I want to go back to this time, singing this at the top of my lungs in my room unaware of the abysmal mess my life would become and the people dear to me that would pass😔
When Heidi sings "Envy is the only thing it could be", at 2:16, my whole body was covered in chills. This song will soon turn 10 years old, but the meaning is still highly relevant.
This is a song I want to dedicate to my manager, who made me feel dumb and useless inside after the first yearly review. I'm not vicious or angry, but want to remind them that their words are also a reflection of how they feel about themselves inside, too. I'm leaving the job and trust the wounds will heal and make me stronger. Thank you, Sugababes, for performing such a relatable song.
I read that wrong lol. I thought it said one of the group members were a sister of someone from TLC. But I totally agree with what you said! This does follow Unpretty ❤
Such a beautiful song. Unfortunately it's human nature for people to be hateful but I hope that one day people can look past their hate and jealousy and embrace themselves and be able to love others!
I used to love this song when I was 7 because it said "When I was 7" in it so I felt a connection to it. At such a young age it made me feel better when I was sad about anything. I'm now 19 and still searched this song up. I'll always cherish it and its important message.
This is a timeless track, great chord progressions, lifts, reliefs and absolutely beautiful vocals throughout. And. I love my playing bass to this. Great vibe....plus all the boys n girls in the video really make it ... 💜💜💜
When I feel sad or people make me feel ugly, I always come here listen this beautiful song with a big lyrics meaning. Whatever the place, in the car or in home. It makes me feel much better, and makes me smile!❤️ This song help me so much!💖 Thank You Sugababes!❤️🙏🏽
I love this song it literally represented my whole primary school experience. Songs like this will forever be representing the hardship for so many youngsters out there. There’s a pure message that we should all remember whether young or old we should love and respect one another regardless of looks or race ❤️
@@HazardTJ3737 I think a lot of people would be healthier, happier and respectful if treated with respect. Maybe if society didn't tell them to repress themselves, their souls wouldn't be broken and didn't need "redirecting". No one is born hateful.
You just can't beat a good old fashioned pat on the back song about universal acceptance of how all us humans are just the neatest thing ever. Personally, I sing like a sphincter, and The Sugababes are happy to share that they do too. Bravo!!
This song sends a good message to everyone, it is a nice song. No one should bring someone down, just because, they may be hurting or because they want to be unkind.
And yet it's done non-stop. I grew up with non-stop criticism, from a narcissistic parent. The only way to survive narcissistic person, is to run, run run away. Far away from here
The incredible Mutya!❤ its interesting to see Mutya taking the lead in so many of the songs where it's her vocals which provide the introduction to so many of the songs which presumably must have been part of the production formula adopted by the band with emphasis on the contrast between the incredible voices of both Mutya and Keisha.
Sugababes' music was way ahead of their time. Taller in more ways was their best work, before all the personnel changes. Solid singles from this album, all of which should have gone number one. Shame that management destroyed a great group
It is still better to be yourself and liked by no one than pretending to be someone and like by everyone. Just be who you really are and ignore the people who call you names!
remember, only the most beautiful people (inside and out) get bullied, if that profile picture is you.. it just shows im right with my statement :D hehe
A great song that has even more relevance now than it did when released to the kids growing up with the pressure and scrutiny that surrounds them these days.
I think this song is amazing, because it tells people that your unique and you shouldn't care what people think about you because your amazing just the way you are! And if people judge you then they are judging themselves, because we are all different!
Before we could be anything, Punk, Metal; Goth anything and fck everyone. Now people have to confirm to something and I see my 8 year old niece depressed because of it. WTF is going on!! And Sugababes were ridiculed, whzy? Because they were right.. As were all musicians.. ATB, mate
I've been bulimic and self harmed since I was 12..now I'm 19 and I'm still struggling, but music like this encourages me to be myself and to try not to let the things in my past and my insecurities get the better of me.

A beautiful song that brings a tear to my eyes every time :') I used to get picked on for having big eyes and weird hair as a kid, and I've always been very short. Hearing this makes me remember how low people made me feel about myself, but also how now I have "grown taller than them in more ways" :)
some music nowaday's you just hear thin people shaming bigger people, bigger people shaming thin people, people shaming people all together. this song is good for the ears and the heart.
Wow! I was 8 years old when this song was released and although I remember it I couldn’t fully appreciate it at that age. I’m 25 now and listening to this for the first time in a very long time and it really does hit different being a mixed heritage young woman! I have renewed love for this song and the Sugababes!❤
I loved Keisha when she was in the sugababes and I was gutted when she left. To me, she had the best voice, was the most beautiful, had the vocal range and power, was the best member of sugababes, was and still is one of my celebrity crushes.
This song inspires me so much. When I feel down because of what people have said I listen to this. It makes me feel like I am good enough and I deserve to feel beautiful. Bitchy girls have a lot to learn from this song!
I'm so happy how I surpass all the bullies and hurt they gave me and now I can say Thank you I am far more greater than who I was before. Lets continue to spread love not hate.
This is kinda before social media. I would have hated to have grown up with social media. I’m so lucky I missed that period. Life was hard enough as a teenager without the horrors of the internet.

"I asked my parents if I was okay" sounds the most reasonable, but I can swear she sings something like "I asked my parents see if I was okay", maybe it's "to see if I was okay" or something or she just says "parents" weird.
This song evokes such powerful emotions for me. Great song, lyrics, video are so visually pleasing. It exposes the world and it's people but rather than show these ugly people, they show the outcasts with such amazing and beautiful qualities despite all the strife they have had to live through. Wow! What a beautiful song that was. Somehow I feel so ashamed to say that I didn't even know that it even, and ever existed. Beautiful meaning/s and in a time where artists were recording songs about imperfections shall I say or whatever. Beautiful by Christina Aguilera for instance comes to mind. All the best for you girls and especially for Mutya since I happen to really love and appreciate the Philippines.

Kudos to the writers of this song and Sugababes for singing... Very uplifting, an anthem for bully victims
ironic considering the amount of bullying that went on in the band

Mutyas hair and makeup is perfect in this
Maays Mutya was perfect
the contouring is too heavily contrasted. It almost looks like Mutya altered her chickbones already.

Why can't we have more empowering songs like these? With real morals within them. Most music I hear today are about sex appeal and romance.
"Ugly"
When I was 7
They said I was strange
I noticed that my eyes and hair weren't the same
I asked my parents if I was OK
They said you're more beautiful
And that's the way they show that they wish
That they had your smile
So my confidence was up for a while
I got real comfortable with my own style
I knew that they were only jealous cos
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
There was a time when I felt like I cared
That I was shorter than everyone there
People made me feel like life was unfair
And I did things that made me ashamed
Cos I didn't know my body would change
I grew taller than them in more ways
But there will always be the one who will say
Something bad to make them feel great
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
Everybody talks bad about somebody
And never realises how it affects somebody
And you bet it won't be forgotten
Envy is the only thing it could be
Cos people are all the same
(The same, the same)
And we only get judged by what we do
(What we do, yeah, yeah)
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
(Yeah, you)
So are you
So are you
People are all the same
(Oh, oh, oh)
And we only get judged by what we do
(What we do, yeah)
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
(Yeah, so are you)
So are you
So are you
