I was on Amtrak from St. Paul to Milwaukee around March last year. I love that they had window facing seats. I just sat on one of those seats and enjoy the view all the way. Very very beautiful!
I rode the Agawa Canyon Tour Train in the 1970s. It is considered one of the most scenic trains in Canada, It is a round-trip excursion train that starts and ends in Sault Ste. Marie ON. It used to be part of a train that traveled from the Soo to Hearst ON. Unfortunately, that train has been discontinued. The tour train used to be available every day of the year. It is now limited to the months of September and October.
Here is how I would have ranked them. 1. California Zephyr 2. Empire Builder 3. Coast Starlight 4. VIA Rail Connection 5. Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic *Honorable Mention Southwest Chief I have not ridden on the last two, hence their rankings, but just seeing them makes me want to go. The Southwest Chief is a beautiful trip. When I went, they had a Native American tribal leader from Albuquerque to Flagstaff give a tour of the landscape. Thanks for the video.
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 Really enjoy all your videos, especially trains and ships. I’m always excited to get a notification that there is a new one. And love those bloopers!
I have ridden all except the Alaskan train, and I completely agree with you. Riding the train is the opportunity of a lifetime---if you are not dependant on arriving on time!!
I have taken the California Zephyr from Denver to Salt Lake City in three seasons and has wonderful bites every time. I just need to take the trip in the winter at some point.
I'd be curious to see you make a similar video about North American trains that are just meant to be scenic trains, like Durango & Silverton, Cumbres & Toltec, and El Chepe.
Great video as always, Jeb! I did the Coast Starlight all the way from Los Angeles to Seattle a number of years ago and greatly enjoyed it. The Empire Builder and California Zephyr are also on my bucket list.
We took the Zephyr back in 2005. Enjoyed the room/ensuite, meals, views!! Absolutely unforgettable. Thank you for your videos - so informative and beautiful.
Hey Jeb, We did the Rockies to Red Rocks Trip a couple of years ago and it was fabulous! We ended up staying in Moab overnight and then flying back to Denver for a night before we finally made our way back to The Triad. Thanks for all that you both do. Loving your videos!!
I just finished a 10 day 7 train journey including 3 of the top 5! The Zephyr, Coast Starlight, and the Empire Builder. Granted, I’ll have to do the southern leg of the Starlight for it to fully count!
I'd love to see your take on some of VIA's shorter rural trains -- Sudbury-White River, Winnipeg-Churchill, and Jasper-Prince Rupert. Loads of scenery plus cool bits of railroading out there.
I've watched them all before and now I'm going back to watch them all again. I love your train trips. I live in Tasmania , Australia and we don't have passenger trains here, so I rely on you guys for the best advice for my next US trip. Thanks for another great video.........
i was born and raised in VA and i have never been anywhere in my life but to NY and SC and that's to help a friend out for a few days so i haven't seen much of anything 😔 however, Jeb and Suzanne, on that note it feels like i have when i view the channel. your videos make me really happy and encouraged. i also learn so much from here. i love you guys and am always keen on watching your videos! you guys are funny and fun, well meaning, kind, humble people who are full of passion for train, plane and boat travel. you and her seem genuinely happy to be around each other and to go to all places together and of course why wouldn't you guys be happy together, both of you are awesome people. thanks for sharing it all with us and i always wish you safe travels. see you in the skies, on the rails or the seas lol
What an awesome list Jeb!! Sadly I've been on none of them, but I've "driven" the California Coast Starlight and California Zephyr routes. LOL I hope to change that soon....and experience them.
We ride the trains in the UK as much as we can (ferries and buses too) when on holiday. In our area of Canada, trains are sporadic and expensive. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure.
15 years ago, I took an Amtrak train from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon. It took four days. Five hour layover in Boston and a four hour layover in Chicago plus some 15 plus minute stops here and there. It was during the first week of spring and the landscape was so beautiful and outstanding. The food was decent also.
I used to hop up from Portland to Seatle for a Baseball game (the baseball/ soccer/ football fields are all within walking distance from the station... getting home may be a problem though for night games so planning is a good thing) on the AmTrack, LOVED it! but on at least one ocassion a seat in my cabin was pee'd on and stunk to high heaven. ofc only time you need to be there is when boarding, but still that was the last time unfortunately. crossing one metal bridge there was a row boat with a grandpa and grandkid fishing below us, it was like a scene from a movie- I'll never forget that sight!
The one hand, the scenery looks beautiful. On the other hand, there are so many places that I would want to stop and spend time enjoy that place before I went on.
These are all on my Bucket List. We got to ride on Alaska RR from Fairbanks to Anchorage as a precruise trip. It was only 8 hours but the scenery was fantastic. Another short 10 hour trip that I would recommend is Amtrak Adirondak btw Montreal and NYC, The Hudson Rvr and Lake Champlain views were beautiful.
We rode the The Coast Starlight from Santa Barbara just to Portland, and it was wonderful.... except for we had a room with the hardest beds! Might as well have slept on the floor. The views were magnificent of course and we literally camped out in the observation car. On some scenic trains you can only stay for about 2 hours to let others have seats, but apparently not as many were interested on our trip as there were always empties and we were never asked to move.
I have ridden on the Empire Builder and the California Zephyr too! My favorite is the Empire Builder and I even stopped and stayed overnight at Glacier National Park for a couple days too. I think you and Suzanne should experience historic steam train rides and there is a lot in the U.S. The most well known railroads in America are the Durango & Silverton in Colorado, Strasburg Railroad & East Broad Top Railroad in Pennsylvania, Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia, and so much more!
