t need a license to drive, and the line “What’s next, a license for my damn toaster?” got cheers from the in person crowd and ridicule from the internet afterwards
NOT BEEN TO A DOCTOR IN 7 YEARS ???? How the F??? What in the American Dystopia ??? In developed countries we see our doctor once every quarter of the year
Ludwig is such a breath of fresh air of young male content creators, his Japan tip to tip series with Michael Reeves was so nice to see a healthy friendship between guys and pushing themselves to learn new things and being respectful to the culture. just guys being dudes what's better than this!!!
also for the hair growing back looking more bald before it all grows, hair has different growth stages which aren’t all at the same time and there’s a dormant stage in there too
another name to add to the hopeful guest list - Adam Savage. i feel like that conversation would be so interesting. learning about like glue chemistry or whatever
Unironically hyped to hear Ludwig tell Hank Green about the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour. Also I love the fear in Hank’s eyes when he realizes lud is about to guess what year he was born lmao
Oldhead here; back when the laptop heat thing hit the news headlines, laptops would frequently get so hot that they were really uncomfortable to use in your lap, like they would borderline burn you, and Apple got into a bit of trouble over it. We're thankfully in a much better spot now for computing. In that context the advisory makes a lot more sense.
And ionizing radiation, which would be single photons capable of inducing electrons to alter state and damage generic material without damaging the cell enough to make its reproduction impossible, isn't the only hazard. Microwave radiation can simply cook cells by aggregating vibrations as heat until they start doing chemistry. But, the power emitted by the wifi/bluetooth radio in a laptop isn't enough to worry about. The heat coming off the CPU is way more than the heat the network is creating.
Yeah those old macbooks got real hot. The new ones don’t even get close to the heat of the old ones. Yay for new technology better protecting our little swimmers.
What was the book? I forgot to write it down and now I'm scrolling through the comments because Hank's last rec (Space Opera) was the best thing I read that year
Since you asked for suggested guests, here's a couple of RUclipsrs who I think would ask super interesting questions: - Tom Scott - Sung Won Cho (aka ProZD) - Niko Pueringer (Corridor Digital - or anyone from their team!) - Derek Muller (Veritasium) - Literally anyone who has hosted a Crash Course series - Sam Reich or Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dropout) - Henry Reich (MinutePhysics) - Simone Giertz - Jenny Nicholson - Natalie Wynn (Contrapoints) - Abigail Thorn (PhilosophyTube) - Patrick H. Willems - Quintin Smith (Quinn's Quest, formerly Shut Up & Sit Down) - Matthew Colville
LOVED this episode. Hank and Ludwig's energies play off each other so perfectly. Not sure if the subtitles were auto-generated or made by a person, but in the last section it keeps mistaking Hank saying 'slurs' for 'swear words'. Kind of changes the meaning of the sentences.
I'm not sure if this has been pointed out before, but in German the exclamation "Aha!" (Also "Ah!") Is what you do when something is explained to you and then you get that click in your brain where it suddenly all makes sense and you now understand this new thing/learnt something. So the abbreviation of the show works perfectly! ❤ Sidenote: there even is a public TV show about science targeted at kids that's been running for like 20 years called "Wissen macht Ah!" Which means "Knowledge makes Ah(a)!" 😊
Hank: Why do my loose hairs stick to my shower wall after it dries? I understand they stick when wet because of things like adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension. But that's all water based. Once the shower and the hair dry out, how does the hair remain attached?
My guess is that there are two factors at play here. For larger chunks of hair, the water trapped between the wall and the hair can't escape during evaporation, so it never fully dries out, keeping it stuck. And for smaller bits of hair, you can stick dry hair on the wall as well as long as it's light enough, because of slight charge imbalances between the hair and the wall.
So, you still have the same issues (all of the factors you mentioned are caused by intermolecular forces like van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonding) with dry hair, just slightly less pronounced because there's less hydrogen bonding without water. But you also likely have very thin films of hair product and ions from the water that are helping to act like glue. Think what would happen if you dipped a strand of hair in salt water and let it dry on a sheet of glass. You're going to get tiny particles of salt crusting along where the hair lies. Even though your tap water isn't as concentrated as that salt water, you probably have a similar effect going on. Also, a lot of the components of haircare products are designed to help keep hair hydrated (and thus hold on to water, making it stick better.)
my thought is that it's simply not heavy enough to fall down from where it settled - when i shed a lot of hair and swirl it together on the shower wall, THAT falls off as it dries
@ilexdiapason I was going to say the same. I always clump it together and say "I'll put that in the bin once I'm dried/dressed" and then totally forget about it until next time I go to shower and there's a dry clump on the floor.
