Multi-award-winning choreographer Wayne McGregor has long been at the cutting edge of choreography. He has won widespread acclaim for collaborative works that often extend far beyond the familiar boundaries of ballet. For this new production McGregor enmeshes themes from Virginia Woolf's landmark novels, including Mrs Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves, with elements of her letters, essays and diaries. Woolf Works expresses the heart of an artistic life driven to discover a freer, uniquely modern realism, and brings to life Woolf’s world of 'granite and rainbow' where human beings are at once both physical body and uncontained essence. This is McGregor’s first full-length production for The Royal Ballet and sees him reunited with acclaimed British composer Max Richter (Infra and Sum), who creates a specially commissioned score incorporating electronic and live music.

I love the way McGregor, works, interacts with the ballet dancers, as he has a unique interaction, feel, and a very different eye for creating,understanding each dancer's individual body, and can get into their mind, and amazingly can bring out the best out of their minds and bodies, by quietly challenging, and channeling them all to their peak energy, and emotional flow into a seamless balletic union. No he's not a Ashton, Macmillan, (whom I've watched, along with Cranko), he is his own beautiful, individual man, who brings The Royal Ballet, into the 21st century. Bravo to Wayne McGregor, "IT" works! (to me), and encore.

What a treat! Alessandra is a treasure and Federico is so strong and sensitive in his partnering and movement. Breathtaking coreography by McGregor.

I thought she was retired! Well, so nice that she is back, she is wonderful, one of my favorites.
She temporarily retired for a few years but then she returned back to ballet, now she’s 57 and still at the top of her game 🩰♥️
Watching the actual performance of the Waves on stage was sublime, and it captured the suicide motif gently but persuasively. Fantastic artists and so thrilled that Alessandra will be returning for the 2017 revival, and Mara Galeazzi. Watching them being rehearsed is a privilege, but you need to be a super category Friend to have any chance of getting to an Insight like this.

Gorgeous choreography and so beautifully executed it really hits you right in the feels. So impressive. Just wondering if all the waist-touching on the choreographer’s part was really necessarily.

Alessandra was born in 1963 and Federico was born in 1978. Alessandra is 15 years older than her partner !!!
