Thanks you, i was about to write a whole paragraph about why listenning to camellia with headphones is essential to fully enjoy his masterpieces. Besides Camellia, speakers aren't made to follow the song's mixing, a snare on lower stages can be heard more than the main lead, and vice-versa (m a music producer myself and can ensure the importance of headphones) also late reply lmao

Camellia’s music is mainly known in the rhythm game community so it is definitely very sporadic and doesn’t have the same feeling without having experienced it in that sense. He has made songs that work really well as standalone pieces but his style is mostly like what you saw. The songs that were recommended are some of his most well known ones but not necessarily his best work. His music isn’t really a specific genre of EDM and he’s known to be a jack of all trades when it comes to EDM in general, he constantly switches genres and will probably never stick to any in particular

A little surprised that you didn’t get more song recommendations from Blackmagik blazing and Xronial Xero, two of his much more recent albums. The majority of the ones that you listened to here were more bigger tracks in the rythm game community and I don’t think a great representation of camellia as an arist currently. I would have recommended tracks such as looking for the edge of ground, nacreous snowmelt, killerbeast, Z:irnitra, etc. all much more recent songs of his. Your review of the songs you heard were absolutely correct, but I feel you could have gotten a better choice of songs to listen to.

    Hey, quick comment here.
There's a few things you might want to know. I have no right to blame you for the conclusions you went to, as in fact they were pretty accurate for the few tracks you got to comment on in this video. However, one thing you should probably realise is that the fact that when you say the music is just out of nowhere and surprising and you kind of don't know why it ends up where it does, it's most likely intentional. That's his style. In fact, most of the songs you listened to are not even that unpredictable. The selection of the songs was imperfect to say the least (again, no blaming you for that), as three out of five songs were, let's say, "old" (2015 and early 2016. Not actually that old theoretically but he has improved a LOT since then, and that's visible with your opinions as well, as Nasty Nasty Spell is from 2019), and kind of mainstream popular picks of his. If you want to see how unpredictable he gets, to convince you that's really just his style, here's a few titles: Qyoh (2020, 7/8 time signature lol), [ns] (2018), SECRET BOSS (2019), Another Xronixle (2020), Nacreous Snowmelt (2019), Xronial Xero (2020). Give them a listen if you want. Of course, when he makes more mainstream genres, this unpredic
tability of his doesn't serve him well due to the fact that he probably doesn't retain as much of an audience from them as he could - so I can understand your point especially in songs like Light it Up or Exit this Earth's Atomosphere. In fact, a lot of his music regularly goes way above what you have listened to here, reaching up to (I think) 335BPM in Xronial Xero, so the usual predictability might not be the way to go, as that's rarely a tempo to bang your head to, and it might be wise to instead settle on experimenting and trying out different concepts to surprise the listener. I'm pretty convinced this is what keeps Camellia's avid fanbase dedicated, in fact. Personally, what makes me enjoy his music so much is the composition primarily. He seems to be taking immense pleasure in spitting at I V vi IV with it, while keeping it relatively simple most of the time.
Another point is that I believe his production might be lacking due to the ridiculous speed at which the guy works. He's only rising in popularity and momentum, and I'm fairly certain he already has an over 500 song portfolio. He might have noticed that production often escapes the ears of casual listeners not into music production, and decided not to spend a lot of time on it for the benefit of his speed. Speculation, of course, and I'm not saying that's necessarily a good excuse.
Lastly, thanks for making the video in the first place, and giving criticism and credit where they are due. Very on point commentary in my opinion, to the song selection you were limited to. I hope you discover more of his amazing works. Here are some of my favourites to start with: Z:iRNiTRA (2020), Arcology on Permafrost (2018), Routing (2016), Heart of Android :: Even if it's only by Mechanism (2018), liquated (2015), Towards the Horizon (2017?), #1f1e33 (2020), Relic in Letters (2015).
    Cheers.

    I have some feelings:
    1) All of the songs you listened are just the iconic songs, not his best. You should listen to his newer songs and albums that he released from 2018 to now 2020.
    2) You should listen with headphones or earbuds. His music doesn't hit as hard as when you use speakers instead of headphones or earbuds. Idk why it's like that.

    • @lauridsen1381
      @lauridsen1381 3 года назад +5

He is not "genre" wtf. Then you don't know anything about music. I get why a lot of people say it, because he mixes a lot of stuff together in some of his songs, but they usually say it as a joke. Why do you think Camellia himself labels his stuff with genres? He makes Dubcore, Drumstep, UK Hardcore, Speedcore, Breakcore, Hi-Tech, Hybrid Trap. These are the genres he most frequently uses. t+pazo mostly does speedcore and PSYQUI does future pop and kawaii bass.
Also you can't excuse flaws in his music with "it's made for rhythm games, not listening". All music is made for listening, regardless of your audience. They're still flaws (I still think it sounds good but y'know). Also most of his songs aren't made for rhtyhm games, I can only really think of like 8 that are made for rhythm games specifically. People just use them for custom maps anyway (I'm actually not even sure it's legal to do that, but idk really).
I definitely agree on the first point though about NawtyStep not listening to his best, but just his most popular.

The biggest thing about this is that Camellia purposefully makes their music messy in some parts but insanely massive and perfect at the high points, another thing is a lot of these tunes are older, some even being years old, along with the fact that camellia is made to be a mesh of massive amounts of genres all mashed together, it’s just a artist that is made to sound different and rough.

Camellia makes their own type of music , Camellia is a genre , yes it may be chaotic but this is their goal , it needs to be so messy . i do understand your opinion BUT this is not a music creator you can put in a category . They do not focus on what everyone else does , I mean- I am not saying that this is the most amazing and perfect artist , even tho they're very close to that title in my own opinion . They are being original , and to be honest they just make music so people can shit themselves when playing Osu! ( not only Osu! but you get me ) . Each of the songs you listened to are a bit different , one was more "dreamy" one was giving some kind of "Halloween" vibe , and in case of Exit This Earth's Atmosphere it was more of a energetic vibe , very unique . And that's something that only Camellia did so far , so we cannot really compare him to .. any one ? ( It would be dumb to compare Camellia to t+pazolite or Roughsketch for example ) . Great video btw , I just wanted to give my pov

You will find that the blackmagik blazing album has a few amazing tunes I think you should take a look at-
Luin of celchar (Spelling is probably off)
    Night raid with a dragon
    Blackmagik blazing (title song)
    Personal favourites from that album~

One thing missing is, the fans didn't told camelia focus is rhythm game-able. that's his prominent job.
The the sudden switch from one to another genre or rhythm that you said is doesn't make sense is to make the player keeps engaged and challenged in the game.
Howerver it is fair for non-rhythm game player or just a music journalist to be think like that, bc most of tem didn't play rhythm game, especially a japanese rhythm game which is where this J-Core genre came.

    Camellia is god
((Side note two songs by him that I absolutely love are: Seashore on the Moon, and Looking for Edge of Ground
Played them on osu! And now a few hundred listens deep.))

It's so weird seeing how much J-Core has cracked into a more global and popular light, I don't just have to buy CD's from sketchy Tokyo bookstore basements any more