Since you asked for suggested guests I think Maya Higa would be a very interesting guest. She's the Founder and Executive Director of Alveus Sanctuary which is a Non-Profit Wildlife sanctuary that spreads conservation awareness and education using online platforms like twitch and youtube.
There is in fact another factor which amplifies this. Each hair grows in a cycle - eventually they stop growing, rest for several months (telogen), drop out and restart growing again (anagen). In a person without balding, about 10% of hairs are in telogen at any given time. In a person with balding the amount can be considerably more. In any event, when you shave the hair and let it grow back, 10% grow back in, contributing to the appearance of thinner hair.
Towards the end, the captions suggest a few times that Hank's making a distinction between curse words and swear words, but in the audio the distinction he's making is between curse words and slurs, which makes more sense. Might be worth correcting the caption there.
@hank you know why your hair felt so soft when it was growing back as opposed to when you get a normal haircut? It’s because your follicles were growing brand new versus blunted as they would have been if you shaved your head. When you shave your head, you get a blunted hair growing back so it feels coarser, but when your hair falls out or you wax it and pull it out from the “root “ it grows back in a tapered, natural way which makes it softer. And also why it feels like babies hair because their hair is also growing in brand new!
As far as future guests go, Tom Scott must be at the top of the list. I think my list would go something like 1: Tom Scott 2: Milo Rossi (miniminuteman) 3: Kyle Hill 4: Abigail Thorn (Philosophytube) 5: Adam Savage (Tested (& Mythbusters)) 6: John Walsh (Super Eyepatch Wolf) 7: Jamie Raines (Jammidodger) 8: Harry Brewis (Hbomberguy) 9: Simone Giertz or Mercury Stardust 10: Jacob Geller 11: Nicole Coenen 12: Devin Stone (LegalEagle)
+1 for Jacob Geller another person to look in to is Ben Hanson of Minnmax. Jacob works with him quite a bit. He is amazing at interviewing people and id just like to see the tables turned on him a little.

I think RFK jr stole your acronym Hank!
Is there a cut for time for this video? I got an email with just the link for Rhett and Link (which I'll happily watch as well)

Black-rock-it money
hello thank you for making me feel better about my taint! fun times!
🔥
wow people respond so fast.
Hey @ludwig I feel the taint pain sometimes, I think it's just a muscle that we don't often use and when we sneeze or in my case sometimes when I get startled or tense my whole body you tense that specific muscle and you feel like your taint hurts. And what about the car?
you look younger in this video
I love how comfortable Ludwig is playing the fool. Obviously he has genuine confusion on things, but he doesn’t mind being who he is or being the butt of the joke
I love that too! Especially because he’s actually intelligent but doesn’t feel the need to flaunt it.
The pimple butt of the joke
Honestly one of the main reasons I love Ludwig so much 🙌🏽
he is one of the most authentic non specific content creators that I've watched regularly 🤙
@currentlyquacking I definitely do not get the impression that he's actually intelligent
If Hank ever told me to my face that he thinks I should see a doctor about a problem I just told him about, I would NOT be that chill.
TBF that's always the answer even if it's probably nothing. Doctors are the only ones qualified to give you an answer.
It's by far most likely to be what future Hank said, just tight muscle that Ludwig sometimes involuntarily flexes during a sudden and/or big sneeze
Having experienced this also, but only on rare occasion with BIG sneezes, it blows my mind that Hank (or every guy into their mid-20s and beyond) hasn't experienced this.
@michaelallen3195 About to turn 30, never had this lol
Not sure if it’s worse for it to be said by Hank or John…
The on-screen corrections are brutal in this one
I'm here for it
21:32 🤣
They’re so funny
32:55
14:57
I would love to see Brennen Lee Mulligan on an episode.
Vic Michaelis is in this season
@facugaich omg really? is there a list somewhere?
@AmbroseTheGaymeridk if there’s a list but Vic was in the trailer I’m p sure
@facugaich Vehicular is always a joy to watch.
