The definition of that classic sound that the original lineup of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver (which included Lou Reid and Terry Baucom) invented and then was carried on by Lou and IIIrd Tyme Out in their early days. Love it.
@Parker Moore No offense meant, but they didn't invent it. It was in their blood!!!! Doyle was the more seasoned musician at the time & knew how to get the best out of them. That's why nearly every band that has formed as a spin off from Doyle has had it's own unique qualities in sound. Terry Baucom is most of the reason for the early IIIrd Tyme Out/Lou Reid & Carolina sound. His banjo playing drives so hard that it throws up a dirt cloud behind it. Listen to the 2 Boone Creek albums & then listen to the first 5 cuts on A School of Bluegrass. Note the similarities in sound. The only difference was that DL&Q had two tenors & Boone Creek had one.
reno is all thats left of red smiley & Don reno, there is some classic very very Good skits of the early show scattered around... back then it really was LIVE TV. Ronnie was obviously the youngest, RONNIE & MARTY "Stewart" are about all thats left of that era. living... most people don't know when there listening to all those Old merle haggard songs, especially the hits, the guitar work was almost always Ronnie Reno!
I can not thanks u enought for re-uploading this! I learned how to play banjo to ur complimation of like 45mins on youtube years and years back had Lonesome river band, IIIrd type out, lou reid, etc. and i learned how to play! thanks!
I was part of a 5 person Bg jam session (bass) and the mando player did this tune. Not this well tho. He was an addition to the band. Original members were the banjo player and lead singer and myself. I'll never forget Reids singing tenor in Doyles anniversary show singing "On the sea of life"
these guys definitely Knew how to do this style of bluegrass, other than marty Raybon i never saw such a excellent bunch a flat pickers.. they simply do it right i had all these on a dvr and the electricity went out for 13 days and i lost them....
