The 4Runner Limited is an outstanding package. It is full time 4WD. It has the luxury look, the sporty look, and the rugged look all tied into one great package.
The 4Runner Limited is the closest thing to the last model Land Cruiser.

I have a 22 4runner Limited and driven across country twice. The comfortable ventilated seats, the smooth ride, the huge cargo space, the satellite radio, the navigation system. It handled the hills and mountains of West Virginia brilliantly. I would not want to take any other vehicle on a journey like that. Its so smooth and comfortable.

The Limited makes sense for someone who wants a 4Runner for its classic rugged looks, simplicity, reliability and comfort but does not plan to do any hard core off-roading. The Limited has all the amenities that one needs in an honest-to-goodness premium vehicle; no more, no less. There is still a significant number of buyers who do not care for the complex interface of many new luxury vehicles with multiple steps / menus needed just to turn on a heated seat or change the radio station. If that is what you are looking for, the choices abound; but for those who want old-school luxury and simplicity, this Limited serves the purpose. This is a vehicle that will last, and one you'll be able to keep long after the loan is paid off and will serve as winter car / hauler / second car, even if it is no longer a daily driver at that point. There is a reason so many people love the 4Runner and why Toyota is still profiting from it, 14 years after this generation was introduced.

Couldn't have said it better myself, I wanted to get this last 2024 model of its kind, after listening to what's going on with the new Tundras and Tacomas I didn't want to take a chance waiting on the 2025 model. The current 4Runner is proven to be one of the most reliable vehicles out there and that is solely the reason I got it.

This is my 2nd 4Runner in the last 7 years. I used to have an SR5 premium and now I have a 2023 limited. The limited is ABSOLUTELY a nice package set up. I'm never going to go off-road but at the same time I really wanted the heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel etc... I also love the look of the limited with the chrome. I'm usually not a big chrome guy but for some reason it looks really good to me on this trim. So yeah there's definitely some buyers that love this trim as I do. It also has that x-reas suspension that although I've heard it breaks down maybe at 100K, does make the ride more smooth then my SR5 premium. I also had a Lexus GX and although that road really nice I prefer the look of the 4Runner. So to me the limited trim is the closest thing to the GX as far as luxury.

Let me put it this way: What is wrong with adding some luxury to the 4Runner? Maybe I don't want to drive around in a bland Highlander, and I want a vehicle that's assembled in Japan and has full time 4WD that I don't have to worry about switching in and out of 4WD in slick conditions. Limited can't go off road? LOL...at end of the day this is still a 4Runner with body on frame and 9.6 inch of ground clearance.

I think the big selling point is the full time 4wd. Otherwise I am fully onboard about the wheel size and the trying to be something it’s not thing. For people who just want an old school SUV that is bullet proof, maybe just for hauling kids or living in the mountains or northern US to deal with extreme weather frequently, I get it.

I know you’re baiting for comments so, here goes: The 4Runner Limited w/full time 4wd is a great snow country vehicle. Yes, one needs to put on good snow tires e.g: Bridgestone Blizzak on TRD 17” wheels to make it so. The stock wheels/tires make for a good summer set up. The rest of the amenities are nice without being over the top, “look at me”, excessive. I agree that it doesn’t make sense as a hard core off reader package. But for places like rural New England, it’s a “Pissah” package😉

I bought a 2024 Limited today because it has the vented seats (among other things). I traded in a 4wd Cherokee that had a lot of great features (including vented seats--it's more hot where I am than cold) but was coming to the end of its life. The Limited is perfect. I'm never going to do any serious off roading but I use the Limited to get around town. Fiscally, it was not the smartest purchase--that choice would have been a Camry--but I wanted a big ol truck with not-so-great pickup so that I'll stop driving like a maniac on the freeways. The 4Runner Limited is a much better choice in that category than anything else i could think of.

My wife and I are both nurses and we're considering a 4runner for our next family vehicle. We need a vehicle that has the space for kids/road trips, but also the capability to get us to/from work in any weather conditions the upper Midwest will throw at us. My priority is I want a vehicle that is reliable and drives like new 10+ years after it's been paid off. Wife wants a leather interior with heated seats. Personally I'd be fine with cloth seats, but if we're going leather I'd rather have ventilated too, which narrows it down to a Limited for us

Well, it totally depends. I’m 55, I like the luxurious upgrades of my Limited. I primarily use it on hardball much more than off road. It’s nice having the ability to go off road or having the all wheel drive and 4WD in snow, slush and heavy rains. Not everything is always about off roading simply because you own an off road vehicle. I like having the luxury with a purpose. This model fit like a glove for my lifestyle and driving habits. The wheels and tires are catered more towards roads than off road. That’s where I primarily use it as I said, but it’s great having its capabilities for the times I hike or camp also. Toyota was smart making this model/package. Every model has a niche to cater towards every buyer, providing the same quality and power. Models cover those that are economically minded, luxury minded and off road minded.