We need this to happen omg
Hank is 45 YEARS OLD??? He had cancer and is 45 and still looks like that? Damn this dude is aging well.
how did i think he was mid twenties 😭😭😭
@animangle for real i genuinely thought hes 35 tops
yall should have seen him during crash course 13 yrs ago lol, coulda been a high school student
Bro have you never seen a 45 year old before? That is what they look like.
@dictatortot1703I saw a video from like 10 years ago the other day and he looked like my age (I'm 25). It was crazy to me as someone who didn't follow him back then.
Holy frick ludwig from video games
And he’s not bald!!!!
Redbull Athlete Ludwig from video games?!
Gaymer of the year.
Dubbin
You mean that guy from CdawgVA?
"your forearms look nice" "you think??? what the heck" was amazing
It's from all the donations
i did not expect hank to flirt with ludwig of all people
@Ray-zy7vbsame hahaha
I'm a HUGE forearm girl 😉

Ludwig is such a good guest. It takes a lot of emotional intelligence to purposefully play the wide eyed goof when he’s obviously a smart curious guy. Hank effortlessly counters it so well with genuine excitement to explain and the wittiness to play along. What a fun episode of two good and funny dudes
Ludwig got to where he is because he does that perfectly. He’s flexible but never takes things too seriously. It brings in the people just here for laughs and people who want substance
And the grass was green and the leaves were golden and all was well with the world
Ludwig and hank both know how to roch'nRoll. There's a basic understanding; & it shows. . . .
I agree - I feel like this is such a demonstration of the fact that knowledge and intelligence are two entirely separate concepts
ok no i got the question about car registrations and this POS feels 'powerful' driving without insurance? He's a moron. There's no sugar coating it, massive moron.
_"Your forearms look nice."_ That was so specific you know it was genuine. Very lovely moment.
Guys, there was there was an implication. It's about the donation process
His reaction was so fun though
They look like they have more than 800 calories each!
"Complexly does not endorse using a hair dryer as a form of birth control" cracked me up sooo hard
Simplicity... however...
Hank turning RED after flirting with Ludwig as he takes it in stride is hilarious and possibly my favourite thing about this interview
Ludwig’s superpower is being the perfect conversational foil. He can find a way to match any partner’s energy and never feels out of place.
@MCLooyverse it genuinely takes so much humility and intelligence to do this too. But so many people try to make out like he's an idiot for it.
He is genuinely one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever listened to.
This is the first time I've heard about him but he's absolutely pulling it off (it being 'being a good queation-asker and also funny')
the zany sidekick strikes again
I'm only 5 minutes in, but it is unbelievable how strong Ludwig's "high school junior" energy is.
Edit: Y'all he's playing a bit and I know he's playing a bit and he's really good at playing the bit, can we not be hurtful please?
Yeah man... that's a perfect way to describe it
Especially bringing up The League in the first 5 minutes
At 10 minutes turn it off if you have a 6th grade education.
the HIMBO energy sure is strong
I--yeah you really did just pinpoint that in one shot
I don't know if anyone suggested it, but maybe, maybe, adding a small sound indicator when the notes pop up on the screen? So those of us who are doing other things can look up and not miss the curiosities.
There's a little swish, it's not too distracting, but listen to it and you'll know to parse it out
@tomako3a haven't noticed, so maybe it could be a little bit more noticeable. I'll keep it in mind next month (if I remember), though. Thanks!
Should be the sound of paper flipping!
@pipocaaayou can, you know, watch the video. Instead of making it worse and more intrusive for others
Lmaoo the car accidents stat killed me, Ludwig proudly going «Not a lot!» with the fact pop up saying this was a lifetime’s worth of car accidents for most people 😂
Yep, my mum, who is 67 and has been driving for nearly 50 years, has been in one accident and it was a fender-bender only.
Ludwig: "I'm a great driver!"
Narrator: "He was not, in fact, a great driver."
I wonder if he included his recent fall while riding a motorcycle across Japan :D
@TheVaultDescendant Just take a peak at his hair, this was obviously filmed before the trip
To be fair to him, one of those accidents was him getting hit by a car while he was on his Vespa
Filmed so long ago Ludwig’s finding out the answer to question 2 right now
Filmed so long ago the book club already fizzled out months ago lol
14:52 agent 47 reporting in
@PorridgeWGeorge "Welcome to Paris..."
@GoodMorningJoelfunny knowing that he actually took Hanks suggestion though
What was the result? Can you share it? :)
I love that Lud really hasn’t stopped asking Hank questions since this happened.
