Speaking specifically of the majority of secular rap (which is pretty much all anyone ever hears these days), of course it is. Even if it’s the norm for people in the hood, that doesn’t actually make it “normal.” It causes people who may not have grown up in bad neighborhoods to pick up extremely bad behaviors, as our brother said, but even those in the hood are *_fueled_* by that garbage. It doesn’t extinguish this desire some may have to be violent. It adds fuel to an already existing fire.
People are very hive minded. They see, they do. It’s the way it’s always been. If the most popular songs in society are speaking about nothing more than violence, drugs and sex, what should we expect to see more of in society? Is it really a surprise to anyone that everywhere we turn we see violence, drugs and sex? You might argue, “Well, it’s always been that way.” But when such things are normalized, commercialized and even glorified, that is WILDLY different than living in a society where things like that are shamed and looked down upon and yet still happen naturally, though in significantly smaller amounts. When such things are promoted the way rap is, it not only causes people to become desensitized to evil, but this evil becomes magnified a 1,000 fold and no one bats a single eye.
So yes, of course it’s awful for society. How could it not be? It's why I took a vow years ago to stop listening to rap. I can't in good conscience listen to, promote and sing along to songs that are full to the brim with everything a follower of Christ should stay away from. I think, as Christians, that we should strive to align are behaviors with our beliefs, but I don't see how that could happen if we're listening to rap in one moment and then glorifying Christ the next. I just feel as though it's an inconsistent way to live our lives.

I really understood a lot by what you said and i agree. When people with large influence glorify sex, drug use, hatred and what not, it gets into to minds of those who listen to it. It can eventually be reflected in their behavior. I’m a christian who is trying to give up a lot of the music i would once listen to (it has been a struggle), but what would you say about Christian rap? I have been listening to it a lot recently.

@@meazanegatu8140 Honestly, it depends. I think we need to be mindful of everything we watch and listen to. Not paranoid, just mindful. In other words, don't just blindly accept something just because it's labeled as "Christian", because there are movies and songs (even so-called “Christian” songs, whether rap or otherwise) that don’t seem very Christ-like. So the very first thing I’d recommend for you or anyone to do is to pray. Ask God for the wisdom to understand the difference between right and wrong. Literally ask that of Him. Pray and ask Him to guide you down a path where everything you say and do is pleasing to Him and will ultimately glorify His will for your life.
That said, if there’s nothing even mildly resembling sexual conduct or violence or whatever else that wouldn’t qualify as being Christian (which, as mentioned above, unfortunately is not always the case), then I suppose there isn’t anything _technically_ wrong with it. I would just be careful that it doesn’t serve as a means by which you can slip back into listening to regular rap, you know?
We’re called not to conform to the world and it seems as though a lot of my brothers and sisters are steeped head deep in these satanic ideologies that so very clearly and obviously go against the principles they claim to believe in, so it’s refreshing to hear at least one of you speaking about your attempts to move away from such things.

@@guilty-of-being-right Dung can be used as fertilizer, as energy, etc, but where are the benefits of hatred and violence? Of defying those who are attempting to maintain the laws of the land? Of greed and materialism? Of rampant promiscuity and objectifying women? Of drug abuse and so on? There are no benefits. It’s all hedonism. It’s a pleasure-seeking system that aims to satisfy the desires of the flesh, rather than focusing on the building up of the spirit.

its not the music, its the content. if i rap about Jesus Christ and how aewsome he is, its good. but if i rap the typical ''money, fame and h**s'' nonsense, its evil.
