He has been collecting toys for nearly 30 years, and he has travelled all around the world, visiting toy fairs and also other toy and puzzle enthusiasts.
RockyFacedepet I follow so many asmr channels and i only come to Tim's videos for asmr qualities :) Glad to see someone else enjoying his voice. Interesting content too!
Tim feels his life is so busy as it is, there is no spare time for anything more. Also he is in the Grand Illusions office at least once a week, so if there is a link or website he wants to see, he uses one of the computers in the office to view it. And people know they can e-mail Tim via Grand Illusions.
HBO's old movie intro that ran for several decades used this phenomenon to produce the starburst shot in the beginning. Layers on layers of acetate rotating and counter-rotating. There's even a documentary of the making of the intro...lol
The Bright Eyes album "Cassadaga" comes in a CD sleeve with patterns like this with a little decoder window thing so you can read it. The CD itself wasn't that good, but the package was entrancing.
2:00 You can see how it works just looking at the video. One sheet has small slits. The other has compressed hearts and spades. The slits get a little bit of each heart and spade, each one slightly moved relative to a given heart or spade. So they look much wider than they are printed. It's essentially Nyquist aliasing, where your sampling frequency is too low.
3:25 "...wonderful as if you're looking at four dimensional space and time" Is Tim capable of viewing the fourth dimension as an outsider? This explains so much.
It's all in the movable grid on the top. When it is in certain positions, certain parts of the pattern are displayed through the gaps in the movable grid. When the movable part moves, different portions of the pattern are displayed. Though it still does look really cool
deam you tim... i really need to go to the bed now but whenever 1 video finish im like: OH! this one looks interesting ... and i watch it, that cycle repeats ...
Take out backlight and diffuser films from lcd, supply it with correct voltage, use monitor plastic as housing and cover it with plexiglass. But it is easier said than done. Beware, capacitors can be still charged to very high voltage even if monitor wasnt plugged in for long time. Best for you is to go to computer repair service and they will tell you more how to do it.
There was a link to the kit in the description, but they don't seem to carry it any more. I found something that seems similar here (if the link works): lspwww.epfl.ch//publications/books/moire/kit.html If not, look for Amidor moiré demonstration kit on google.
Polarising film... same effect as in the display on LCD watches and calculators... Black digits on a white background. But if you turn the polarising film over you get white numbers on a black background.... Try it.
I have seen that different people that asked the same question: Where you can buy this kit? But no one received an answer. Can I get an answer? Where can I buy this kit?
I found this channel by accident while Googling something else, and I just spent an hour and a half watching this guy play with toys.
That same thing just happened to me
For me, it was an ad. I still haven't watched the video the ad was on.

Same haha
I found this channel through this video on May 19th 2013, three days after my birthday (on which date this was uploaded). Fate brought us together...
i actually respect this man. he is a very bright old chap isnt he :)
He has been collecting toys for nearly 30 years, and he has travelled all around the world, visiting toy fairs and also other toy and puzzle enthusiasts.
This guy is mesmerising.... I think it takes is back to a time of a show about showcasing a product with no pretention👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It is an LP-1218 Light Panel. I think they are still available, although we bought it a few years ago, and there are probably newer models around.
This guy... It's asmr for me.

RockyFacedepet ASMR... it's effin heroin or hypnosis m8... case in point me just forgetting my life on Earth as I watched this dude...
I want Moire of this!
Way cool.
They remind me of demo effects, like on the C64 and Amiga.
Tim is like the grandpa you just can't wait to visit
Mostly the toys are from Tim's collection, and are not for sale. This is one of the small number that we do sell.

This guy has so much charisma and such a soothing voice.
I'd love to see more of this kit.
"This is a moiré kit to die for....I myself have killed three people to obtain this one...heh"

We all know how it works
@@BodywiseMustard I haven't seen the Nyquist explanation before. I guess everyone else already made that connection.
aka Tim destroys the bitrate
Tim's videos are intrguing.
This is how to keep a stoned person busy for hours.
Indeed, it is, sir.

I like how you answer this question personally every time (no sarcasm).
High quality is a must on this one.
3:25 "...wonderful as if you're looking at four dimensional space and time"
Is Tim capable of viewing the fourth dimension as an outsider? This explains so much.
Beautiful mathematics of frequency and interference
This is my favorite video of Tim's, such a wonderful toy.
so glad I found this channel...thanks for uploading
Every episode Tim gets more and more pleasant :D
Just ordered one of these and I’m pumped
where did you order this from?
The card one blew my mind
What an intriguing illusion.
3:02 My eyes just melted
THIS IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!! I've done a much less cool version of this using two overlapping combs, but this is cooler.
+The Pip i did that all the time as a kid with the combs lol
Love the visual effect.
The first pattern, I'm instantly reminded of Subete ga F ni Naru.
I love moirés, I like the ones that look like animals running or gears turning
A sneak peak at an idea I had: Moiré kit on anime, possibly as a gift. It was going to be a surprise but I've got some others in mind. A fun project.
Reminds me of LCD panel construction. Rotating the cards to alter the phase of the image.
would be amasing if you could use these to hide secret messages
amazing*
Technically you can. There's nothing that prevents you from doing it.

Most interesting and entertaining. Your videos are always amusing and intriging. What a wonderful channel :))
Where can we buy this kit? I looked on the website but didn't see it.
The stars between 1:54 and 2:20 are only visible in HD
this looks awesome.
"Wonderful distortions"

Alright, well I think this is a new favorite toy for me. Amazing.

This is quite amazing.
This vid was Published on my B-Day XD
does it come with a light box like the one used in the video
I can't find this kit on your website. I get zero matches for "moire", and don't see it in optical illusions or optical toys.
It would be cool if you included links wiyh shops that sell this stuff in the description.
Does anyone know the video of the guy who showed a coffee table with the koi fish swimming? Anyone know what I am referring to?
Your voice is so Relaxinggggggggggg
Where does Tim find such interestingly cool toys?
May I ask where can I buy that amazing illusion kit? That is incredible!!!
These effects, are looking extremly like the effects used in old Home Computer (f.e. C64) Demos. :-)
What happens when you overlap more than one of them?
i just love listening to his voice aha
Mesmerizing.
this is awesome. genius
grand-illusions ... com ... /acatalog/Moire_Kit.html
It's shown in all his videos, but they don't put it in the description for some reason.
does it show the future?
Very interesting!
Make me feel like i'm at the library researching with the microfiche
That certainly was a grand illusion.
Superb.
Who produced this kit? Anyone know? There doesn't seem to be a mention of their name, nor the name of the kit in either the video or the description.

Cool, an opitical illusion created without CGI