21:38 “this is actually significantly worse than the national average”💀💀💀
Ludwig got absolutely roasted here (and by like every other lower-3rd that came in).
"one for every new president"😭
To be fair, he could still be part of that average if he doesn't f-up again.
Right? XD I’ve been driving since I was 16 and I’m 24 now, and I haven’t gotten in a single accident and I’m 5yrs younger than him lmao
But what about the Southern California average? There's traffic almost every day due to multiple accidents.
21:43 LMAO not the subtitles coming in with the silent "this is actually much worse than the average"
Well if it's not a serious crash he can afford to give the other guy a big wad of cash to avoid involving cops and insurance.
I actually laughed out loud and my kid looked at me real weird 😅
This is a great example of two excellent conversationalists being allowed to do their thing and how entertaining it can be. Really good energy, chemistry, and the ability to play off each other. Also really good editing too.
Man Ludwig KILLS in a room full of nerds. Must be all those smash tourneys 😂
Ludwig is a huge nerd cosplaying as a chad. It’s his shtick
@ZacharieAlan he's the nerd's jock. A dork, if you will
@gomjabbar6246 perfect
Ludwig is just very good at conversation. hes just that guy with golden retriever energy that just gets along with everyone.
hank's blush after complimenting lud's forearms is sending me
I also clocked that! Got me kicking my dang feet
timestamp? :)
@NakulOSRS compliment at 13:22
Haha Hank with his crush!
I love bisexual Hank Green
Hank: "I didn't want anyone to take the wrong thing from this"
What Hank means: "Don't listen to Ludwig please don't hairdry your balls"
I've never particularly been a Ludwig fan (not a hater, but just not a viewer), but "I don't know, I think some of it is in the kidney" made me laugh so damn hard
He can be very funny. He released a video recently where he worked at a french bakery for a day (which is his dream job when done with video stuff) and it was super genuine and interesting.
@darlantro his japan series was awesome
"the kidney's gotta have at least a percent" LMAOOOOOO
Felt like a Dear Hank and John bit
I wish this was at least 3 hours. The chemistry was off the charts.
Yard podcast with Hank green it’s like 2 hours of this
@ thank you!!
Absolutely no surprise tbh, both Hank and Ludwig have that kind of easy laid-back charisma that anyone can vibe with.
yeah these dudes are FAST
My favorite thing about Ludwig is really just his method of conversing. He's got immaculate vibes. Smooth but humble, clever but not overly witty, and chill af without being disconnected. What a guy
I really think his original dream of being a late night show host would have panned out well. Intelligence, comedy, wit, and in touch with pretty much everyone. You could bring him home to meet your mom and your friends would also like him, I think that's the key
a willingness to look silly goes a long way when you're that handsome
A whole bunch of Ludwig's alt accounts hanging out right here 😄 (can't disagree though!)
I do like his humility. Most people in his position are horribly immodest
"Complexly does not endorse using a hair dryer as a form of birth control." Thank you for that clarification haha
Imagine going to your doctor like 'Hank Green off of RUclips told me I needed to come see you about my taint pain' 😂
"My taint hurts when I sneeze, but don't worry, Hank Green already checked my taint and said everything's fine, so we're good."
The doctor would have to lock in, if Hank heard they weren't taking it serious they'd be cooked
99% chance the dr has never heard of anyone from this channel :P
Sneezing’s not normal, by the way. (NOT serious, incorrect Green brother for the joke, don’t worry about it)
16:22 Should have mentioned that the Norwood scale is for male pattern baldness. For female pattern, it's actually the Ludwig scale!
Someone needs to make sure Ludwig knows this.
HOLY CRAP
Haha good joke- WAIT IT'S REAL?!
@hankschannelHI HANK
omfg no way, that's awesome haha
I don't understand how there are ANY adult humans out there with zero lower back pain.
Ludwig truly does amaze with his lack of understanding on the most random topics
People are pretty stupid regularly
this episode was SO FUNNY lud plays the part so well, but still occasionally slips out that he's not actually a himbo
"Or is that a populist idea with no legs" sent me
@yxl72 Lud is a himbo, which is usually characterized not as someone who is stupid, but just someone who doesn't think.
