I have enormous respect for all branches, i love the air force, navy, army, space force, marines, and coast gaurd, reserves, etc. i have family in the Canadian and spanish militaries, i appreciate all you guys do to keep us safe, cant wait to do air force or army once after my two year lds church mission.
In September 2021, I had a Russian immigrant join the guard. After he joined, he went with his wife out to a celebratory dinner with some friends who were all also Russian immigrants. The friends derided him, asking why would you want to serve this country, and convinced his wife that he was just going to die as a supply specialist so he quit in the middle of his first drill weekend. When people try to convince you, you made a mistake by joining they almost always have the stupidest reasons.
Thanks for this. Getting the run around from recruiters. For army Reserve recruiter says I can still go to federal OCS but then friends who were active duty recruiters and the guard recruiter said they won't give you age waiver for federal OCS only option is state at age 38 maybe accelerated. Flip flop everyday maybe I'll do guard OCS maybe enlist just do 3x5 see how I like it still got to get through meps anyway see how it goes I don't know. I did police work for 16 years currently kinda burned out know i need the job but reserve might give some purpose again
Welcome back and you’ll def renew your sense of purpose. Break the monotony and do something different than your day to day in Law Enforcement. Bad advice from the Hispanic guy. I joined at an older age (38) and felt I was a greater asset than most. Wisdom goes a long way. Stay in shape and you’ll be fine if you’re older.
Thanks for sharing! I think it’s easier for older trainees compared to the younger crowd. I agree with his statement if it’s for combat related jobs due to the wear n tear it downs in one’s body. Thank you for watching and stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼
Im 37 and wish i joined way earlier however age is just a number. I ship for basic in October and although im nervous, i feel like i can do this and will do this best to my ability despite my age. I don't mind taking orders from anyone younger than me as long as I'm respected.

If you’re active duty, you can simply not ship and be DEP Discharged and then be able to go to any branch of service. I’m not telling you to do that but that’s the way or complete your marine corps contract and then transfer. Why do you want to make the switch?
Hello, First of all, thank u for all the vaIuable information. I am currently studying for the US Army. My spouse is an American citizen. I have applied for a Green Card. My I-485 will be approved in 2-5 weeks. After this approval, can I go to the Army office and take the ASVAB test? And if I want to join the US Army right away, can the Army Office help expedite my Green Card process through USCIS ? Thank you for your answer in advance.
No U.S. Military branch can expedite your green card process but after you obtain your Green Card Approval Form “i-797” you can join with the “permanent resident approval memo” while you wait for your i-551 Green Card to come in the mail. Once you receive that approval your recruiter will send a “suitability review” for verification of your “permanent residency status” with the DOH/Dept of Homeland Security. Once verified, you can join. I’ve done it countless times. Once enlisted, you complete and bring with you a completed N-400 & N-426, which will be completed and submitted while at the training site. Before or by your Basic Combat Training Graduation Ceremony, you’ll complete the verbal, written and oral requirements for your U.S. Citizenship. Both those forms apply for, wave the fee and expedite your U.S. Citizenship process. Hope this helps and clears some things up. Good Luck in MEPS and may the MEPS Gods forever, be in your favor! 💯
The guard will take anyone! My bro in law straight up broke his contract hid from a deployment to Iraq. Waited until the GWOT was over then went in the guard as an officer. So the guard doesn’t give af about army values is how I’m interpreting it.
Sounds like your brother in law got out in good terms because the guard won’t take you out any branch wouldn’t take you as an officer candidate unless you had an honorable discharge. I’ve been recruiting for 20yrs to date and there’s no waiver for that. You’re mistaken or your brother in law is lying or he just simply got out after successfully completing his current contract at the time for said reason you stated. Unless you’re him, you’re not going to know the truth and just have to take what he says I guess.

If you complete a 3 year contract in the guard and get out. Are you technically considered a veteran?
Were you put into IRR?
Veteran as served, yeah but no veterans benefits. More for “employment status… Thank you for watching and stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼
Got it. Thank you
