This one is an emotional rollercoaster...
A few more questionable losses, and a few WINS!
But the big story of the week...
    is Goat.
    She has been going downhill.
And I prayed she would lamb soon so I could assess and make some hard decisions.
    She did all of that.
    And we finally said goodbye.
I had hoped hers would be my last this week, but unfortunately I had a few more.
I'm sorry this has been such a discouraging start to lambing.
It's hard to share this stuff, and harder to re-live these days while editing.
Stick with me tho... I promise it will get better... at least I hope!

SORRY GUYS!! I was so tired uploading this morning, I accidentally scheduled for tomorrow at noon instead of today!!🤦‍♀️ For my viewers... I'm so sorry this lambing has started off so rough. It is so hard reliving these days as I edit these videos, so I realize it must be equally as hard to watch. THANK YOU for remaining so patient as we navigate through this stretch of bad luck... Love you all.

Ah Sandi... I got choked up when I saw how thin Goat was and knowing how loving and how much of a hands-on mama she was, I didn't think she was destined to be here much longer no matter how much we all wanted her to make a miraculous recovery
I was so hopeful for G2 - she was beautiful and the way your face lit up, I wished she could have made it. I cannot imagine how hard this is. As much as you are a shepherdess and this is your business, you love so strongly and care about your woolies so much, it's clear you are not (AT ALL) just a business owner. You are a champion caretaker. You are so proactive in trying to save your woolies from any harm, illness, and do your absolute best by them.
I hope this lambing starts to turn around, so we can see the love shining in your eyes and that beautiful big smile!
If you need time, please take it. These past 18 months have been absolutely brutal in so many ways and we want you as happy, healthy, and in a good place mentally more than anything else. I promise you - we will be here when you get back. Please do what is best for you.
Much Love for you, Karissa, Mark, Jess, Jack, etc. from across the great lake.

Sandi….. I have been breeding Saddlebred horses and Collies for almost 50 years and I am really happy to see that you are going to be using Tincture of Iodine on the lambs. I have used it on the umbilical cords of both foals and puppies forever and have never had a problem. Keep the faith this lambing will get better. You have years of excellent lambing under your belt. Prayers and love, Linda who enjoys your videos so much!

We always dipped kids at the dairy goat farm...horse people I've known do the same. When I fostered feral kitten litters they all got dipped as well! It's a little thing but it keeps infection at bay!

Sandi, I really do feel for you. When we had our goats, and the kids were born. If things weren’t quite right, I would take them to bed with me or sleep in the barn. Pull out all the tricks of the. Occasionally one would make it, but most of the time they didn’t-especially if they were preemie. Undeveloped lungs are. Really hard to deal with. I’m heartbroken for Goat. I’m so sorry sandy. No one could ever be a more caring, kind, makes the really hard decisions without it hardening her heart.you are the best; our love and prayers are with you. We are all looking forward to the remainder of the lambing season🙏😘

I’m your exact 300th “like,” kinda cool! I agree, we are already hard on ourselves sometimes, so outside judgements make things a lot harder. The best we can do is learn from the experiences we have and challenges that we face along the way and learn from our mistakes and/or from others’ mistakes. She obviously didn’t to anything wrong to make her animals die or sick, it just happens. It’s still so hard though, heartbreaking in every way. The higher standard way of living is not dwelling on the negativity and judgements of yourself and others and standing firm, confident and positive against the odds. She is a GREAT shepherd lady to her sweet lambs. 🐑

Sandi.... I’m a doctor and I work with iodine exactly the way you do.. It’s the ‘open wound’ on the end of the navel that is susceptible to infection. Keep doing what you do no matter what anyone else says. You’re on the right track. Good for you.

Sandy you've done SO MANY MIRACULOUS SAVES that you've given some of us old hands (not necessarily with sheep)a complex already...
I cried and cried, and cried some more, at the last foal I lost. She was definitely going to be *THE* LAST for her mother...I was doing"okay-ish" until the Mr., was leading the mare out to go back out on pasture, right as the vet was doing the preliminary necropsy, she was *literally* holding babe's heart in her hand, mare smelled her babe, and realised she(baby)wasn't walking right along with her, so took a deep lungfull and let out THE MOST HEARTBREAKING call for that foal! Enough that I instinctively reached down to quiet the foal...vet looked at me, smiled and said"yeesh, THAT was a rough one! Good on you, I'd have been bawling if I'd known Mum;" Pretending not to notice the tears running down my cheeks...I've had early and not so early babies from all species not make it before; but that one just hit me harder than I ever expected!
Knowing it was her Mom's last ever (it took a lot out of her, she was already quite elderly and she really declined during that pregnancy, no more chances for that) (prayed for filly)...made it worse...we'd been hoping for a "girl" to replace her mom..got that, but unfortunately, not enough "spark" to keep running..

    • @cryingbroken8824
      @cryingbroken8824 2 года назад +7

Sandy you're not SCREWING up any messaging! Its the nature of 2nd hand information and re-interpretation, all anyone csn do is what you've just done, "advise others to talk to their own vet!" I remember sitting in a University class and a girl asked to borrow a pen, as I passed it to her, my eyes passed over the page of another student's notes, I quickly tapped HER on the shoulder and muttered a correction to what she'd *written.*
The professor was speaking about how the priests, come to *save* (and convert)the Natives of the continent had unknowingly inFected them with smallpox. The girl had written inJected...which once pointed out and discussed(in whispers) she quickly grasped; made zero sense. And was kind enough to thank me for catching it and correcting her. I still apologized for having inadvertanly read her notes but told her I wanted to catch that before it got too cemented in her mind, and therefore that much harder to correct mentally. We remained fast friends and even study buddies afterwards..despite a 2cdecade difference in ages.

I have watched you for quite a while and know you do everything possible for the welfare of you flock. What I do notice is the confidence level when you are talking to your audience. When you explain things about what the Vet or some other specialist said, you always advised the audience to talk to their own vet regarding these issues, but you always say " I am likely going to mess this up" or " I am likely wrong".
