When he entered school, he was already fluent in English, and began teaching the teachers! The greeters were amongst the weirdest things there (besides the unspeakably low privacy on every single bathroomstalls due to stupendously large gaps in the toilet door). And everybody comming through the door just knows that, and doesn't care for it either.

The workers really are scared of union representatives. One store was taking steps towards a union meeting, and was completely closed because of it. So, many workers have it in their head that if they spoke to a representative everyone could end up losing their jobs because of it.
As far as the “ open door policy” they would say management couldn’t retaliate if people express concerns. However, I’ve seen them pick people apart later, and fire them for meaningless stuff. Everyone knew that wasn’t what it was really about though. At two points during my career there they fired a large amount of people who were close to retirement for petty reasons.
I worked as an optician for a long time, and would not recommend it to anyone. It was underpaid, and I ended up personally screwed over so many times. Worked open to close, came in on days off, acted as manager whenever we were without one for up to six months at a time. I’m from a small group of towns with little employment opportunities. Eventually I quit and now drive a super far distance to work in a factory. I don’t regret it at all. Sorry to ramble I guess I just had some stuff to get out lol.

I find it incredible that they manage to convince even a single employee to be against unions. "Hey employees, you know what you don't want? To be part of a group that has the power to get you higher pay and more fair working conditions!". People don't make labor unions when they are happy with their pay and working conditions, and the only cons to a labor union are to the business and potentially its customers - none of the cons are for the employees. And if you are earning minimum wage and working dumb hours in unsafe conditions, you shouldn't really care if your employer makes less profit, or the customers end up paying more - the employer should make less profit or charge more for their product/service if they can't make that profit or charge the prices they do while not paying their employees properly, or making them work in bad conditions.

Yet it is such a complex thing, because lets say you get offered incentives to not join a union, that makes sense on the surface, the employers now have to compete with the union to provide better benefits independently. That's good, competition leading to more options. If the incentives are good enough the union dies and what is stopping them from reducing your benefits after the fact?
I personally think ideally it should be government enforcing minimum quality of employment but that is not the reality we live in. What is government supposed to be but a giant all encompassing union meant to look after its member's interests?

Wow, you've just earned yourself a promotion to manager!
Now your job is to build us soundproofing triangles and report any misbehaving associates to us.
The probationary period lasts two years and after that your pay might increase by 20c an hour.

k the whiplash woman is Melissa Ponzio, like a proper actress who has probably never worked for walmart before. she’s literally in an acting union and has benefited from that since she was doing old shitty walmart training videos to new shitty mtv shows. bonkers

As a union worker at UPS the most inconvenient rule I have to deal with are that I need to face ladders while going down them and maintain 3 points of contact, even on the 2 step "ladders" that go up to the walkway before the trailers. Which I get, it's a safety thing, I just kinda wish for something that small they'd just make steps so it doesn't qualify as a ladder and we can get through quicker. Other than that the only thing that kinda sucks sometimes is that I'm not allowed to work through my break.
So yeah, unions are soooooo baaaaaad for workers... Toooooootally not just Walmart trying to convince workers they don't need a union to protect them from Walmart exploiting them.

Yea, they just care about keeping it real more than getting mad views. The algorithm is one thing. But if they wanted fame, they would just go ahead and lose all the cute quirks for shock value and they're just not that type, as people. I mean you have like 50 Keemstars and only one Boy Boy. I'm sure they'll at least a little bit more general recognition soon enough though.

Last time I was in a Walmart it was during Christmas and I realized they had like their own radio station where instead of ads they cheerily suggested things to buy. I've experienced these before in other stores but for soem reason this felt more dystopian

Every job I've had started out with at least an hour or two talk about why unions are bad. "Because here at ________ we're a family, and families take care of each other. You wouldnt let some stranger interfer with your family would you?" Exact quote.

my favorite isle is always the mayo isle. so many different types and brands to choose from. its almost overwhelming, but then I remember that once i get even just one mayo my life will be better. So i just grab one and drink it and that usually helps with the unioncidal thoughts i get.

Most people are just introverts around strangers so a greeter is the dumbest idea, so many of my customers just avoid making eye contact or any interaction with me at the door 😂It's also so awkward to say hello and get no response, almost every single staff member avoids doing it at all costs. But hey I guess I get paid to do nothing for the time being. I only greet customers when my boss is around, but just stand there, smile at people, and daydream when she isn't looking 😂

    • @Boy_Boy
      @Boy_Boy  3 года назад +8

I totally feel this, I've been a greeter at previous jobs too.
I definitely get the vibe that most people don't want to be greeted. I think I'd rather be doing any other job in the store though, time goes by soooooo slowly when you're just standing there at the door.

Not even a few months ago I was forced to do death by power point at my shitty ghetto convenience store job.
“Unions r bad n stuff!” I barely absorbed any of the information and used common sense.
It’s insane how these companies describe themselves as friendly but in all reality they don’t offer even reasonable accommodation or opportunity for raises. To them a raise is 25-50 cents every year or whatever. While my store has no ‘cult leader’ the individuals are often very full of themselves making a sort of localized cult. It’s a weird feeling to describe and they often have unrealistic expectations for new workers. As if by day 5 I should know the store better than I know every nook and cranny of my body. Truly machine like.
