this is one of the best electronic music sets of all time I swear - no real visuals of any kind no pyro onstage just 6 songs dismantled, looped, rearranged, with layers upon layers of atmosphere and crushing bass underneath it all - perfection
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
Not sure I would have bought his cd’s if I had discovered him with this live. Would have been a pity, but I don’t get the feeling I have when I listen to the originals, they are very precise tunes even though psychedelic, I find this quite messy. Maybe the sound is not great as well. I think I would have been a little disappointed. What is he actually doing? This the problem with this kind of music, a live performance is mainly about moving and pretending doing a lot when nothing really happens, like a DJ. That’s why I never appreciated to perform electronic music live. I mean a certain kind of electronic music because it is mainly programmed, once composed, the work is done, not really live actually, rather performed and mixed, thrilling but boring. But don’t get me wrong I love this artist/autist? so peculiar, just catch your hears and mind and never let them go. Best tune for me is arpeggiated love.
lol, same here tbh. And I consider myself one of his biggest fans, and he (along some other Kompakt artists) has inspired me to dive into this kind of music and get some Elektron boxes. Truth is, these performances are rather boring compared to the local power trio band from your block, but you must separate these 2 types of performances and learn to joy them on their own, or don't. Also yes, Looped State of Mind is my favorite, but maybe because he used real musicians to perform in most of it lol
You raise a good point, especially in the context of this artist, where his songs have such a precise minimalism - and a unique one at that, where you’re seriously listening to just the slightest difference in volume on a sample of Kate Bush’s voice going “EEEeeeEEeeeeEee” and then the second time it’s like “EEEeeEEeeeEEE” and that’s thrilling. But a lot of that can be lost here in a different mixing concept, and arrangement. Maybe we are so used to the precise effect of the original, and our brains are primed for that, we don’t see a difference being of much value especially if it removes qualities we deem necessary. Personally having seen him live, I did not enjoy it. Only because he has progressively changed his style from the precision of his early records to a meandering and sonically less interesting palette in later records, and focused exclusively on those records for his set list. If I had seen this set I would have been thrilled at least with Everyday and Over the Ice - the snare he adds in the second “verse” in Over the Ice is terrific, and a great example of some changes being worthwhile here. The overall heaviness of the sound is also very satisfying. The live version of that song at Pitchfork with the drummer is also great. It’s fun feeling the summer warmth in that environment not totally present in the album version, which is absurdly effective at simulating something frozen and alien. But I wouldn’t say he’s not doing anything, only that I don’t really understand what he is doing completely. It seems complex enough. Why bring a fuck ton of equipment with you if it’s just pressing a couple buttons? It’s expensive and a hassle. It doesn’t seem like he’s even using a computer.

Oh yes, the groove is incredible on this release.
Other artists from this label I should know of?
