Roger use flat beer in containers for slugs etc. I tried it last year and smashed the slugs. My first night I got 17 slugs. This year I only got a couple of slugs because I believe I did such a good job on them last year there was none left. My vege patch is on/in the ground and I recently got a fiberglass tank that was used as a wicking bed and I'm going to use it for that, so this clip is a bonus
Spinach? I've always known it as Silverbeet, horses for courses. Just a word on Celery, when blended with green apples, like Granny Smith, is a fantastic healing aid for Gout, especially when nothing else works. Love your shows, cheers Pat. Did I see a fish smoker over by the house?
Roger ditch the snail pellets and use flat beer. I buried a few containers around my vege patch which is on ground level and I absolutely smashed snails, slugs etc. This year I put some out, but because I wiped out so many last year this year I only got a couple. The first time I used beer the next day I had 17 slugs in the container, give it a go you won't be disappointed, it's a real winner
They can smell the beer from 100 yards away so not recommended in a small suburban garden unless you want a full blown invasion, can see how it'd be useful on an acreage though.
I used the beer method and placed 8 containers around my strawberries,only killed 1 slug in 1 month time : ( and slugs are still having a field day with my strawberries. winterizing them now since it goes below 0 here in pa and hoping I can find a solution because beer isn't working for me and wish it did. beer works for some but not all and I happen to be one that it isn't working. tried salt and that's not working either, so I will have to try the pellets next year. slugs are only leaving me 2-3 strawberries a week and i'm not too thrilled . slugs are happy and having a party every night while I am here seeing fruit I worked for and paid $$$$ go down the drain. I really do wish the beer method worked for me : (
Fishing AND gardening! 🎶Those are just some of my favourite things🎶 I'm no expert at either but I really enjoy walking out the front and quickly grabbing some herbs or leafies to add to a nice catch or any other meal. Hopefully the anglers watching who don't do gardens will get some inspiration here.
Right Roger, great garden! Well done so far! Radishes are easy, grow quick and nice. I loved growing 🌽 and sunflowers 🌻, alternating the rows of them, with pumpkin, squash etc in-between to try shade the ground. I used to dry orange peels etc and grind them with a hand grinder over until into a fine powder, my fruit fertilizer! I put used teabags into soil, helps with moisture. I can get seaweed, do you wash saltwater and sand off it before using !?! I watch some USA homestead videos, they are amazing with their vegetable gardens! I admire them for what they achieve in short summer seasons! 🎣 I love experimenting with baits for fish!.... Try some vegetable flavors in your baits,!..., 🎣
Hi roger, curling leaves generally mean that you’ve got sap sucking bugs on the new growth, inspect under the curled leaves and see if you have aphids or scale like bugs- these are easily treated with white oil, I generally spray my passion fruit every growing season just as the new growth starts,
Great video Roger. I like the idea of wicking beds. I should convert my raised garden beds to that system. The new garden bed you have isn’t a wicking system. Is that something you’re just trying out? Cheers
Instead of pellets you can use old pots and cut the bottom out and put the around the stems of your plants. Garden is looking great, them beds are starting to fill out nicely. We have a really raised bed probably a little less wide but twice as long. Main tip I can give is adding heaps of compost and over planting so the soil becomes a habitat quicker. Them potatoes are going to take over that raised bed too btw 😅 which is good but be careful our beds still got sweet potatoes and tumeric popping out everywhere from years ago.
Your basically right about the vine too, it's trying to focus energy on fruiting, that's what my lemons are doing and brand atm. Add some carpfeed or something similar and it'll be fine.
Another good video Roger thanks. Are the new beds along the northern fence? Apart from the soil acidity levels the plants may be continuously in the shade of the fence. Just a lateral thought. Keep it up. Any reason why the new beds aren't wicking too?
Hi Zubin. That particular area gets full sun in summer but partial sun in winter. At the time of planting there was plenty of sunlight. I have eight wicking beds that work well but I am still happy with a traditional raised garden bed.
ditch the pellets and go organic Rog. Make your self some home made seaweed and fish tonic and start spraying. soil worms are also a great natural insect repellent or there wee is so you can increase healthy biota with a super spray and also hand remove snails at night. Encouraging native birds and lizards into your garden is always helpful with snails and slugs.
Thanks for the tips! We have started gathering seaweed castings that wash up on the beaches here when we take our dogs for a walk and then letting it soak in water for a few weeks. It smells really gross but that plants do love it! Will look into soil worms too - never heard of that before. Thanks again, appreciate it!
Hi Roger - as you don’t have wicking towers as such how does the water get transferred from amongst the pebbles through the echo cloth into the soil, especially when the water level drops a few inches? 2nd question: as the water resides amongst the pebbles is the coiled drainage piping at the bottom not superfluous? I would prune the ends of the vine, so it sends the engery to the fruit and not the vine.

Chook manure is alkaline., just saying. Phospric acid can lower the pH, also aluminium sulfate and as you said Sulphur but it takes alot longer..