You pretty much lost me the moment you said "utilitarian offroad vehicle"... reminds me of the people who argue with me when I tell them that the 4th gen 4runners are better with the V8; no offense.
Look, I'm not buying this to offroad. I didn't offroad my 4th gen, 1st gen, or 2nd gen (too expensive in that case, tbh). Mine are spec'd to run the speed limit on fire roads around here. Yes, you can do that in a minivan just as well, but this is a bit more comfortable. Thank God for a/c seats!!
So why am I buying this? Because it's the last good toyota I'm able to get my hands on, that I know will still run the same way like I bought it -- twenty years and 240k miles down the road, with a relatively high resale value.
How many 2005 Pathfinders do you see on the road? There's virtually none here in Idaho... But I don't have to drive more than a mile to see two or more 4th gen 4Runners.

I like the look of the limited. I'm definitely getting a Toyota SUV. I don't need a third row and I want the somewhat luxury of the 4Runner limited. Now that the highlander went with that 2.4 Turbo it is a tough choice. That 17mpg around town is a bummer. I'll say this; I have a Subaru Impreza and I only get 25mpg around town now I do get an unheard of 40mpg highway. I have had several problems with my Subaru maybe that's why the reliability makes this attractive as well.

Interesting take: Why do you own a 90-100K Land Cruiser when you could have purchased an LX570 that does the same, if not better? I suspect the reason is price and preference. Are you going to trade your existing LC for the stripped-down new gen LC. because it's new and there are several trim levels you can choose? Or have you gotten used to the luxury you've experienced in your LC and can't see yourself settling for less?
Regarding the 4Runner: I suspect the Limited is in place because there is a market for it. Some people want the luxury it provides without forfeiting the reliability, ruggedness or resale of a body-on-frame SUV the 4Runner is renown for.

I had one in 1999. A Limited and it was truly a great vehicle. I think I'm finally pushing towards getting the 4Runner. Even the deals are so much better. Haha, for me limited is the only 4Runner I wanna drive now! I had TRD offroad and as we speak I am trading in my limited night shade in and getting 2024 limited. Why? It is so simple, if you drive a lot, which I do on rough roads, ice, lots of snow, all time 4x4 is something that is just simply not matched by the other trims. I don’t give a f… about luxury features. That’s not a luxury, come on, all that wood like trims are ugly, chromes are terrible. But as I said, I don’t care, this is the tool I need. I honestly don’t understand why would 99.99 % of people any other trim than that? Let me rephrase what you said, it’s so silly to me, why would people buy 4Runner TRD pro? Why? 99.99 % of driving they covered is on paved roads? 😅

It isn't class leading in any measure, but it's one of the most collectible vehicles you can buy today, and relatively a bargain. 4R Limited owners need to try the 4R 4WD drivetrain, and the 4R 4WD owners need to try the 4R Limited drive train. And it helps to know what a 2nd Gen Tacoma V6 4WD drive train feels like. The 4WD models, in 2WD mode, have more response and can have their back ends broken loose just like the old 2nd Gen Tacoma- there is just more power (less power loss) and the throttle doesn't feel like it's nannied by giving the driver a pre-defined, default input curve when suddenly demanding acceleration. The Limited AWD drivetrain- it's absolutely great, but the throttle response when flooring it from stop feels like Toyota is only allowing you to first accelerate conservatively slow and then ramps up to give adequate acceleration to whatever desired speed. I can some times trick the Limited AWD by slowing it to almost-stopped, then flooring it- and then the Limited model shows off what it's actually capable of since it delivers all the power all at once.
I encourage 4R enthusiasts to try out both!

Here's my thing....and Toyota hasn't addressed "me" as a customer in their packages/trims.
They ONLY put in certain luxury features on their Limited trims....like ventilated seats, memory seats, dual air controls, full 4WD, etc.... the RAV does this too for the features it offers....and one NO OTHER TRIM.
I like the sportier models and looks...and I agree with Ben on the rationale of Limited....in MY opinion.... WHY can't they just offer some of these "luxury" options on the upper trims? Makes no sense to me that I can go ALL OUT on a TRD Pro and not get some of these features.
They are addressing most of this in the revamps...so I guess I shouldn't be complaining about their offerings on a vehicle that hasn't changed in over a decade....but I did anyway.

I'd say the look is more timeless. The fact that it doesn't look 100% out of place on a model that is over 10 years old says something. It definitely doesn't look modern, but has aged very well. Look at any other manufacturers 10 year old model and compare to 4R.

The reviewer has an overly narrow perspective that clearly skews their perspective. Just because a vehicle is optimized for something you're not going to use it for doesn't mean it's not a great vehicle for that use.
If one can't understand the use case then one cannot objectively evaluate the model against said use case. And if one cannot perform an objective evaluation one shouldn't waste others time cluttering up the Internet.

two blanks under the gear shift are for the heated seats on the lower end models. this one has it different cause it has ventilated seats. Next to the left of the steering wheel one of those blanks is for power running boards which this does not have. and then under that, the last blank I know of I have no idea what its for.
