This is a very interesting discovery by the players, the whole glitch would be solved by some "if statements" or "catch() and throw() for exceptions" being implemented in the game's code, but I think the developers won't give a damn about the game anymore since it has become an old game.
Catch and throws won't do shit as they are meant to catch execution errors, which is not in the case of glitches. Those will only solve crashes to desktop, and by solving it just means hiding the error from the players. This is more of a asynchronous input race condition.
@@alan133 Oh that actually makes a lot of sense, 2 inputs may give an improper output, which is the case here. Thanks for taking the time to clarify things for me kind stranger, much love

I find that any game where I have to control the character's aim and the movement at the same time is a lot more comfortable to play with keyboard and mouse. Unless this works radically different from DSR on Switch, shouldn't even need 2 inputs, the input window is generous enough that you'll get it down in no time flat with just the controller if set up properly. EDIT - Yeah this is pretty much exactly what I remembered having to learn for Switch, lol. EDIT 2 - In case it wasn't clear with quantity using - it will use the ENTIRE STACK of the item that you have in your inventory. Put any spares into the Bottomless Box to ensure they don't get used.
Whats interesting is that i never knew another game had this menu swap or "prompt" glitch till this very moment. (Other than the 2 mentioned below, i do know of the ds1 weapon art swap though and dragon head nerfed and fat roll souls) Theres a similar glitch for fable (1) anniversary. So it seems more games can utilize this menu swap glitch as well. Even Darksiders 2 had a menu swap glitch that allows for free items and infinite currency at a cost though with another type of merchant in the game and an important item being duped too much will break progression in the game.
Of course for each game I would assume the underlying mechanics of making this work might be slightly different, but you are probably right that perhaps more ports need to examine the duality of controller and mouse plus keyboard!
1:230 welll it is simple. They must doing like X-Y to alculate how many item you left as result but because of Y is a negative value with that exploit now it become X-(-Y) and that mean X+Y Soo you just add into it when trying to subtract XD
Finally... I got the info I needed. Never have I ever seen anyone say that loading screens are how the runners get their 99. Ive been trying to work out how to get the estus flask to be dropable to get a quantity menu up haha. Now the only info I need is how to get negative values on ps4 to dupe the twinkling titanite to get BKH +5 before sens gate skip, and I'm on my way to being the #1 dark souls runner on ps4!
“I’m not gonna use the infinite souls glitch. I’ll just kill the Gargoyles, unlock the shortcut, and, woah, hey there golden dude. Uh… I’ll be taking that ring. Oh, sweet, a bunch of humanity’s. I’ll just pop these… huh, wouldn’t it be funny if I killed that Black Knight? Yeah, that would be funny if I was good- oh shit I did it- OH SHIT I GOT THE GREAT SWORD- Uh… yo, Andre… you got some Arrows for me…?”
Hi, catalystz! I'm having big problems performing the prompt swap to purchase the negative sword (or really anything else). No matter how much I try to change timing I always get the same results: either the normal buying prompt on the arrow or the normal buying prompt on the sword, no overlapping ui... Any suggestions? Ps: I can dupe souls and humanity just fine
Hey TOP, if you are using controller plus mouse combination in DSR, that wouldn't work, as mouse + keyboard always takes priority and the two devices (controller and mouse) can't be used at the same time. You need to perform it on keyboard + mouse, or bind a keyboard button to your controller. Hope that helps! Sorry for the late reply.
I appreciate all the work you put into making this video, but even though (or maybe because) you went into so much detail, I still don't understand how it works. Isn't there a shorter step-by-step "how-to" video for a simple man like me? - Edit: I'm particularly interested in the "quantity using" part (duping souls).
I just do not understand why... Why do all these weird difficult glitches, just to avoid basically cheating, lol. If you can dupe everything and abuse these glitches, why not just start the game with max everything or play NG+ run? :/ You're not good at speedrunning dark souls when you do this, you're good at doing these glitches and play a bit of dark souls while doing so. Can't believe you said the glitch has no down side, while I now look at the dark souls as just another glitch heavy run where you basically learn how to cheat without cheating instead of play the game. I'm glad they always have the no-major glitches...
Speaking of unpopular discoveries, when the "look down" method was discovered in Goldeneye (saving around a second per minute by increasing fps by looking at the ground), it caused top speedrunners to stop playing the game.

Theres a similar glitch for fable (1) anniversary.
They must doing like X-Y to alculate how many item you left as result but because of Y is a negative value with that exploit now it become X-(-Y) and that mean X+Y
Soo you just add into it when trying to subtract XD
Yo your awesome thank you for contributing so much to the community
Awesome content! I wonder how many secrets still will be revealed in Dark Souls!
really fun to discovery how the glitches works from the inside perspective, great video
love this kind of video ^^
All your videos are so enjoyable!
Does the man himself say hi 👋
Hi!
Cata streams a lot too so if you want to watch him run be sure to watch there mans is beastly at the game
Yeah, that would be funny if I was good- oh shit I did it-
OH SHIT I GOT THE GREAT SWORD-
Uh… yo, Andre… you got some Arrows for me…?”
Lol its like dying light glitch same 5:08🤔
edit: they are all the same almost from dying light mechanics with glitches 😬😬
Your editing is so solid, I love these videos!
@@catalystz Thanks, It really helped a lot. I ended up using only mouse and keyboard pressing left click and E at the same time. Have a nice one!
I appreciate all the work you put into making this video, but even though (or maybe because) you went into so much detail, I still don't understand how it works. Isn't there a shorter step-by-step "how-to" video for a simple man like me? - Edit: I'm particularly interested in the "quantity using" part (duping souls).
You might be one of my favorite speedruners period not just dark souls, the commitment to everything is amazing. Much love cata
So glad I finished the game first before trying soul dupe glitch it ruins the game if your new but it also lets everyone be a dark souls god
halfway through the last part of the video, i realise that the WRs are actually HIS XD
Is that Super Meat Boy music in the background?
Speaking of unpopular discoveries, when the "look down" method was discovered in Goldeneye (saving around a second per minute by increasing fps by looking at the ground), it caused top speedrunners to stop playing the game.
I love how dude speak ‘bout records and it’s alawys his own records
Absolutely adore cata’s way of talking to me like I know absolutely nothing but not making me feel like an idiot. Masterful teaching, and one of the absolute best dark souls RUclipsrs/streamers out there
