This loos a good and simple quarter sawing technique, and of course the quarter sawn timber is much less prone to cupping and warping, but as you say, most people would not know the difference today. Stay safe! Chris B.
For the appearance and stability. A flat sawn board shrinks across it's width, a quarter sawn board shrinks across it's thickness, which has very little effect. This makes it good lumber for doors and other items where expansion and contraction is bad.
That's the idea, any expansion and contraction is across it's thickness, vs it's width. So a perfectly quarter sawn board should just change in thickness slightly with any seasonal change without coping...with that said, wood is wood and just because a board came out of a log in a quarter sawn orientation does not mean it is going to be a "perfect" board.
yep almost half way done the year.. one more month.. pretty amazing its going so fast.. i hope everything is going ok... see you next time
It is nice to see how a log turns into usable wood. Interesting process.

Can’t wait for a new video on any of your channels. Love the content and Im a follower for years now ❤️
Wow. 👍 What a machine! May God continue to bless you & your family, young man.
Thanks for yet another awesome video. 😁👍
Great video! Love the building plans.
Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God Bless
Very, very cool!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Love your sawmill. I've been wondering about the big slabs you cut years prior. Can't wait to see what you make of them.
Sweet saw, beautiful. A good oil paint on the end will keep those boards from drying too fast and twisting. Nice work.
I coat the ends of my logs with Anchorseal, basically wax.
Nice video.Thank you for sharing your experiance.
Why quarter sawn ? Sure is beautiful. And what an awesome sawmill. Wow. 💪

Nice well done.
Loving the mill build how long before we get to see more of the build and the $9000 house ?
But other than maximum yield per tree, isn't quarter sawn more stable? Doesn't warp as much?

Does it prepare taxes too?
What is the cost of the tractor and sawmill?
I bought the tractor used, it was $20,000. The mill was $60,000...the same mill is $84,000 now, only a few years later.
Both are perfect tools for your lifestyle and vocation. Great buys in my opinion.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 thanks! Love what you do! Have you considered livestreaming?
Just wondering, are you in Georgia? Accent sounds a bit like north GA.
I was thinking North Carolina.
Hang on !!! How old is this video, must be cracking on 2 years if not more. No new stuff ?
I just posted it.
Your problem is, you have too many fingers into too many pies. There is only one of you doing too much.
It's my handicap.
