Havent heard this for simply years! Still a top tune. Why werent they more sucessful??
It's likely because the singer doesn't blink.
Had the biggest crush on him while in London during my Jr. year abroad. Saw the band live four times and saw Lester Square on the Tube once!
His name is Tom Hardy does a bit of teaching now apparently it was'nt on the Northern line was it? Beth 'Leicester Square' geddit! Ill get me coat seen them them in the Electric Ballroom and the Acklam Hall when I was a young lad , cheers! Beth
I love Monochrome Set as much as TV Personalities. Eligible bachelors is a masterpiece, all the songs are great and The devil rides out remains my favorite !
Have loved The Monochrome Set since i was 13 and still play their songs to this day! Love them, toodle pip.
Great pop song....love the Set....
One of my favorite gems from my teenage years.....loved hearing this on WLIR on Long Island!
I remember seeing them live in a small club...fantastic night...:)
I just wish they'd have been given the credit they so deseved
Great to see this. I did the sound for them for a while in the mid 70s with my company Ground Control. Have to agree with many of the comments here that they should have been given much more credit. Good luck Bid happy days.
The 'mid 70s'??? They didn't form until 1978.......
one of our favorite songs of the 80's !!
Hysterical and brilliant 👏
What a beat and Farfisa makes it ❤
I just love this song but I’ve never been able to track down anything from these guys other than the old occasional 7” or cd single in one of many C86 inspired compilations. It happened to be at my local spot last time I was in there. I’ve seen the cover to this album literally once in my entire life and it stood out like a glowing beacon on the top of a random stack. Finally managed to get this album after searching regularly for the past 15 years or so.
Their album strange boutique was excellent
Looking forward to see them on Saturday in Karlsruhe.
当時よく聴きました。今観ても聴いてもカッコイイ😍
Me too😊👍
One of the best bands ever, no doubt!
OMG!great, takes me back,l was at glasgow school of art when this came out and you werent in with the in crowd unless you were
into the Monochrome Set !!!
thankyou for posting this
john
soo good
another of my favorites at the time, i bought some lps on my first trip to the uk 1983.
The irony is that 31 years later, this pretty much describes the 1% in America....plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.....
So much so in 2018.
And here in UK or DarkK
Got to be one of the most underrated bands ever
Wow still the best song ever, and no autotune. Who knew?
beautiful .. i seen them about 25 years ago in a concert in roth fabrik in zurich
Great song! And Paul, we did give them a lot of credit in Valencia (Spain) Good day to all...
Brilliant ,thanks for posting this !!!!!
This sums up the world of 2017 MUCH more than the world of 1983. Is this progress?
Supporting these on the 16th of July... Can't wait
That song is sooo phantastic!
I love them since years!
Awesome! It's on one of my tapes from KFJC (Los Altos Hills) by the ultimate (80's) DJ, Winston Q. This tape includes Quiet Girl by the Skunks and Babies in Convent Walls by Claude Coma and the IV's. Always a crowd favorite!
I can see Belle & Sebastian took some inspiration from this for 'Le Pastie De La Bourgeoisie'
i'm in love with bid 😭
Just one song this good would have made the 2013 uk festival scene light up. Sadly, nobody wrote one. If they did, and I missed it, post here.
Ha! I did cutting-edge FM broadcast and played the hell out of this. So fun, thank you!
Supercool! One of the best!
just when your soul feels empty.......here comes the Jet Set Junta! :)
probably the funniest and most ,spot on song the "set "ever wrote ,inspired genius no less
Recorded for a radio session, video tacked on later.
I'm slightly confused.... I know that this song originally appeared a year earlier, on the 1982 "Eligible Bachelors" album but why isn't Andy Warren in this video? Anybody any ideas? Great song!
Anyone???
L'ensemble de monochrome nous donne la grande joie !
Soyez bien !
Merci.
Great stuff, even after erm... so many years
Just announced for Primavera Sound 2011 in Barcelona. See you there!
I didn't know it was THAT short.
...... hugely underrated band........in a fucking hugely underrated kind of way......
Another lost classic from a the New Wave early 80's.
Class! : )
A great post punk 80s band that you may of heard of ~ or maybe not, till now....
how i've missed the monochrome set...
Hey, I like this monte-video...geddit?! Hahahaha
FAB !!
Here you can see from where all these new Franz Ferdinand/Keiser Cheifs and bands like that took their music!
Well, you got a couple of them right. :)
The bass player would have liked to have played on this video but he's a bit shy! A great, Underrated band, I've got all their stuff on vinyl!
Crazy BABY!
mmm... i second that.
gli Smiths devono tanto a questa band
Precursori di quel sound.
Love the decadently vicious lyrics.
The Goldman Sachs theme song!
@theclashmaster1991 That's a classic mid 60's sound, not 70's at all....
it's the dude from the movie called Equilibrium )
Is this the inspiration for Mike Myer's "Shprokets" on SNL? :-) (Just kidding folks -- I love TMS)
face card never decline....
He's actually from India. But nice try.
Go Bid Go! :-)
Love the melding of psychedelia and politics. Who says intellectuals are dry?
Astounding they never had a "hit" too clever I guess
Too clever by half
Also to appreciate this wonderful band you require more than one brain 🧠 cell and that is why they dont get the credit they deserve ❤😂
I tried to make my hair look like that c. 86 or so. It didn't work.
he says junta with a hard j - that is sooo cute!!!
I know Juilliard when I see it....
The last of the shadow puppets clearly liked this!
Either you got the wrong counting or the wrong count-ing …
"When Marr looked through Morrissey's singles collection, he found the Monochrome Set, a band they both admired. Marr later said that without them the Smiths would not have existed."
Damnnnn....thanks for the info
100% true
I saw Monochrome set in 1982 and was deeply impressed. Maybe that's why the Smiths didn't move me when I saw them in 1984. Monochrome Set's Eligible Bachelors from 1982 is masterpiece. I can't find anything nearly as good in The Smiths' discography.
Are these the band members? the guy that sings doesn't look much like Bid, and the guitarist is definitely not Lester
That is Bid.
Anyone found the mating game yet??
We should start a Monochrome Set cult, let's not wait they're all dead ! After all everyone owes them something.
なんかかっこいいの見つけた(´⊙ω⊙`)!
Wow. They really laid the groundwork for the cheesy songwriting and bad music of the '90s.
are u joking ?
So that's what Eric Bana used to do
Hee!
Too bad they didn't let their bassist in on the fun.
lick lar poncha train he aint heavy he my brother
1823 sordos
...and a white girl playing the tamburine totally out of sync...GO TELL HER BIEBER,go tell her!
she's an artist and its deliberate--- difficult to do too.....x
This but everything is cheap gold-plate made in China
Heh. I'm in 2018 now. Everything has been solved. Thanks to the alt right for fixing the world. We knew you would.
OMG!great, takes me back,l was at glasgow school of art when this came out and you werent in with the in crowd unless you were
