That is the same method I use. There’s one exception that I do different. I have a shelf that holds what I call “every box gets one” such as hygiene kits, toothbrushes, combs, pencil pouches, notebooks etc. I know that I need to grab 1 of everything first and they go to specific totes for gender and age. Good job organizing ❤
Thank you for showing your OCC room. I’m sure it will make your packing more efficient with everything sorted and clearly marked. Your videos are always so helpful!
Hubby and I live in a basically a one room cabin so we don’t have a room to dedicate to shoeboxes. However, our small congregation has allowed us to use a side area of pews that only one couple sits in whenever they come to worship. We now have 3 pews full with items divided up by age group pretty full with stuff to go in the boxes and we’re not done shopping yet! I’m excited to get packing this year!
Thank you for showing how you organize your shoe box stuff. I too collect year-round and had to figure out how to organize it all. I have a video showing how I keep a list and then I keep them in tubs organized by age group and gender. My video is on my channel, Every Box Matters, the video is called something like "OCC planning for shoe boxes year-round." I hope it can help give people ideas as well. I do wonder though, how do you organize for your theme boxes? Do you have that organized or listed somewhere to keep track of? I haven't done theme boxes because I don't know how I could organize that well to do it. I would appreciate any tips on that as well. Thank you for your videos!
I just spent several hours today tryng to organize my OCC . I've been buying bulk items and I now realize that I need to separate the items by age groups. Your video makes so much sense. Thanks for posting such great information.
Thank you Christy! I appreciate all of your suggestions. Since I haven't yet purchased totes for this purpose, I will be sure to get clear one. Right now things are just randomly packed in boxes and bags - a great big mess!
Great job organizing Christy! I am not great at organizing because I have a small home. I store my OCC things under the couch in the under the bed clear plastic boxes. I also store some OCC items in my shed in the Christmas red and green plastic storage boxes. When I run low on space in those places then my husband says I clutter up our home. 😂
😂 Thanks for sharing! July through collection my shoeboxes are EVERYWHERE! That’s when I really wish for a basement. God will bless us for the sacrifices we’ve made and it will all be worth it!
My brain works similar to yours! My goal is to organize items by gender and age like you have done. I think I will be able to gather my items for a particular shoebox much more quickly that way. I also have a large tote just for dinosaur items! Thanks for showing us your OCC room!
We have a room at church, in the basement that has wall to wall metal shelves. Our coordinator made laminated magnet signs to put on the shelves so we can move them around. Ours are sorted by categories, then we have mostly clear boxes with lids and cardboard boxes that are labled with what it is, toys, t-shirts, dresses, socks, whatever the age, gender and how many we have. When we add to a box we do a plus how many. We have a master list of everything we have with age, gender, item and how many we have of that item. We also have a goal column on that list so if we have 35 or. Toddler underwear and we need 50, we know we need to get 15 more to reach that goal. We’re a church of 30 members and we are doing 330 shoeboxes this year. We know exactly (pretty much) what we have, what we need, what we have make (ribbon dancers) and assemble. (Fishing kits, sewing kits, hygiene kits) etc. 11:40
Love it! I don't have a room as of now but hopefully in the future I will! Right now I just have some large cabinets. Your channel has inspired me to make videos of my boxes! So excited for this year!
I need that too so I organize in October I start organizing stuff in groups and ages because we do 50 boxes for operation Christmas child through my church and I do not have a room for myself to organize like you do
I feel like dice would work for either a boy or girl. The only age group I would not put dice in for is the 2-4. The room looks awesome and not at all messy if anything an organized mess.
You could paint a black board paint strip like about 4 inches wide. Then you could change your labeling if needed. I think the chalk color would look good on your wall.
I don’t share how many I make because it’s between me and God. But I also am packing more and more fillers every year because so many boxes have only a few things. That breaks my heart.

Great video! I love the way that you used your old dresser. Thanks for sharing!

Your organization makes perfect sense! It looks great!

Awesome! I don’t know why I didn’t do this long ago.
It looks very well organized to me, to bad I don’t have a lot of room to store extra shoe box items, other wise I would.
Thank you Christy! I appreciate all of your suggestions. Since I haven't yet purchased totes for this purpose, I will be sure to get clear one. Right now things are just randomly packed in boxes and bags - a great big mess!

If the system works, great. I have been reorganizing my space too. Hopefully, it will help with my efficiency.
Yes! Efficiency has at least doubled for me with my new system. May God bless you as you pack shoeboxes!
Looks very organized and neat!!❤
Thank you! 🤗

Amazing! We think a lot alike! ❤
It looks great! It seems like a good system to work with!
I definitely think this will save time by close to 50%. It makes sense to me more than my previous system.

That sounds ideal!
Great Room Thank YOU

Does your church not have a storage closet or unused office that you all could have for Operation Christmas Child?
No it is a small building, and a small congregation
So at the end of this season is your room empty? Then you start over and shop all year?
I feel like dice would work for either a boy or girl. The only age group I would not put dice in for is the 2-4. The room looks awesome and not at all messy if anything an organized mess.
You’re right about the dice. Could go either way.
When will the website be back up? Or when will you share the password. Needed printable s for packing party
Soon. It’s being updated. I don’t have a date.

Great idea!
How many boxes do you do in a year? You have alot of stuff.