42:12 back off buddy
😂
Does this mean we don't get to see Hank on The Yard again? 🥺
😂😂
31:08 Subtitle correction! Ludwig isn't saying "Shin-rock" here, he's saying "Shinra" -- the evil corporation from Final Fantasy 7
Oh yes, as a FFVII fan that feels very important
Also at 38:34 and 38:48 they put "swear word" instead of "slur"
12:34 _modal_ instead of _motile_
Even after 2 years of watching the Yard I still have no clue what he says at 15:50 but I'm certain it's not "Aiden cancer"
@irakylfor sure "Aiden can't do it"
I hate how the notes pop up at the same place as subtitles
"Anybody in the room: does their taint hurt when they sneeze?" lmao can you imagine encountering this question from your boss
This one felt deliberately a lot more comedic not just because of Ludwig, but with the editing too. I really liked it
Ok, out of ALL the books in my wife's 500+ book library, I never expected Ludwig to mention House of Leaves as a first choice.
I feel like the himbo/nerd combo is shockingly underutilized
hank was also on an episode of the yard, ludwigs podcast, and it was also a really good episode
The hair question is SO much funnier in the shadow of Baldwig
hank! question for ur big brain: why do i tend to make less mistakes while doing repetitive tasks when i’m not focusing on the task? today i was crocheting and noticed that i had a very consistent, clean and speedy rhythm only once i started drifting off in thought, but as soon as i focused on the work, i started making more mistakes and lost the rhythm completely. i’ve noticed this with other tasks and skills, and i’ve always wondered why!
This is me walking up and down stairs
Hank’s shrug when asked if the taint pain could be from cancer was the most “if web MD was person” moment of all time. 😂
I'll never fault a cancer survivor for advocating being more transparent with your doctor, early notice could save your life.
He's not saying "you're probably dying seek help immediately" just that "hey, that's a little weird, probably worth mentioning next time you see them even if it's nothing, just in case"
I saw it at being non-committal because earlier he disclaimered "I'm not a doctor".
He definitely didn't want to say "No" because he would rather have Lud walk away from this actually going to see a professional about it
I want him to describe what the pain is like. Burning? Stabbing? Abandonment? I gots to know!
(Not because of any correlation on me but because it's curious AF and the character of the pain is a huge differentiator.)
Eh, if he was being WebMD the person, he would have told Ludwig that his symptoms might be "death" like 5 different times during that conversation.
It’s literally my greatest dream to ask Hank random strange science questions ngl
Season 2!
Ask your question! Do it now! They do look for viewer questions in the comments, and reply in reply videos.
You and me both. But since I am not a YT or other famous person who is funny, talented, or/and interesting, my chances are exactly zero
Omg Beka, an episode with you sounds really fun! I say you shoot your shot, see if you can get in contact with Hank or his team!
you're verified so you have more of a shot than the rest of us!
I would love to see Caleb Hearon, Brittany Broski, Drew Affualo or Trixie Mattel
after my own damn heart 🥹
i like the notice at the bottom saying how the episode was going to be uncensored aside from the intro, i was worried i wasn't gonna hear hank say a bunch of swears
YT checks the first 10 or so seconds of the video for swears and if they show up it tanks the reach. thats why the intro was censored
@minimek1479 i know, I'm just glad the rest of it wasn't
Can't swear in the first minute of the video or the recommendation algorithm deranks the video hard
@Joebobinator i know, I'm just glad the rest of the video wasn't censored
@Joebobinator Is there a list somewhere of YT do's and don'ts?
At 16:53 I think Ludwig is referencing the 2016 Libertarian debate where they were arguing that you shouldn’t need a license to drive, and the line “What’s next, a license for my damn toaster?” got cheers from the in person crowd and ridicule from the internet afterwards
And there is a 99% chance he picked up that reference from NL
@seaseaswhat’s NL?
@Adeseomight be the streamer northern lion? idk though
@abigailr3250 that makes sense!
The candidate was referencing the story, so it went full circle.
NOT BEEN TO A DOCTOR IN 7 YEARS ???? How the F??? What in the American Dystopia ???
In developed countries we see our doctor once every quarter of the year
I'm loving that the first question was answered via a study about the fertility effects of a tucking panty 😭
That's actually so awesome. One, that someone studied thus and two, that AHA sourced it
OHHH I'm trans and I didn't even connect the dots... I wish they would've clarified in the video
22:52 My brain auto filled "because sneezing is never normal" while waiting for the answer 😉
Never sneezer scrouge
Why didn't he say it lolol
Same. Sneezing is not normal. I never sneeze.
