I just bought a 1968 Godzilla off Buyee and used your 20$ yen coupon and bumped 49$ to 36$ thank you MIb so much so I don’t have to spend 200$ or 100$ on eBay.
@@PhilipAJones I know. My mind was blown when I heard it in that promo. I then realized the similarities between the Power Rangers theme and Electric Eye. I guess Power Rangers is what got me into heavy metal.
Funny you mention that. I sometimes see bootlegs of the Godzilla Force mold but with a paint job to look like Operation Overdrive Rangers. Of course they also can't remove their helmets, which look even more like OO's due to being scaled down slightly. But they're definitely Godzilla Force due to the bulky armor and that insipidly 90's quilt pattern mesh on the waist.
FUN FACT an animated series was planned but after the release of the 98 godzilla animated series they droped it as to not have the two shows compete with each other wich is allitle disappointing in my opinion
@@lemongod9466 Well, originally the Godzilla movie of the 90s was set up to come out in 1994, during the height of the Power Rangers fad. Probably a cartoon was planned to come out alongside the movie in which these guys were going to fight monsters alongside Godzilla, but when the movie was delayed so was the cartoon. By the time Godzilla 98 came out the Power Ranger fad was dying and the movie was too "realistic" for a bunch of guys in spandex fighting against giant monsters, so the show was retooled in the much beloved Godzilla the Animated Series (that ironically never had a toyline due to the movie's toyline bombing hard)
When you were talking about OC Power Rangers like characters, my mind just flashback when I was kid that I had some toys that looks like Power Rangers but I honestly can't remember what it was called but the designs were very cool
At point of interest, the Garuda ship in the 1995 Catalog is a Hand-Painted RESIN Hardcopy Prototype. Usually much better detail and paint. The final toys usually end up a completely different color when they get to the mass produced stage... ;)
Yeah, they need the one in the stock art to look amazing so that advertisements and catalog photos will sell the toys harder than what they can actually afford the toys to look like.
I had so many of these as a kid. Still have them in a box at my parents house. I always liked Mogera and Anguirus as they came in a big pack of 4 inch Monsters and they never seemed to show up in any of the other configurations.
Dude your set up looks sick as fuck. I love the lighting and the little animated sprite pictures of Megalon and Gigan. It’s making my transformers collection set up look weak.
Wow, I vaguely remember the Trendmasters Garuda & giant Mecha-G figure, but never had any clue that they actually combined. _MIIIIIIIND BLOOOOOOWN!_ 🤯 PS- Lol for random Ultimate Nullifier joke 😄
I remember these toys. I had a bunch of Trendmasters Godzilla toys. Mostly the little guys who came in eggs. Full grown Kaiju that hatch out of eggs, sure why not? I still have some I think. But I know for sure I still have the Godzilla with the button to make him roar, and Margret O'Brian with all of her accessories. The figures weren't too bad and they could be used as generic sci-fi characters if you wanted to. Thanks for reminding me about these toys, I'd not thought about them in a long time.
I think what happened was a Trendmasters exec saw the fledgling success of Power Rangers, snorted some coke to make himself feel better, then Blue Oyster Cults Godzilla came on somewhere in the office. When it got to the go go Godzilla part, it reminded him of the theme song he heard the one day a month he's allowed to see his kids. He bursts into the lead designer's office looking like he'd ate a whole Krispy Kremes worth of powdered donuts shouting "I have an idea!"
"100% original" Actually, I'm convinced someone on the team read a lot of Iron Man comics and realized they were the only person who knew who Titanium Man was. Maybe they were playing Street Fighter 2 at the time and got inspired by the palette swap idea.
I remember before I actually watched the Heisei films I thought the stories on the back where a story they made up for the toys. I also thought they were going to have a show for the toyline too.
Theres a part of me that wishes there was a proper Saturday morning cartoon based on the Trendmasters toys. I don't think it would have been any good, mind, but I still would've liked to see it.
The funny thing about the films, is that America DID get the license to Two Godzilla Films, Godzilla Returns or Godzilla 1985, and Godzilla vs Biolantte! Both Heisei movies were just the first step into the series and were available in the 90s. But yeah, it all gets crazy, but I’m glad that my Suncoast store had access to these films once the Mid-2000s rolled in.
Considering Godzilla was clearly the start of the inspiration chain for Power Rangers, that's something that always got me. Taking something that would later inspire something and find a way to use it to recursively make a knockoff when one becomes super popular.
I really feel like this is a 90s ification of GForce. And that's pretty cool. Although, it would have been cool if it had a little more Godzilla in the Godzilla Force.
Funny enough, the Godzilla Force helmets bear a striking resemblance to the ones from GoGo Sentai Boukenger (2007) which would later be adapted into Power Rangers Operation Overdrive.
I actually have the 10 inch Mechagodzilla toy! Though sadly when my parents bought it for me online we didn’t know it didn’t come with the tail, and I didn’t even know until seeing this video that he came with an alternate back piece to attach Garuda, now I’m double pissed
Does it make me a terrible person that I actually did get to watch most of the films from the '90s, shortly after they came out? Basically I have extended family who lives in japan, and knowing that I was a huge Godzilla fan they would send me movies for Christmas and my birthday. This is back in the days of VHS so nothing was region locked
I still see bootleg toys that use these armor designs, in all sizes and qualities. Usually with paint jobs or details meant to pass them off as Super Sentai or Power Rangers toys, but with that specific helmet.
I wonder if the Garuda bio was a reference to how in the movie, Garuda was rendered obsolete when MechaGodzilla was built and only relevant when the creator pressured MG’s creator to add a combining function to the mech and ship.
I was thinking that myself. Though, the Japanese dialogue in the prologue of MG'93 implies that Garuda was rendered obsolete by its inability to maneuver well.
I remember turning the packaging over and staring at the back, for hours. Wondering if I’ll ever get them all, and why the designs differ so drastically from the on screen stuff at that time. Then I got Godzilla vs biollante. And then The “official Godzilla compendium” where ALL heisei movies are listed. I was in absolute awe as a G Fan.
The Godzilla Force had the Operation Overdrive/Boukenger helmets long before Operation Overdrive/Boukenger. I wonder if Toei and Plex used those as inspiration for that helmet design? XD Coincidence probably haha.
I had that exact mechagodzilla toy and I remember wondering what the deal with the plate was. Fun fact: I also remember constantly wondering why they made his hands so freakishly small
I was watching this with my brother and he said no. You can imagine how surprised he was when it replied with "well too bad"
I imagine he has gone on to assume that every person on phones television and computers can hear and answer him?