Pro tip, go west on California Zephyr, especially in the summer. Trains slow down when it's hot, and you might miss the Rockies with a delay. West bound, the train gets to Denver in the morning, meaning you'll get the full Rockies. You might miss the Sierra, but that's only if it's really late. However, sunrise on salt flat is really pretty, and sunset in Reno is beautiful.
Can’t wait to try some of these! I’d also suggest Amtrak Cascades. It’s similar to the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic in being a non-sleeper train. The Vancouver-Seattle portion is my favorite.
I've taken a few of these-- Seattle to Vancouver, the Alaskan Seward to Anchorage- and The Zephyr in September 2023-- what a trip! Better than I even anticipated-- and arrived a hour early! Considering either the Empire or Canada Via Rail next. Or Coastal??? Too many choices.
Love this! I've done the Cali Zeph but only up to Denver, really want to do the Coastal Starlight. A wonderful truly beautiful day trip train is the Durango Silverton, the views were so stunning that my teenagers put their phones down, which is the highest compliment.
Just took a very short train loop from Skagway through White Pass circling just past the Canadian border. An amazing taste of Alaskan beauty-- stunning day trip if you get the chance!
We chose the White Pass railway as an excursion on our recent Alaska cruise and loved it! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/XcyWKAyd03g/видео.htmlsi=4__ZvmLZf2-L0bLA
Another great ride-along! Thanks for sharing. And a little highlight at 1:45 ... on the right side of the screen are tap-changing voltage regulators, fairly common in more remote areas. I used to design their control systems, so nice they made your highlights!! (HA!) [Greetings from Tucson]
They are ALL INCREDIBLE Jeb! Also this is Caleb I just made a second channel (this one) for train and other ground transport travels like your awesome experiences these all looked fabulous! Cheers 🥂 my friend! -Caleb’s Adventures 😊
My wife and I took the Zephyr going westbound last month. While we enjoyed the scenery, the extremely rough ride through Nebraska kept us from getting any sleep, really souring our trip.
The upgrade to Gold Star Class on the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic route is worth every penny! But on the way back from Seward make sure to be at the back of the train for great pictures of the consist in the S Bend.
With the Zephyr if you want to save yourself 1 night on the train and the endless expanse of corn fields that is Chicago to Denver you can board it in Denver and take it west, or take it east and get off in Denver. If you're flying to/from Denver to catch the CA Zephyr you don't even need to rent a car or book an uber, RTD has train service all the way from Denver Intl to Union Station.
Great video, you always do a great job. Especially, with your narration! As a video idea, you should do the best North American 🇺🇸🇨🇦business class trains such as the Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, Brightline in Florida, VIA Rail Toronto/ Montréal Corridor, and Capitol Corridor, Calif. I would be really interested hearing your thoughts about the experience.
I love all of your train trip videos. If you're gonna do another long distance Amtrak Train trip, could you try the Lake Shore Limited? That's my favorite Eastern Long-distance Amtrak Train.
The Delta Thank You jet at the end...I was there when that got rolled out in 2020! Has the names of all the employees inside the letters.. (note: I am not a Delta employee)
I really dident think he could make a better train videos the his planes and I will always like the planes more but his trains just get better EVERYTIME🎉!!!
On the Empire Builder and Borealis, the area between the La Crosse, WI and Red Wing, MN stations is the heart of the Driftless, which is an absolutely beautiful area. Unfortunately, you only really get to see it going east on the Empire Builder as the westbound goes through there when it's dark.
My favorite of your trips are those by train. If you truly want to see a country; this is the way.
For sure
@@CAYork0827 I love all the videos but train trips are what travel is all about.
I totally agree. I am so horrified of heights that I’ll never get onto another plane again.
For my money, it doesn’t get any better than Jebb and Suzanne
@@Caulstan0878 Thats for sure. They have by FAR the BEST and most LEGENDARY travel channel here on RUclips.
Saturday morning
New Jeb Brooks video
My weekend is complete
And it didn’t even start yet!
Took the Zephyr two weeks ago in a bedroom. Epic. Bucket list item checked.
I was on Amtrak from St. Paul to Milwaukee around March last year. I love that they had window facing seats. I just sat on one of those seats and enjoy the view all the way. Very very beautiful!
We just going to ignore the car upside down on the riverbank?😂
I rode the Agawa Canyon Tour Train in the 1970s. It is considered one of the most scenic trains in Canada, It is a round-trip excursion train that starts and ends in Sault Ste. Marie ON. It used to be part of a train that traveled from the Soo to Hearst ON. Unfortunately, that train has been discontinued. The tour train used to be available every day of the year. It is now limited to the months of September and October.
Empire builder is the best and I’ve taken every long distance train west of Chicago.
Here is how I would have ranked them.
1. California Zephyr
2. Empire Builder
3. Coast Starlight
4. VIA Rail Connection
5. Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic
*Honorable Mention
Southwest Chief
I have not ridden on the last two, hence their rankings, but just seeing them makes me want to go. The Southwest Chief is a beautiful trip. When I went, they had a Native American tribal leader from Albuquerque to Flagstaff give a tour of the landscape. Thanks for the video.
Great ranking, the Chief definitely is in our Top 10!
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 Really enjoy all your videos, especially trains and ships. I’m always excited to get a notification that there is a new one. And love those bloopers!
Thanks for watching to the end, more to come!
Wonderful video. Makes so much fun to go by train.
I'd like to mention the cardinal, which has the best views east of the Mississippi
Definitely agree with that one, love the Cardinal
I'd be curious to see you make a similar video about North American trains that are just meant to be scenic trains, like Durango & Silverton, Cumbres & Toltec, and El Chepe.
Hi Jeb, your train adventures look so exciting. I love the scenery in all the trains you and Susan went on
Great video as always, Jeb! I did the Coast Starlight all the way from Los Angeles to Seattle a number of years ago and greatly enjoyed it. The Empire Builder and California Zephyr are also on my bucket list.
Haven’t been on any of the trains, but I’d love to do all of them

