    My first machine was a 588, $20 at Goodwill. Wish I still had it. Made my first sweater, a lace shell, on that, and that got me an order for 5 shells for $50/ea. Can you imagine? Talk about excited. Thanks for all the neat videos.

      Oh wow I just bought a 588 on Letgo for $20!!! I'm so excited! You can probably still find them for not much money.

      Thanks for the correction, most times I can figure out a mistyped word but not always. This machine only takes 1 color yarn at a time.

    hello Roberta, Been a big Fab for several Years. Had a stroke but now I am back to being able to use my machines. I have a Passap speed o matic, 3 KH - 585, 581 AND A 588. Do you have video's for instructions more in helping me learn my Machine for the 585? I do not have a manual so before my stroke it was confusing not knowing what I had in front of me and how to use it. I am really a hands on and following instructions so I think all the help I can get with following you with video's would be great in learning my beautiful machine. I have always found you always give great explanation to how to do... so any help for links or advice would be helpful,Thanks Dana

    Hello Roberta, thanks very much for these videos... i think you are the only one doing them and they are really informative! Is it true this model has no ribber attachment in existence that will fit (just read that to my depression online)? It is so difficult to find information. I have read that the similar KH588 can match the KR586, 587 and 710.. any experience of these fitting with your KH585? Thanks kindly

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 лет назад

      I had not checked on that, I no longer have this particular machine but do have the Knit King KH710 that is very similar and it had the ribber with it. Why I got it. There used to be a ribber for most of these vintage machines but as you found out, hard to come by and if you do, most times the seller can be greedy and put the price up high.
      Unfortunately the ribber I got with the 710 didn't have the correct clamps to put on the 588, another reason I did get the kh710 when I did. If you can find the correct clamps to hold up the knitter ends, then I do not see why it won't happen but it is a matter of finding the correct clamps.
      I wish you luck in finding a ribber for your machine or you can get another knitter with a ribber.

      @RobertaRoseMeads  2 года назад

      I do like the older machines, yes could be more work to get what a newer machine can do faster, but then it all depends on the person.

    I have this machine too! I'm still at a loss with the buttons. I was super excited to see this video and it has helped me tremendously in understanding their function. Just you saying "instead of punch cards...." really lit up the light bulb in my mind in understanding their function! Have you figured out how to translate punch cards to the push buttons to get certain patterns? Is that even possible?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 лет назад +2

      +Cris Headley So glad I did get this machine and figure out the buttons, I know a few others that have Brother Profiles and they also had a hard time to figure it out. I am going to hopefully soon get some 8 stitch designs put up on my pages someplace, I will try to remember to put a link in the 2 part video here so that those with this machine and not sure what designs to use, maybe they will get to further their experience with this type machine. Wish I had a ribber for it but if they ever made one, I do not have it at this time. Berda

      +Roberta Rose Kelley - Yes please, I need help with some designs. I have some punch cards for my 910, I get to frustrated and I give up!! thank you for all your video's and how to's!!~

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 лет назад

      +jane parrish Well of course this one is only 8 stitch design so if you have the 24 stitch punch cards, which the 910 I am pretty sure uses Mylar sheets that can be way more than the 24 stitches, if they are a repeat of 8 stitches, then this or other 8 push button machines can use them, but you can find some designs that are only 8 stitch repeat that are just as lovely as some of the other newer model knitting machines.

    Hey just wondering can this type of machine handle standard yarn

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  3 года назад +1

      Not sure what you mean of standard yarn, the machine in this video as well as others are a standard gauge machine or 4.5mm. You should be able to get baby yarn to work on this machine, also if you were to use Every Other Needle, you will be able to use some of the newer Worsted Weight yarns. Hope this helps.

      Thank you! I must say that my machine still work!
      Many plastic parts no longer work ( as push buttons for create the patterns), but otherwise it's still a wonderful "working horse".

    Hi Roberta, this machine came in the post and i manage to set this up, however when it comes to the cast on and i run the carriage, it get stuck, pleeeease help meee :(

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 лет назад

      So when you look at the carriage underside, does it look good? Sometimes hard to say but it may need some lubrication.
      Or also from someone else, they were using the wrong yarn for the machine as I did many years ago also.
      We may have to use email to get this figured out, you can contact me here
      www.hobbyknitter.com/files/contact.html
      and then I can learn more of what is happening and from my experience get to help you get your machine knitting.
      Oh before you do that, how is the sponge bar as most times that is the culprit to why a machine may not work properly. On the side of the bed but towards the front side, the sponge bar is there, you can push it out from one side and then get it out on the other side.
      Towards the end of ruclips.net/video/fI0PwWj7t8o/видео.html, you can see what a bad sponge bar would look like. Then it is a matter of getting a new one or refurbishing that one.

    Roberta is this a new machine made by Brother? Has it always been on the market?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  9 лет назад

      +Jan Benton It is only new to me. This is older than the punch card machines. The lower the number, the older the machine. I believe after the 500 models, came the 800 punch card machines and then the 900 electronic machines. But I like how I can push the buttons to do up a design and not have to punch a card for one of the newer machines. You can find this as well as other older machines on eBay. Berda

    Hi Roberta,
    Does this machnin take a punch car' ?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 лет назад

      Hello Keeky Lloyd. This machine is considered a Push Button machine, so no on the punch cards. There is a file online that you can get for the different designs these 8 push button machines can work up. Well I had a link to a page, I will have to look for it and get back to you.

      Gern geschehen, ich mag die älteren Maschinen, da sie einfach sind, aber manchmal bevorzuge ich eine neuere Lochkartenmaschine.
