I think I need to check the whole encounter resolution part with you here- are you sure each encounter needs to have the tool in the right place? Otherwise what is the point of the preparation outcomes- everything has to be in the right place. I think it’s actually bonus for having right tool in right place during preparation, then after that it’s just if you have that tool at all. Can we please confirm, because I think this one is pretty major!
When resolving the preparation outcome, the one indicated by that little circle, the tool has to be in the right location in your inventory. For the other portion where you get a chance to spend the tool to get the reward, it does not have to be in the correct order in the inventory. It can be anywhere in your inventory.
I got confused about when items in your stock are used, when they are discarded, and when they are spent on stuff. When the right item is in the correct position, are all of the outcomes optional or mandatory? Or are some optional and some mandatory? If none of the items match, does the expedition fail? Or does that only happen when you run out of cards to discard and become exhausted?
The expedition only ends when you run out of cards and are exhausted. The position of the items in your inventory in relation to the expedition card, only matter when resolving the preparation outcome. When you want to spend a card for The exploration outcome, it can come from anywhere in your inventory row. And as far as I remember, they are optional. Mind you if you don’t pay for an effect, and there is a resulting effect because of that, you can’t opt out of it. For example: you come across the situation that says you lose a card if you don’t pay. You can’t choose not to lose that card if you don’t pay. Not sure if I answered all your questions. If I missed anything just comment again.
and can you change your tools on the 2nd and 3rd day or keep those from day 1? when tools are transformed in goods, rule says they stay at the same place, but can they be used to pay like tools? do they stay in place for all the exploration or until dusk? I mean do they stay for the next day and new expedition card or next day goods are in a pile and you choose nex items from your tools pile?
This one is a little more complex because the iconography seems a lot more important. Without knowledge of those icons I struggled to understand the reason for a function, for example the icon that had a red 'O' on it. I do like to ask about cards that are flipped. Do they still count as 'axe', 'bear trap', etc? Is the item limit only for how much you can take with you on the start of the expedition, meaning you wont lose stuff upon returning because you now hold more than your limit?
Once you’re out on an expedition, you can earn more than you can hold. The limit only determines how much you can take with you at the start. Anything you gain along the way is fair game. If an item is faced down, you do not have it. You only have items that are face up. That’s why it’s important to make sure you don’t accidentally flip anything.
@@BoardGameCoffee ah ok awesome. This character certainly is a bit more challenging than farmer and crafter. Working with a lot more unknowns. 3 down 2 to go. I wonder if you'll post up those videos before I get the game. I heard that the ship made port a few days back. It's been a while since I've been this excited for something. Probably playing this with my bro, each of us picking 2 characters each season to play as for maximum content inclusion. There's one more game that has me hyped. I have a bunch of backed games in various stages of readiness, but the other I am really looking forward to has to be Stone Saga.
@@BoardGameCoffee Oh. 11:51 Here. A scenario. The axe was flipped over due to some previous expedition card. The second spot will now be wood instead of an axe, meaning it cannot be used as an axe if the requirement on the expedition card required one? I figure this is where those matching weather icon comes in handy to, say as the example you used in the video, if weather matches rearrange your cards taking an axe card from somewhere else in your line up (hoping you have one) and swapping it with the wood. Am I correct?
I’ve been trying everywhere to get an answer to how to use the 4 expedition skills. I see you placed the skill as normal- but on an expedition you place the worker on the card. So how on earth am I supposed to activate these skills while on an expedition??????
are you talking about the five skills on the character board? it’s been a while since I played the Ranger but I think I can help you out. I just need to make sure that we’re on the same page. if it is those skills you’re talking about, they can only be used when you’re in town. although I do believe there is a skill token for the Ranger specifically that allows you to place a worker on a town space while the Ranger is out on an expedition.
Hi, yeah I’m talking about the specific expedition skills. So it gets placed on the town board, but then instead of placing a worker on a card while on expedition, you just place it on your board?
this is one of those questions that’s hard to answer in the comments, so I’m gonna try my best and flood you with answers. The worker only ever gets placed on an expedition card that requires a worker to activate the ability printed in the upper left corner of that card. and that only happens when the Ranger is out on an expedition. which is the example I show in the video. placing workers in the Ranger action slots of his tray only happens if the Ranger stayed in town and never happens if they’re on an expedition. The skill token I mentioned triggers, while the ranger is out on an expedition. I don’t have the game in front of me, so I don’t exactly remember what triggers it. But I do know it allows you to use a worker from your dice well and place it on a town board action. if none of that information is useful, there is an FAQ for the game. I think I have a link in the video description. if not, I think you can find it from the games website.
Yesterday I struggled at this point, too: If you buy a skill that says: During an Expedition, lower one sprite/villager-dice and put it in the slot next this skill: when does this skill exact trigger? You can't trigger it, when you're in town, but you have no skill-trigger when you're on expedition. So, can you also answer this, please?
i got confused by encounter checks vs tool checks and resolving accordingly. i understand for preparation if it matches you get it, but what about non preparation when it doesn't match? it says you can pay for it even if it doesnt match
you’re correct in that only preparation has to match location. For the other step if you want to pay for it, then you just take the item from anywhere in your inventory.
I’m a bit confused on paying for something. In one example you discarded a rifle card to pay for an effect. The other example you flipped an axe to get wood. What dictates the cards needing to be flipped or discarded?
If the thing you’re paying for is on the other side of the card, then you just flip the card. If the thing you’re paying for is not on the other side of the card, then you discard the card.
What does it mean when there is an item symbol next to the weather in the expedition card? Does that mean you get the item, use the item, or discard the item? I.e. if there is rain, then trap... but what about the trap?
If you’ve earned it comes from the supply. If you’re paying for the trap and it’s printed on the other side of the card, then you just flip the card over.
Any cards you get during the expedition above your limit just get added to the end of your inventory. There is no limit to your stock. The limit to your inventory only applies to the cards you initially take with you.
These videos are amazing. The game is quite complicated and thanks to these videos I understand a lot more :) I only have two left to watch.
Thank you! Glad you found them useful :)

It’s been a while now since I made this video. But if I remember correctly, you will get a trap and added it to the end of your inventory row.
@@BoardGameCoffee
Don't know if this works.
From where to you get the trap from? From the supply or from the stock
If you’ve earned it comes from the supply. If you’re paying for the trap and it’s printed on the other side of the card, then you just flip the card over.
Where do I put the extra cards in my inventory if the longest expedition card has only 5 order?
Any cards you get during the expedition above your limit just get added to the end of your inventory. There is no limit to your stock. The limit to your inventory only applies to the cards you initially take with you.
Do you know what the red eye is supposed to mean as an expedition failed? Its not in the iconography
The eye is just the eye regardless of colour. I noticed that too. I think the red is just a typo… what should I say “printo”
The colour was a misprint, but the icon is correct. It should have a dark green background.
I think the Ranger will be the character I try out first
It’s the one I tried first. And the one I played the most. And it’s probably the one I will go back to.
Please stick with one example and follow it all the way through instead of constantly jumping around
Too late
