Hey please share your AF settings for this shoot..my R5 isn't focusing correctly on my subject even on eye and face tracking it loses focus...yours is crispy sharp subject
Absolutely! If you’re coming from a DSLR if there is a slight learning curve, you’ll be so happy once you’ve learned it. Here’s a video on how I set up my focusing for the R5. ruclips.net/video/k2N7FKVKFYA/видео.html
please shre your Auto focus settings...my R5 losses focus when model or camera moves even slightly... it gives soft focus even after eye tracking is perfectly done.!
on the 120, I see frame drops. Since I know the R5 captures 120 @ 30fps, if you export it to a 24fps timeine, make sure you reduce the footage speed by 20% (24fps is 80% of 30fps)
Good call. I don’t think we did that. Technically the best way to view all of this would be exporting separately at their shot frame rates but that would be too many videos lol
I am a Panasonic GH5 user till date , though a great camera it has a very bad autofocus ,the way cannon locks to the subject is dope ! Does the eos R5 have IBIS and can it record to an external ssd ?
This was edited on a 2015 iMac Retina (maxxed) and we used proxies in FCPX to cut. The grading was done using the original media in FCPX with a combination of a Canon Log1 REC.709 LUT and some tweaking on the color wheels and curves. 🙂
A question for Vanessa or Rob Adams which I have not been able to find the answer anywhere, and I have searched for over an hour: does the R5 do live tracking autofocus (face/eye) while shooting video?
This might be a silly question and probably shows my misunderstanding but you shoot in all the various frame rates but when you edit and render the final video does that not create a video with one frame rate? If so how can one discern the differences? And then RUclips compression. Eeecks. I guess we are pixel peeping in a sense?

Great video - really highlights this camera in ACTUAL real-world use. I’ve also used it in my workflow without any overheating issues. I think you can make any camera underperform, or overheat, if you really want to, or use it in a way it wasn’t meant to be. I know I can always trust those who actually use the gear in the real world, and are familiar with it, rather than those who received an evaluation copy, and seem to be transfixed on breaking it or getting clicks. Vannessa, what frame rate was this video upload to RUclips at?
24
There's a lot of blurry footage in there. I'm watching the video in 4k and was expecting sharper video. Were you recording your video examples at f2?
the 28-70mm f2 is primarily at photo lens and due to its size there is very noticeable focus breathing especially at 120fps.
the videography results are really cool
I would just like to know how everyone feels about rumors of canon releasing a 90MP mirrorless right after the R5
MP dont matter that much. Cramming more in will just decrease dynamic range and low light performance.
