I am trying to figure out who is the messiah ben David and who is the messiah ben Joseph. It comes out that how many rabbis so many messiahs and ideologies. Along the way, I have encountered over a thousand such figures, from Simon Bar Kochba to Mendel Schneerson. I would greatly appreciate a clear and accessible explanation on this matter. How can there be so many ideologies and interpretations?