I was looking for this comment!
9:26 btw this dude is a millionaire
13:19 it is craaazy to think that lud could have a biological child out there
Ludwig is such a breath of fresh air of young male content creators, his Japan tip to tip series with Michael Reeves was so nice to see a healthy friendship between guys and pushing themselves to learn new things and being respectful to the culture. just guys being dudes what's better than this!!!
Young? He's 30 and short dubbin does not deserve this
he went tip to tip with micheal reeves!?!?! 🤤🤤
always nice to see a healthy friendship between guys where they push themselves to learn new things
also for the hair growing back looking more bald before it all grows, hair has different growth stages which aren’t all at the same time and there’s a dormant stage in there too
another name to add to the hopeful guest list - Adam Savage. i feel like that conversation would be so interesting. learning about like glue chemistry or whatever
++++
Oh yess Adam savage would be awesome
Ooh, that'd be awesome!
I feel like Hank should be asking Adam questions.
But Adam would be a really good guest though!
Now there's a match made in heaven.
Unironically hyped to hear Ludwig tell Hank Green about the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour.
Also I love the fear in Hank’s eyes when he realizes lud is about to guess what year he was born lmao
hearing about it brought a wave of nostalgia
That was /hilarious/
Guest/format suggestion: Ask-off vs Randall Munroe from XKCD
Love that I can pinpoint when this was filmed from Ludwig's hair
11:59 the note explaining the jimmy timmy power hour is killing me bro LMAO
Seeing Hank laughing out loud so joyously can heal wounds. Kudos to Ludwig
I want Past Hank to ask Future Hank questions
On hankschannel hank asks himself questions and then does light research on the topic
Toasted Skin Syndrome, too. I wonder how many people ended up with permanently "toasted" laps from the old laptops.
I love that he approached this as adulting questions more than science questions
When Lud asked for a book rec, I think Hank missed the opportunity to say "mine"
Or "There's this new book by some guy named John Green called 'Everything is Tuberculosis' I hear it's good"
Yeah, like, Hank has at least one easy to read but still very compelling science fiction novel!
What was the book? I forgot to write it down and now I'm scrolling through the comments because Hank's last rec (Space Opera) was the best thing I read that year
@AuntChrystall some desperate glory by emily tesh, 40:50
@TeamDman Thank you!
So appreciate the closed captions moving so I can read the stuff at the bottom
Ya that was stellar
YES!
Exactly, I appreciate the fact they have good captions in general but moving them like that is literally so nice
40:44 That correction slip was just petty XD
14:00 THIS AGED SO POORLY, THE TIMING IS PERFECT
The insert said that he decided to try bald because of this conversation. So it's not ironic.
I think that's cope, Ludwig lost a bet forever ago and said he'd go bald @blairhoughton7918
Since you asked for suggested guests, here's a couple of RUclipsrs who I think would ask super interesting questions:
- Tom Scott
- Sung Won Cho (aka ProZD)
- Niko Pueringer (Corridor Digital - or anyone from their team!)
- Derek Muller (Veritasium)
- Literally anyone who has hosted a Crash Course series
- Sam Reich or Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dropout)
- Henry Reich (MinutePhysics)
- Simone Giertz
- Jenny Nicholson
- Natalie Wynn (Contrapoints)
- Abigail Thorn (PhilosophyTube)
- Patrick H. Willems
- Quintin Smith (Quinn's Quest, formerly Shut Up & Sit Down)
- Matthew Colville
Awesome list, I'll second Quintin as a somewhat niche but awesome guest
And add Joe Barnard and Xyla Foxlin as other suggestions!
How do you not have VSauce on here?
Matpat, Michael Reeves, or anyone from Safety Third would also probably make great guests
+ for Sam or Brennan from dropout and Tom Scott
would add harry hbomberguy to this based list
4:42 The "WHAT DO YOU MEAN?" was so genuine lmao
LOVED this episode. Hank and Ludwig's energies play off each other so perfectly.
Not sure if the subtitles were auto-generated or made by a person, but in the last section it keeps mistaking Hank saying 'slurs' for 'swear words'. Kind of changes the meaning of the sentences.
brittany broski would be SO excited to be on this show i would love to see her
YES 10000%
Second this!!
Hank, why are sedated/unconscious patients given pain killers? Can they feel pain while unconscious?
