Yesss.... we were the groupies 🤣🤣🤣 and the cry to me voice on the charts were Steve Lonsdale produced by billy forest....thanks for keeping up the cry to me legacy Steve Ashley
Worked with Steve Lonsdale at Felstar Publishers way back and helped write the lyrics for a song the staccatos were doing for a film, The Second Sin (if a fading memory serves). The film was pretty poor and the song not much better, but the Staccatos pulled their magic and turned the song around.
A primary school friend of mine who i coaxed into playing the guitar, his mom actually bought our instruments at a bicycle shop in jules street in Malvern where we grew up actually played bass for a stint in this group. He was on bass on Cinnamon Girl. His name, Andre' van Zyl. I believe he passed away in 2012. He was 7 days older than me. Born in 48. Would have been 76 on the 15th April 2024. Fond memories if our early days trying to learn by ear at every Shadows single that was released. We had a few appearences on stage with the Gladiators. We were 15 at the time. I was on lead and he played rythm.
Hi Dean, I had a friend who was a friend of the band and I booked them for our matric dance. They were by far the best rock band in South Africa at the time. It was a fabulous occasion!
I don't mean to me rude but can someone tell me when did Steve Ashley become part of the Staccatos because I have their original albums and he is not on them and no mention either.
never heard "Cry to Me"...but "Half Past Midnight" is as great a song as any....those harmonies "stack up" against ANY of the vocal bands of that time (or any other....)....
This is the best song ever recorded, nobody can sing it like Steve Ashley accompanied by The Staccatos. ❤️
1969, at the Ilikai club in van der Walt Street, Pretoria, saw these guys on a Saturday afternoon. They were smokin!!.
Nobody can do Cry to me like Steve Lonsdale did. As a teenager I was so in love with him!!
Most defintely.
Sosem hallottam róluk, de aki küldte nekem az első videót, annak nagyon köszönöm. Szivessen meghallatnék egy teljes koncertet.

Miraculously 💋💋💋
Rather disappointing that Steve Lonsdale is not given a mention or credit for his performance in "Cry to me" or his time with the band.
Steve Lonsdale did the lead vocals on the original "Cry to me". Fantastic voice.
I agree
Steve Lonsdale was also a talent behind the band
Where is he today?

He made The Staccatoes. His voice was undeniably supurb,
The Staccattos played at my Parktown Boys High Matric dance in 1968 and if I remember correctly played "Cry to me."

@@dlshaw51 Must have been with Steve Lonsdale.
Hi Dean and Dennis, spot on, they played at our Parktown Boys’ High Matric dance in 1968.
❤

That's my point.
Steward & Lloyds club in Vereeniging 1969-1970?

You’re thinking of the Canadian Staccatos. This is about the South African Staccatos.
@@liampaniak9461 ah-hah! Something didn't seem right.....
@@jamesparker1063 do yourself a favor and listen to it
Are all the members of sticcatos still alive? The grey headed guy on the right...???
i REALLY don't think this is 100% correct. More a promotion for Ashley again unfortunately. They are too old now for this crap.
Others are enjoying the resurgence, let them be. You go Staccatos 👏
