    • @ex0duzz
      @ex0duzz 2 года назад +6

      Ding beat Carlsen in exactly the same way a few months ago also, but it was even worse. All Carlsen could do was move his King back and forwards while ding walked his King to the other side of board and used it as an attacking piece and Carlsen had to resign when dings King finally showed up like a boss. Lol
      I'm really enjoying these games since it seems like no one else but Ding is able to reduce Carlsen to such utter passivity, so passive and hopeless that ding has all the time in the world to improve his position and even walk his King down and use it as the decisive, final, attacking piece lol.
      I would LOVE to see Ding win the candidates and challenge Carlsen in the WC match. I think Ding is the clear challenger with the best chances. IMO ding might even be slight favourite or at worst even money. I based that on their overall lifetime head to head score(which is basically equal iirc) along with this and the other recent game where ding also King walked after reducing Carlsen to complete and utter passivity.
      Ding is the only one who regularly gets winning positions fa Carlsen it seems. And not just winning positions, but he also converts them too like this game.
      Imo it seems pretty effortless for Ding, while most other players not only struggle to get a winning position or win, but struggle to even draw or not lose.
      Ding is easily the best challenger for carlsens WC title currently. Hope Ding wins the candidates! And then wins the WC match,p also. It would be massive positive result for the chess world. Just the WC match alone would generate interest in China and the world never seen before let alone Ding winning! Can't wait for candidates!

      I don't think it was ever questioning his ability
      You have tournaments organised, against your fellow countrymen, for the sole purpose of 1. Getting enough games 2. Keep his rating high enough
      Questioning of legitimacy will always be there, especially when there is that very small possiblity that they can "throw" games so Ding makes all the requirements, especially the rating requirement

    Ah! Masterpiece. I ardently love the chess games in which the King takes King's strides when queens and many materials are on board. Reminds me the long king walk made by GM Nigel Short against GM Thimman. How the seemingly cute steps of King turned into a giant threat is the beauty of chess. I think this is a fresh and modern classic which will be remembered and told with all joy for many next generations by world class players and unrated too mischievous chess player like me also. Gracias. 🙏

    • @ex0duzz
      @ex0duzz 2 года назад +4

      Lol, poker is not easy to win big money, it's a big grind, more than chess.
      For someone like Carlsen, chess is easy money. Carlson gets paid just to show up, and even if he loses he willing get paid a million just to play in the world championship match. Doesn't get easier than that.
      I doubt Carlsen will get paid a guaranteed half a mil to a million just to show up and play even if he loses.. And if he wins, he will get a million, and a guaranteed another half mil to a million for the next match vs the next opponent. That's not even counting all the other tournaments appearance fees and sponsorships which he won't have as a poker player. Carlson also doesn't even need to study much if anything, since he's so good already and he will get paid even if he loses or just shows up and plays, unlike poker.
      If Carlsen didn't enjoy chess still, then why does he still play online for fun? If he can play dozens of games a day online for free, surely he can still play ten games for a tournament or world championship match and be paid tens of thousands to a million or more.
      I mean it's an excuse to go for holiday to various places in the world, play a few games, be paid handsomely for your time, etc. what more do you want? Why would you give that up at Magnus' age? He's still young, and if he wanted to do other stuff, he can since chess doesn't take up that much time. He can pick and choose to play just the world championship match, and just play one or two high paying tournaments in places he wants to visit and holiday in.
      I don't get why Carlsen is thinking of giving this up or retiring. He still has a few challengers like ding he needs to beat before he can say he has nothing left to prove. IMO nepo was a bad challenger and never really had a chance. Ding would be the ideal challenger not just due to his skill and chances, but also because he's Chinese and could generate a level of interest never seen in chess before, along with the prize money that would also bring, and the exposure chess would gain if ding won would be awesome for chess.
      If Magnus is going to retire, he should do it after playing and hopefully losing to Ding. That would probably be the best outcome possible for the chess world. I hope it happens. Magnus retiring undefeated would be pretty bad for the chess world and would leave an empty gap basically. Kinda like Fischer who refused to play. Except Magnus doesn't have any political or mental baggage like Fischer did at that time and this would 100% be his own decision.

    While Ding spends 8 tempi to hide the king, in all that time MC cannot create an advantage. Sounds incredible and I really would like to know AlphaZero's reflexions.

    That was sensational! Normally it would be a losing strategy to spend that much time just moving the king from one spot to another, without any actual threats to counter, but because Magnus was trying to keep the position closed and couldn't really do anything dangerous, it worked a treat.

    Ding has apparently studied Petrosian's King marches games. It's interesting that Magnus had problems against a similar idea by Karjakin in their WC match, even though Karjakin's later inaccuracies allowed Magnus to save a draw and later the match.

    This game reminds me of a certain game played by Tigran Petrosian where he also walk the king like that.

    It is the second time that Ding beats Magnus by walking the king to the other side of the board!
    My question, is walking the king like that pouplue in the high rating games?

      I'm just a spectator but I think two conditions need to meet:
      1. Position are better than opponent such that no straight forward end game can be reached via trading
      2. Position is somewhat closed by your opponent's decision
      Point is that Your opponent can't mount an intercept or direct assault within 5 or so moves.
      Ding tied Magnus's pieces down and it's in Magnus's interest to keep the position closed. Ding can prepare faster than Magnus could rally the defense.

      No, it is super rare especisllt against Carlsen, and top 10 players. Which is why this is so impressive, even more so since ding did it twice to Carlsen in the last few months and Carlsen is reduced to complete and utter passivity.

    This is the second recent game where Ding did a king walk and beat Carlsen..
    Although in the other game Magnus was completely locked down and reduced to utter passivity, and in the end ding walked his King from his corner of the board to carlsens side of the board and used it as the final attacking piece that allowed him to win the game.
    Ding is a beast and IMO would be the best challenger to Carlsen. He always gets good positions vs Carlsen even if he doesn't end up winning, but he also wins regularly too like here.
    Compared with other top 10 players who seem to have a hard time even getting winning positions/chances at all, it seems to be a regular thing for Ding against Carlsen.
