There's that now very famous story about the recording of this prticular track. Freddie was incredibly frail by this point, he knew he didn't have much time left, and even though he'd written this indredibly powerful, epic swansong for Freddie, Brian May was worried that his friend just wouldn't have the strength left to really give it his all. Freddie simply replied: "I'll fucking do it, darling!" downed his vodka and went into the recording booth, belting this whole thing out in one take. That was our Frediie Mercury, a genuine legend right to the end.

it wasn't one take the whole song

    • @bluebell3720
      @bluebell3720 10 дней назад +2

      Brian predominantly composed it
completed and polished it so deserves credit for that
the theme and lyrics they wrote together
Brian later adding wings of a butterfly
which I think is a lovely line

    • @bluebell3720
      @bluebell3720 10 дней назад +2

one of their hardest songs to sing
Brian was only able to do it in falsetto
difficult to sing words clearly without cracking in high register in chest voice

This isn't the song that he propped himself up for and fuelled himself with drink and 'ahem' - It was actually: "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" - Seeing as this song had stadium versions and the very energetic video.... The very last song he tried to record, but couldn’t finish, was: "Mother Love" (which I just learnt, I thought it was actually “These Are The Days..” being his last).

Freddie was just months away from his death, but he was able to record the vocals for this song in just ONE TAKE. May he rest in peace

That's partially true. This song was recorded in 1990, while he ofc wasn't well, he was a little further from the end than you think. I think you are referring to Mother Love, which was the last ever song he recorded. Which was believed to be recorded somewhere in May of 1991. Brian says he did The Show Must Go On in one take.

Freddie was only months away from death when he recorded this. Sadly, no video was ever made and he was never able to hear the finished product. ONE OF QUEEN'S BEST SONGS. This video is simply a compilation of all other videos and outtakes as a tribute to him and the band.
He is still missed...there was never a band frontman as great as Freddie. RIP Mr. Mercury. 🙏❤️

If you only knew what Freddie Mercury went through physically in order to deliver this "swan song" performance. It's chilling to know what Freddie was battling and gave his fans one last epic vocal performance IN ONE COMPLETE TAKE! I love this song for those reasons.
Also, this song always brings tears to my eyes and there will never be another Freddie Mercury! Thank you for getting around to this one!

Its sad many times for me hearing these songs and seeing the old photos and videos. I still tear up and cry fpr Freddie and Im a straight guy who just adored them and Freddie. Im sitting here typing in tears now. But Freddie wouldn't want us to be sad. He wanted us to be happy and have a smile on our faces. To love life. He lived his to the fullest until he couldn't. He was really something special. And we miss him so much because he was such a happy bright light in a world that can be dark at times. I still remember where me and my wife were when we heard on the car radio that Freddie had died. And now she is gone too. So it all hurts. Life hurts.
Have you watched the Queen video for No One But You? Its a very sad song he and Roger did in remembrance of Freddie. Its very sad to listen to.

This might sound weird, but it occurred to me just now that life has largely drained me of the ability to allow myself to feel much emotion. But watching someone like Aileen express so much emotion (both on her face and with her words) while watching and listening to this song reminds me that, somewhere deep inside me, there still dwells the same capacity to feel. So thank you for that, you beautiful spirit.

The last music video Freddie Mercury recorded was for the song "These Are the Days of Our Lives". The music video, according to Wikipedia, was recorded in May of 1991, and Freddy passed away that November.

Here's my suggestion, and one of my favorite Queen songs, "Save Me," the last song on The Game album. The album was released on June 30th, 1980, and I saw them 3 months later at Madison Square Garden in September 1980. The song was written by Brian, the live version contains a piano introduction by Brian that's not on the record. I think you'll enjoy it.
My sister and I were talking today, while watching Queen in Montreal 1981, and Journey Live in Houston 1981, that we were lucky to have seen some of the best vocalists from the seventies and eighties live. Heart in '77, Styx in '78 & '83, Queen in '80 & '82, and Journey in '82 & '83.

After Freddie Passed away there was a Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert held at Wembley Stadium in April 1992 and George Michael sang as Lead Singer with Queen the song SOMEBODY TO LOVE and this was such a powerful Tribute to Freddie and George Michael absolutely nailed one of Freddies best songs!!! GREAT reaction Aileen!! Freddie (RIP) was the ultimate showman! Don't hold back the tears...I can't! Every time I hear this song, my eyes get misty - it's just that powerful! Further impact knowing he slayed these vocals being as ill as he was - he lived this song...to the very end - and they went out on top with it!
As much as this track makes me emotional, it stands as an epic statement of what Queen was all about - and that makes me happy (as tears roll down my face).
    Cheers from Canada, eh!

  • @Kuesel68

Their swan song - and probably the best any band did. Freddie was already too sick to do another video after These Are the Days of Our Lives which was filmed in b/w and blurred as he was already very weak and didn't want to show his disease, so this video was a kind of "best of Queen videos of the previous years". The song was written by Brian. In his last months Freddie said to the other members of the band: write me anything and I give my best to sing it. Innuende then became their best album since The Game. With some of the leftover songs (and a couple older ones by Freddie from his solo album) they later put Made in Heaven together.

