  • Processional on The Sunday of the Passion ("Palm Sunday") at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City on April 17, 2011. The structure of this part is as follows:
Choral Antiphon, "Hosanna to the Son of David" by Thomas Weelkes
    The Opening Collect
The Gospel of the Palms (Matthew 21:1-11)
    The Blessing of the Palms
The Processional Hymn: "All Glory, Laud, and Honor", #154 in the Hymnal 1982
    The Collect of the Day
The hymn "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" was originally written in LATIN ("Gloria, laus et honor") by Théodulph of Orléans in the 9th century. This ENGLISH translation is by John Mason Neale from around the 19th century. The tune, 'Valet will ich dir geben', itself a GERMAN chorale, was written by Melchior Teschner in the 17th century, and harmonized by William Henry Monk in the 19th century. The hymn is known in SPANISH as "Honor, loor, y gloria", and appears with a different tune in the SWEDISH Hymnal as "Dig vi lovsjunger, ärar".
When you sing this hymn, consider the fact that you're singing a millennium-old poem about a now-2,000-year-old story, that has passed through CATHOLIC, LUTHERAN, and ANGLICAN hands, and is still sung by these, along with PRESBYTERIANS, METHODISTS, LATTER-DAY-SAINTS, and many other Christians. It is truly a part of the Universal Church, a witness that we need not be one physical entity to still be one spiritual body in Christ.

Impeccable a choir and congregation of a church where I worshipped whenever I visited Manhattan. It was across the street from an hotel where I lodged. Saint Bartholomew's has gloriously retained its a fullness of liturgy. Here it is, I've advanced in years while Saint Bartholomew's is still young in its spirit. HOSANNA!

DAMN! I wish my church would do this again. We did a very long time ago but we have lost our traditions and now we have a band with guitars and do happy clappy stuff
