The LAAT hate is crazy to me. 2 of the top 3 empire lists at world’s had LAAT’s. It’s closed transport, it’s fast, and it actually shoots reasonably well if you stick HE shells on it. Hover is also a bigger deal than you’d think for mobility, and it’s a lot cheaper than the GAV.
My issue is if it's hover and can move over terrain height 1 than you should be able to shoot what's behind it due to it not being in contact with the ground.
The LAAT is superior to the Gav for most Imperial lists that rely on delivering a single unit. Much of this is due to it being a Closed transport. Offering complete protection to its unit to deliver makes a huge difference, and for only 100ish points. The AA5 would of course be better, but that's not available for Empire.
I like LAATs in Republic - you don't get the token synergies that you'd get from a Clone Trooper unit, but it's easier to get a Z-6 or DP-23 unit (or choppy Wookies, I guess) into range safely - and the shock pilot gives tokens when you exit and Fox gives you tokens even after you debark. I also think the immunity to melee/Range 1 weapons is really good - keeps big lightsaber pools from chopping through.
I love my double snail list! Tons of fun to play and catches people off guard with its speed and dice pool all the time.

The experimental snail also doesn't have transport, so it's just a moving wall
I was going to mention this as well 😁

Do you have any examples of tournament reports / Game Uplinks where the snail tank was brought in ExD and performed well?
