New 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS - Greatest Hybrid Performance Sports Car

Porsche has fundamentally upgraded the iconic 911 sports car. The new 911 Carrera GTS is the first street-legal 911 equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid. The 911 Carrera will also be available immediately upon the launch of the new model.
It is based on a new six-cylinder boxer engine with a volume of 3.6 liters, which is made on the basis of the existing three-liter engine by increasing the cylinder diameter (from 91 to 97 mm) and piston stroke (from 76.4 to 81 mm). Instead of two turbochargers, one is installed, but with an electric drive. On road cars, Mercedes-Benz already uses this scheme with all its might: a compact electric motor with a power of 11 kW is installed on the shaft between the turbine and compressor wheels. It comes into operation immediately at the command of the electronics, accelerating the compressor wheel even before the flow of exhaust gases spins the turbine. And when the gas is released, the engine switches to generator mode to recharge the battery. The output of the gasoline engine is 485 hp. and 570 Nm.
In addition, the hybrid has a full-fledged traction electric motor (54 hp, 150 Nm), which is built into an eight-speed PDK robotic gearbox. In order to place all the related elements (inverters, control units, etc.) in the engine compartment of the 911, engineers had to abandon the belt drive of the air conditioning compressor, replacing it with a compact electric motor. As a result, the total power of the power plant is 541 hp. and 610 Nm. The previous purely petrol version of the GTS, we recall, had 480 hp. and 570 Nm.
A traction battery with a capacity of only 1.9 kWh is installed in the front trunk to optimize weight distribution. It has an operating voltage of 400 volts, and is comparable in size and weight to a conventional car battery. At the same time, the hybrid also retains a 12-volt battery, but not a lead-acid one, but a compact lithium-ion one: it is located under the shelf near the rear window. As a result, the developers claim that the hybrid Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is only 50 kg heavier than its predecessor.
Hybrids are offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. You can choose a coupe, convertible or Targa (the latter version only comes with all-wheel drive). Standard equipment includes a fully steerable chassis, PASM adaptive suspension and PDCC active anti-roll bars, the latter of which are part of the hybrid system's 400-volt electrical system. The standard tires are 245/35 ZR 20 on the front axle and 315/30 ZR 21 on the rear. The rear-wheel drive GTS coupe can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.0 s versus 3.4 s for the same previous model, and this is only 0.2 s more than the Turbo version (580 hp, 750 Nm ). Maximum speed is 312 km/h.
