Hi Salem Its BeaverNZ from I forge iron I made a couple of comments on that forum while you were rebuliding that Beaudry that hammer runs really nice congrats Cheers
That's pretty cool, I always wanted to take a power pony for threading pipe and rig it up but I'd probably have to take a 2-inch die and rig up for pipe wrench Jaws on it or something
Salem - you're just impressive!!! I can see why I don't try any pattern welded stuff. Without power hammer or press - just too much hammering for an old man {g}
It will be interesting to see if the gear and motor can handle the heat because of the direct drive. I would have considered a chain drive to isolate the motor and gear case from the square chuck.
Great commentary - context is everything ! 4:10 "...cast with birthday crayons". Candles or crayon ? All birthday candles I've seen are twisted on the outside - do you think that would matter ?
Wow, didn't catch that one! Candles, and the ones I used were twisted on the outside. I actually used them to see if they would promote a spiraling action to the flame, and maybe provide some benefit. Can't say they seem any different than straight really, in use... but they worked fine, and yield a bit smaller of a hole than crayons. I wanted to increase pressure at the cast block to discourage burnback, and this in combination with a strong blower seem to work very well.
They always need a little grinding on the surfaces before welding back together, these ones didn't need a whole lot though. Just about .020" deep or so.
I hope you continue to make videos like these, they are really cool to watch.

In use it doesn't build up much back into the motor shaft. Just twisted up four bars today...
That is really cool.
Good idea! A rigid pipe threader might work for twisting also.
Thumb screws for the bolts on the head and tail stocks - sure, quick and easy.....
Great commentary - context is everything !

did you need to grind out any cold shuts?

Probably good you’re twisting that bar that you show at 0.42 seconds. The end grain looks like a swastika lol
Swastika damascus = not cool, for sure.
