One of the few Elevonics that actually used the ability to have custom messages. There were around 110ish words that they could use right out of the box, with the ability to program more if needed. Along with the sixteen segment indicator, the amount of information that could be provided was endless. This really was the peek of Otis, the most advanced elevator system available at the time from any company.
In an era where so many of these are being modded, I'm glad to know these are still alive and well!!!! Especially since they're the tallest 401s on RUclips!!!
@@tkefan29 The one in Atlanta is only 52 floors and the San Francisco one is 40 floors and they're both modded/being modded. This place is almost 1,000 ft tall and 76 floors.
We have a another building whose elevators make a lot of shaft noise. First it’s One Penn Plaza, then Sheraton Times Square Location, then 191 Peachtree Street, and finally, Columbia Center!
I have a few videos of these on my channel. These are probably my favorite elevators I've ever been on in a Skyscraper above 70 stories. They may not be the fastest skyscraper elevators I've been on, but they're still pretty fast and they're definitely the most original by far!
@@alpaljl Indeed. And like I said, they're still pretty fast. The SkyLobby Express and High Rise (40; 66-75) max out at around 1400 FPM, and the Elevators that go from 75-76 travel at 350 FPM for just ONE floor!!!
These are indeed a TON of fun and by far some of my favorite skyscraper elevators ever. And the nice thing is, because there is a Starbucks on 40 and a Observatory on 73, they LITERALLY do not care if you film these lol.
You can honestly use it to display any text you want. I'm pretty sure that used to say "Welcome to Columbia Center" along with date and time at one point
If they aren't modding these after ADDING 2 express elevators last year to 73 in addition to modding both banks of parking elevators last year...Chances are...These will probably remain as is unless something really bad happens.... Hopefully this remains the case for many years to come...

In this building the skylobby elevators have a capacity of 5000 lbs, and the 66-75 elevators have a capacity of 3500 lbs