For sure Winnipeg - Churchill is high on the list. Hoping that real dining returns to that route soon…
Thanks Jeb. Will add the Zephyr to my bucket list thanks to this review.
Zephyr is amazing! Thanks for watching!

I love riding the builder. 🚂
I'm cruising to Alaska next year and will be using your videos as a guideline for how to get the most out of it.
Awesome, hope you have a wonderful trip!
I don't know why, maybe algorithm changes, but you aren't showing up in my suggestions anymore and I have watched virtually all of your videos.
The Canadian VIA train from Jasper to Prince Rupert is a winner and should be in the top five.
We ride the trains in the UK as much as we can (ferries and buses too) when on holiday. In our area of Canada, trains are sporadic and expensive. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure.
Absolutely love your train videos! Nothing beats the views from the observation car or open air car.

That engine at the very end looks very familiar. It's the 6133 Southern Railways at Spencer. :)

Americans should do more train vacations. Its like a staycation. Just admiring the scenery and relaxing.
The one hand, the scenery looks beautiful. On the other hand, there are so many places that I would want to stop and spend time enjoy that place before I went on.
Jeb has inspired me to post the scenic views from my rides on my rides through the canyon s of Southern Oregon on my R1
Awesome. Picturesque and breathtaking. Thank-you.
I did the California Zephyr from Emeryville to Chicago in 2013. In Coach, though next time I will do a roomette for sure.

I’ve been on the Coast Starlight three times and loved it! The Empire Builder and California Zephyr are on my bucket list.
Taking the VIA from Jasper to Prince Rupert is gorgeous as well!
Woo Hoo! We just booked on the California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville next April. I have not been on a train in 35 years, we are so excited.

The Canadian is totally amazing, agree!

oh those pre-winter trips seem to be the most awesome! Thank you for sharing - I hope to see these one day!
I did the Alaskan railroad Anchorage to Seward Gold Star class and it was phenomenal!

I really enjoy travelling by train, would love to do a sleeper train say over a couple of days, love these train videos Jeb, keep 'em coming x
Thanks for sharing these fantastic train journeys! Trains are such a wonderful way to see the world, and these recommendations are spot on. 🚂
Glad you agree! It was tough to rank!
Your insights are so helpful for anyone looking to experience these incredible views by train. Can’t wait to plan my trip! 🚂🌄
You left El Chepe off the list!!!!😮
I’ve taken the Zephyr, only from Emeryville to Reno, and it was fabulous!
Have you ever considered to go to the chepe train in Mexico ? It’s a nice route too
Just rode the Borealis last summer. St. Paul to Milwaukee. Some delays but a fun ride.

Great advice, Denver west is really the best part if you’re short on time!
Try the Chepe from Chihuahua to Los Mochis in Mexico.
A great train trip is between Skagway Alaska and Bennett BC across the White Pass.
Amtrak's California Zephyr from Emeryville, California to Denver Colorado in the winter time from January- February is the best.
Great video, you always do a great job. Especially, with your narration!

Hello, I wish to try all of them... one day...
Wow, surprised to see no Pacific Surfliner! Great list though.
Ah the Surfliner! Too many to choose from!
El Chepe in Mexico for incredible views of Copper Canyon.
Hey, Jeb. Recently, Amtrak first opens its newest line from Chicago to Miami named "Floridian".
🚅 Amtrak's California Zephyr thru the Colorado Rockies!!! 😎

have been on all but the one in alaska, all are amazing
You should check out the Pikes Peak Cog Railway! I'm biased since I worked there years ago, but everyday had stunning scenery.
You need to try the durango & Silverton
I put my vote in for the Rocky Mountaineer - Vancouver to Banff but then I'm a little bias for I have done that trip.
