It will be interesting to see how the trumpets, trombones and saxes all sound as an ensemble once all the instruments are completed. That might not be the main intent, but I'm looking for a more intimate big band sound (I realize that sounds a little strange) than I can currently get with anything available. I love the sound of this tenor sax and the trombone. I picked up the MusicalSampling legato saxes and think they sound great together, albeit the lack of versatility that is provided with this Straight Ahead set. Very much anticipating the coming attractions from these guys! Thank you for the video!
This is a nice demonstration. I like the non-legato playing most. One thing that made watching a bit difficult is that when I made my volume high enough to hear you voice clearly, the saxophone hurt my hears during its peaks.
Having used this library for a while now, I REALLY like how it plays, but I have some odd issues when trying to play repeated staccatistsimos within the legato articulation in Smart Delay. I could be completely wrong in how I am going about things, but it sounds like sometimes the staccatissimos use the same sample over and over again, even when I'm trying to ouerlap the notes. Had sort of the same issues with birth of the trumpet, where certain notes were the completely wrong note, but I still love how these libraries sound. I'd love to know if it's helpful to actually select the staccato articulations in smart delay compared to just playing them in. I love big band/jazz horn libraries way too much, and I'm curious if you've ever taken a look at 8dio's instruments before. I know they have some saxes, but I haven't been able to find a video that isn't the official walkthrough. But thanks so much for being descriptive about what you're about to do within the video before you do it. As I can't see, it's helpful to know what articulation is being played before it actually is. Great video as always though!
Nice review :) I have the full VSL saxophones library and even though it's a bit old and lacking more advanced features I think it has a more amiable sound quality to my ears. This I think might be good for something like a Mario Kart 8-style track where the sax has to be bright enough to scream out over the drums and orchestra. For the classic, velvety jazz sound though I just can't let go of my VSL hehe
Hey, thanks for showing the plugin! By the way, you seemed really impressed with Birth of the Trumpet in an earlier video, but I'm not sensing quite as much enthusiasm from you this time - do you feel the trumpet is a better plugin, or am I misinterpreting? Keep it up!
Hey there, my pleasure! Haha I was honestly really blown away by the technology in BoTT, so naturally its worn off a little bit since then, but I still really enjoy this instrument! I've also had a couple little bugs with the articulations as you saw in this video that I didn't quite have in BoTT, but it's not a dealbreaker at all.
@@ChristopherSiu Thanks for the info! Yeah, I think it would be nice if the scoops in particular could be adjusted a bit. I guess one could bounce the audio and fiddle with the waveform, but that's a bit laborious and I don't know how that would even sound.
Yep, the scoop articulation is problematic. Makes the sax sound out of tune (or drunk). The Trumpet has a few articulation bugs as well. On some projects, I end up duplicating the sax track, keeping the second one without the delay. Cut a note here and there on the 1st track, then a few on the 2nd, and syncronize both tracks. Gets a little tedious.
Thank you Chris for this!
I was waiting for your review since the day it went out.
My pleasure Jake! Thanks for watching :)

Can’t wait for them all to be released, absolutely!

Cheers man! I apologize for the volume imbalance.
Hi, how well does Tenor Colossus work with
Akai Ewi 5000, are they compatible?
Thanks

Thank you Mitchell! More to come :) I haven’t used any 8dio libs before.

Can't resist that good ol' MK8 XD
@@ChristopherSiu Hard to deny it's one of the most influential uses of a sax in modern media, haha
Nice!
Cheers!

Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