I have been lucky to have seen Queen since their first show in Boston to the last with Freddie. There were time they would play here and a venue with in driving distance so I saw them twice with in 2 or 3 days of their shows here. They wee great and my first concert so I will always love the band. I saw them after Freddie passed but it just wasn't the same. Don't get me wrong the other guys were great musicians but IMO no one could ever be the front man and do the band justice. I do not think they will ever fade from music in the next 1000 years they were so iconic. Not too long ago I watched a channel called kids react and most kids knew Queen some even got excited and said they were one of the greatest!

Whenever I hear Freddy and songs like this, I always think back of my childhood. I was raised in a very conservative christian way, and wasn't really allowed to listen to rock music. But I got my hands on the Innuendo single, and whenever my parents were gone, I'd play it really loud and went to a different world, floating on his vocals and Brian May's awesome guitar leads. I'll always have those sweet memories. Thanks for reacting, Aileen!

This little pop up reminded me that it's been thirty three years since we lost this splendid man.. so hard to imagine it's been that long. I grew up with Queen from age 4 with the astounding Bohemian Rhapsody and unfalteringly followed their career through the years.. an incredible and undeniable legacy. I miss him deeply and always wonder what we lost out on in those thirty three years. I really enjoy your reactions with Queen because I can almost feel a kindred enthusiasm.

  • @fellforit

I was always a low key fan of Queen, I liked so many of their tracks and heard them everywhere for so many years. Then Freddy died and it all came to an end. It wasn't until some years later, hearing replays of Queen songs, that I realised they provided the soundtrack for my early life. From lying in bed when I was sick with chicken pox as a child, listening to Killer Queen, rushing home from visiting my comatose girlfriend in hospital to watch the Live Aid show, and so many, many points in between, every Queen song brings back a memory of a period in my life, a feeling or emotion or memory of an event. If anybody ever found my tediously normal first 25 years of life worth making a film biography of, the soundtrack would all be Queen songs.

I believe this was the last song recorded. Brian didn’t think Freddie was gonna be able to do it because he could barely even hold himself up the time and the song is so powerfully intense. It's heartbreaking for me to watch these later videos. Even when Freddie was so ill he could barely stand, he'd come to the studio and sit in the control room to record. When Brian asked him one day if he thought he could do any more, Freddie said, "I'll f***ing do it, darling!" He leaned agains the mixing desk, took a couple shots of vodka, and absolutely nailed the take.

Hi Aileen. Thank you for another brilliant reaction to Queen. That concert where we're flying over the crowd, that was Freddie's last show at Knebworth Park. Roger Taylor said that the stage was so wide you needed a golf cart to go from one side to the other. With that in mind, now look at the size of the audience. When it was suggested they do Knebworth, Freddie said "Will we fill it?" We who were there answered that question for him. Miss you Freddie 💔

Freddie was an entertainer that can never be matched even now. He loved his fans and the music he shared.
This song made my eyes leak a little ...

Who wants to live forever is one of their most iconic songs, after Bohemian Rhapsody and I Want to Break Free imo.

If I may make a suggestion, the song that I love most when it comes to Queen is "Who Wants To Live Forever" from the Highlander soundtrack. That song devastates me every damn time. I love your reactions.

There will not be another Freddie Mercury or Queen his vocals in this song are amazing what a big loss for music the day he passed you have to watch the show at the bowl his stage presence was incredible Queen has always been one of my favorite bands along with Led Zeppelin the thing that amazes me the most is when Freddie found out he had Aids he didn't stop working up until the time he passed away

Such an emotional song knowing what he was going through. They say one in a Million. Freddie was one in a Billion. My 3 people I would invite to dinner are Dave Grohl, Slash and Chris Cornell but I may have to include Freddie and maybe Kurt Cobain too. You are so positive and beautiful. Paasion in music is a wonderful thing to have.

Queen at their Majestic best. Freddie hitting the notes, fighting through the pain as well as delivering the most poignant lyrics. Queen - THE Greatest Band EVER.❤️

You should react to Mother Love, which was the last song Freddie recorded. Freddie was so weak, but told Brian to keep writing him lines to record, with hopes that they'd finish producing it after his death. He got through 2 verses and said he was too tired to continue, and that he'd come back to finish it later. He never did, it ended up being he and Brian's last time in the studio together. Brian came back to sing the final verse.
Another one I would recommend is No One But You. It was Queen's last song, sang by Brian and Roger as a tribute to Freddie.

Great tune to go out on, they had it until the very end. To see a you Freddie, ripping it up with the band in heavy duty mode, watch the video for Liar, live in 1974. Killer performance, their first 3 albums are sadly ignored by many reactors but they did much of their most killer Rocking tunes when establishing themselves as a new great band with a unique style and magnificent musicians. More Queen! Luv You Aileen! Its OK to cry to this one, Enjoy.

2Cellos does an excellent "cover", and there is a mash-up with 2Cellos music and Freddy Mercury's vocals.
The 2Cellos video is a apocalypse trip and when I really felt it in my soul that the "Show Must Go On"
