"Clear Intention of Ethnic Cleansing": Holocaust Scholar Omer Bartov Warns of Genocide in Gaza

- Israeli American scholar Omer Bartov, one of the world's leading experts on the Holocaust, says Israel's brutal assault on the Gaza Strip is at risk of becoming a genocide. The monthlong air and ground war has killed more than 11,000 Palestinians in the besieged enclave, a majority of them women and children. Israel has also severely limited the movement of food, water, fuel, medicine and other essentials into Gaza. Bartov says the disproportionate killing of civilians by Israel, as well as dehumanizing statements by Israeli leaders and suggestions of mass expulsion, are of grave concern. He recently joined hundreds of lawyers and academics in signing an open letter warning about Israel's violations of international law in Gaza. "There is an indication that there are war crimes happening in Gaza, potentially also crimes against humanity," says Bartov. "If this so-called operation continues, that may become ethnic cleansing … and that may become genocide."

100,000 people in Toronto yesterday ,biggest protest yet, and we are certainly hoping that they will just keep getting bigger. Considering many of us believe that the Nov 7 attack was a false flag by Israel, I couldnt help wonder if Israel planned to do it at this time when they know it will be getting much colder in many western countries like the USA or here in Canada especially ,so that the protests may be hindered by weather conditions. They must be aware that people rising up, mostly at the organized protests,are their biggest threat. It seems to me it was a similar situation when the COVID lockdowns started which was also late in the fall. Then when the protests started getting out of hand the whole George Floyd thing just seemed to happen,and then there were BLM protests all over the place which totally overshadowed the lockdown protests in North America which was becoming a problem for them

How is it possible to forget that Palestinians are human beings whose ancestors were expelled from their land in refugee camps where they would remain? Though what Hamas did is inhuman and unforgivable, and it must be condemned. Nonetheless, people should bear in mind that there is a background that does not justify what Hamas has done but it does explain it, and it's important to keep that background in mind.
That it was the IDF who assassinated most of the Israelis Hamas tried to take hostage in October? Or that Hamas was created and urged and infiltrated and funded and controlled by Netenyahu (by his own admission), Mossad and CIA? Well, the thing is all of this has a root cause, and it's the occupation of illegal occupation and apartheid. You do so much evil for decades against people. Just to play devil's advocate, though: the thing you left out was "justice". I think justice is an overrated thing, but most people think violence for a just cause is often acceptable, including some people who justify the violence on both sides of this conflict in that way. It’s a common theme for IDF veterans to end up being against the Isreali government. Honestly the first day I saw those bombs hitting I was surprised there was not 10k dead. Certainly a lot of people are dying but when you look at Gaza, and how crowded it is, there is a clear will from Israel to minimize civilian casualties especially when you see they can drop upwards of 200 bombs a day.
I think if they wanted to commit a genocide the 2 million gazans would have been dead in a week, the land completely flattened and ready for reconstruction. It's not what's happening though...

The beauty of being an American is the ability for us to speak our minds and choose what we want to believe in. But all politics set to the side, this conflict arose and started from the act of Hamas coming into Israel and killing, raping and capturing hostages. I have been having nightmares because of this. It has affected my sleep. I can’t imagine what everyone else who are in the war are going through. But Israel has a responsibility to protect their people. They have the right to exercise their right just like America has been doing for x years.

This is what happens when a person hold on to power for far too long. I grew up in a dictatorship atmosphere before I immigrated to the States. Looking at the video, I recalled the US attacks of many cities in Japan during WWII. They killed hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens, in particular women, children and old people because young men had already left for battlefields. They first set fire around Tokyo to not enable people to run from city center and bombarded killing over 100,000 in just one night. They did the same things in other big cities, such as Osaka, Fukuoka, Sendai, etc., in addition to two atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing more than 200,000 people in just a few seconds. They can never justify the use of atomic bombs and what they did against Japanese people. They are now teaching Israel to do the same.

Most of us can imagine what it like there. But some people are confused too. Looking at the people fleeing to the other side they noticed they looked clean and well dressed. They don't understand those people were living.a normal life before Oct 7th. They had beautiful sceneries and they could go to the Mediterranean sea.
