I watched this video 2 weeks ago. It has been the only youtube I've watched that has made such a dramatic improvement in my short game. Today, played 9 holes, shot a 41, my lowest EVER. I no longer worry if I miss a green cuz I know I"m still likely going to 1 putt more times than not. The only thing I do differently is pause at the top of the back swing. Thank you!

Great basics! Russ, a question about opening the face….are you still wanting to strike it toward the toe vs the heel when face is more open?

Excellent review of basic chipping fundamentals. I cannot disagree with anything put forth. From my perspective not mentioned and perhaps should be is the grip on the club. Grip is critical for me in influencing/determining the loft of the chip shot I want to make as well as consistency of strike. In general I want to strike the ground when chipping with the trailing edge rather the leading edge in order to reduce margin of error in striking the ball. A perfectionist would hit the ground with the middel of the bottom of the club head- neither the leading edge nor the trailing edge. Few golfers can achieve this feat with consistency. I certainly am not one. I achieve much more success in chipping when I strike the ground with the trailing edge using a grip that sets my leading wrist in a bent forward position as i strike the ball. This ensure a consistent strike of the club head for me into the ground with the trailing edge as it strikes the ball guaranteeing a skid under the ball and creating loft in the chip. I do not understand why instructors and there are many of them who speak about chipping never seem to mention the advantage of a grip with the leading hand's wrist bent back to ensure loft as well as more consistency of strike (even in green side bunkers) using the trailing edge to strikes the ground under the ball. Only Phl Nicolson using the leading edge when chipping but that is a specialized technique not for everyone. Comments appreciated.

Sorry I meant to say "with leading hand's wrist bent forward "not back as mentioned in the fourth to last sentence.

Thx for these tips on chipping Russ. Sometimes I try to get too fancy w/ my flop shots, I end up way short or blading it 😂, so make sure you practice beforehand or feel very confortable w/ opening the face up all the way before attempting it. 🫣