I think I saw this covered somewhere. The pain causes other effects that can worsen the patient’s condition, and painkillers interrupt that.
14:24 didn’t realize he wasn’t bald until they started talking about his hair LOL
16:29 ironically the scale for measuring female pattern baldness is called the LUDWIG scale 😂 no joke!!
Does Hank like the band A-Ha?
Get Brennan lee mulligan. That dude is just one curious cookie.
The contrast between this episode and last month's convo with Jacob Collier is .... stark.
Jimmy Timmy Power Hour reference?? Hannah Montana 20th anniversary release?? Where am I....
37:39 "I was thinking about t--ts." - Hank Green, 2025
“Turkey cheese roll-up” vs “charcuterie board” had me laughing so hard 😂😂😂
I'm not sure if this has been pointed out before, but in German the exclamation "Aha!" (Also "Ah!") Is what you do when something is explained to you and then you get that click in your brain where it suddenly all makes sense and you now understand this new thing/learnt something. So the abbreviation of the show works perfectly! ❤
Sidenote: there even is a public TV show about science targeted at kids that's been running for like 20 years called "Wissen macht Ah!" Which means "Knowledge makes Ah(a)!" 😊
Its the same in english. That's the point of the name.
I went to the doctor about *my* taint sneeze pain and he said don't worry about it 😭
I feel so unheard too! Us tainters (I'm workshopping a better name) need representation!
@DankMemos14Taint challenged. Differently tainted. Retainted. Trumps.
All in the public domain if anyone asks.
34:41 "(Joe Rogan) does look like a barrel for sure. Like he looks like if you jumped into his head and go down Niagara Falls, you'd live."
I have the taint pain, I have spoken to a doctor about it, it is absolutely harmless
33:58 I like to think Ludwig simply communicated the entire question with a silent facial expression
What could he have said for them to cut out the question
@zane_sadauskis The subtitles just say “Creatine?”!
@AndHavenI’m laughing so hard at the idea of him just saying creatine 😭😂 but they cut it out for some reason
@dobubby4954 😂 Yeah, IDK!
Hank: Why do my loose hairs stick to my shower wall after it dries?
I understand they stick when wet because of things like adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension. But that's all water based. Once the shower and the hair dry out, how does the hair remain attached?
I would guess there's still some water trapped there
My guess is that there are two factors at play here.
The CEO of Blackstone was assassinated in NYC a few months after they talked about Blackstone buying up single family homes to drive up prices.
heard about this and came straight here cause i was like we were just talking about this
I was so unprepared for Hank to say "balls" that many times in the first 4 minutes.
Since you asked for suggested guests I think Maya Higa would be a very interesting guest. She's the Founder and Executive Director of Alveus Sanctuary which is a Non-Profit Wildlife sanctuary that spreads conservation awareness and education using online platforms like twitch and youtube.
Save A Fox would also be pretty cool too see as well.
I would LOVE to see Maya on this!!
What a long-winded way of saying she owns a bird jail.
@Bones0 a bird jail?
@csquared4538 ruclips.net/video/nIT3bXu2-Kw/video.html
15:20 Oh my god I had a coughing fit from laughing at that editor’s note lmao
13:40 was a real aha-moment
That's what the comments section is for. It's replies all the way down.
I think my list would go something like
1: Tom Scott
2: Milo Rossi (miniminuteman)
3: Kyle Hill
4: Abigail Thorn (Philosophytube)
5: Adam Savage (Tested (& Mythbusters))
6: John Walsh (Super Eyepatch Wolf)
7: Jamie Raines (Jammidodger)
8: Harry Brewis (Hbomberguy)
9: Simone Giertz or Mercury Stardust
10: Jacob Geller
11: Nicole Coenen
12: Devin Stone (LegalEagle)
+
This list is GOATED. Milo would be a great guest.
+1 for Jacob Geller
another person to look in to is Ben Hanson of Minnmax. Jacob works with him quite a bit. He is amazing at interviewing people and id just like to see the tables turned on him a little.
oh i would be delighted to hear what questions legaleagle would have for hank
Michael Reeves
Ludwig has the Ferris Bueller gene big time. So effortlessly charming, likeable and putting people at ease.
@julius333333 and Ferris Bueller was a fictional character
I Iike how we can date this video given the condition of Ludwig's luscious locks
Can you tell I hadn't watched to the second question yet? 😅
