Sorry Dan, this is not 106th, but now the *119th* game you guys have beaten on the show. 😅
Also, HOLY SHIT I GOT A SHOUTOUT ON GRUMPS! WOOO!!
whoa, it's the person from the episode!!
I was hoping I’d find you in the comments
@@spacenerd1150 😁 here I am! lol
Hey Insane Ian! Thanks for keeping track
You've earned a sub for your amazing dedication
Dan before seeing the scary face: I guarantee it’s the dumbest, non-scary looking thing.
Dan, seeing the scary face: AAH!
i agree with his second sentiment
I was afraid of the skeletons in the first Zelda, so I get it
NOW there’s a Halloween mask! Oder today and give everybody nightmares! Even yourself!
Love these danny nostalgia games, I hope that Arin can choose some games (that they haven't already played obviously) that are nostalgic for him. Would be rad
So Megan x?
That's just megaman
Haha it's always nice seeing him so stoked. This game is basically retro Katana Zero without the time rewind and slick design
I definitely know the feeling, fond memories playing Descent at summer camp in the late 90s, or UMK3, seemed so high tech at the time
I would *love* to watch Dan play that Amazon game through like he did spacequest! I know it probably won’t happen, but with a manual it’d likely be pretty quick.
They'd have to get it for real though, or get a proper program for it.
I actually like when they have the game sounds turned up more.
yeah when theyre talking about music like this one it'd be nice to be able to actually hear it :C
Literally ever time they talk about game audio and it's like "okay then I'll just take your word for it." Rarely do the editors adjust it enough to actually hear without adjusting my volume.
The ongoing pretense that they aren’t using an emulator while showing the emulator screen is hilarious
I like how surprised Arin gets over how short these Arcade games were. People rarely spent hours on one Arcade machine.
Right? 40 minutes is a long time to stand in front of an arcade cabinet.
They didn't exactly expect us to play these games to see endings yeah. They were meant for short bursts before our ADHD kicked in and we went to play Pac-Man again.
@@angrytheclown801 Not even ADHD, I think it's more about the fact that those machines ate quarters like there was no tomorrow, and in 1987, no child would have more than a couple of bucks to spend at the arcade
I just played River City Girls and discovered that Arin and Dan have voice cameos in it
Everything about it is right up Arin's alley and with all the beat 'em ups they've played, I'm genuinely shocked that they haven't played it on the channel
Wait, really? Who did they play?
@@andrewpappas9311 No less than Jimmy and Bi(ll)y Lee, who run the Dragon Dojos. Arin and Ross are also both seen with sketchpads early in the game.
@@andrewpappas9311
Yeah they play the main characters from Double Dragon who are now NPCs you can buy new moves from in the game. Ross also voices a character that you meet later on and even JackSepticEye voices someone that gives you side-quests
That's awesome, I'll definitely have to look it up then. Thanks dudes
I have no earthly idea why they haven't played it on the show. NONE of them did! It makes no sense, because besides their voices, the game is legitimately good!
Daddy Mulk has some of the most kickass remixes on RUclips as well. One of my personal favorites is by Scream No Hito. Absolute banger. The technology that was on display in this game at the time was staggering. Not only was it a double-wide cabinet, but when the tanks show up, they fully rumbled the whole thing because the full size arcade setup had these insane subwoofers that emulation just does not do justice to.
Dan: "I love these games we play to completion!" *sigh* We do too, Dan... We do too.
When Power Hour comes back I hope Camilla appears in an episode, she sounds like a grade A pupper.
Ninjas: Immortal murder machines famed for taking leisurely strolls up the stairs.
I mean when you can murder indiscriminately they need a small break to enjoy their life a bit.
Dan: This is so fun, playing a game from my childhood with my best friend in the whole world
Arin: ... Why can't I do the jump flip?!
Danny, they've remade the Snes version, named now Ninja Warriors Once Again, for Switch and PS4.
It has CoOp
It has arcade OST (yes, it has Daddy Mulk)
Was about to comment this! Totally should play it I know Arin would love the animation side of it all too
You can get the OG arcade version of the game on Switch too!
I wish it was on PC 😭
I know that it's supposed to be short for "Co-Operative", but the way you typed it makes it look like that SpongeBob meme.
_"iT hAs CoOp"_
I first read that as 'school arcade memory' and a second before my smarter part of the brain could catch up I thought 'Your hebrew school had an arcade!?' The mind is dumb sometimes, but I figure it's still funny to share anyway lol.
I thought the same thing!
Thanks for sharing.
Now I really wanna see what a Hebrew school arcade would look like
Hebrew School Arcade, thanks that's my band name now
@@billycyrus6813 how anti-semitic of you
Kind of a wholesome co op episode. I like it when they play games Danny enjoys. I wish they’d give alien another shot just because he was enjoying it so much
I understand Dan's irrational fear of a weird video game villain. I was terrified of Ganon in the first two Zelda games, especially when you died in Link's Adventure because the screen would turn red with his black silhouette and you'd hear his evil laugh. Freaked me the fuck out. 😆
I was a neurotic child, so I was irrationally scared of NUMEROUS nonsensical things. The two that stick out in memory more than anything is the blobs from the first Dragon Quest and the dog from Duck Hunt LOL. I wish I was kidding.
@@perplexasaurusrex6217 damn idk about being neurotic but whenever I loaded up Diddy Kong Racing, seeing Wizpig’s face on the mountain scared me so much. I’d do everything I could to avoid having it in my screen so I’d always drive away from it.
@@ZchinoZ94 I just looked him up, that probably would have gotten me too LOL. Thank you for sharing.
To do the flip jump, you hold the attack button while jumping forward, or backward. Holding the attack button also lets you block. Works the same way in the SNES, and Ninja Saviors remaster.
I love these Retro Danny Nostalgia playthroughs! Shout out to the Route 22 reference from the Lehigh Valley! 🤘🥰
When you get damaged your metal endoskeleton gets revealed. That’s pretty sick, I didn’t think an older game like this would have that.
it's really incredible that the game grumps can run their entire show on an 8MHz Motorola MC868000 and still deliver quality content
Dan: *story about an old game that left an impression on him and means a lot to him and he enjoyed seeing it.
Arin: .....(I wish Dan would shut up so I can put the ninja game on...)
Yeah, that was kind of disappointing. I love hearing Dan getting excited about the games he remembers, and it just seems like Arin tried to rush him along.
"I'm the DJ Boy! I'm the one who SPINS!"
Nice
...
Dang. I'm too late
I love old school Dan games. There not something I would ever play but watching him play these and King's quest are some of my favourite play throughs.
Just the delivery of, "A REVORUTION CAME OUT!?" was hilarious
Dan is responsible for so much the music I've listened to over the last 6 years.
That's... positively encouraging. 👍🏻
Is that good or bad
@@zacharycapow8886 its great. I don't go out of my way to find new music usually but I want to, so this way I get to and don't have to myself!
I see where Arin is coming from, why make them ninjas when they aren't doing anything stealthy? They are walking straight, slowly, murdering everything like terminators on the loose, they could have made them look like anything else.
It was the 80s, everything was a ninja. It was either going to be a ninja, or a wisecracking anthropomorphic animal.
Hell, even GI Joe had a ninja for the good guys and a rival ninja for the bad guys... In a show about American commandos saving the world from domination. Nothing made sense in the 80s.
but ninjas are badass
@@heyitsjustaz or both
I really hope they would play the remake ninja warriros once again, it's the snes version but everything is remade, with 2 new characters, and the arcade ost is included!
I’m amazed for how long they’ve existed and how many people are involved that they can’t have someone pre-test games and make sure they can actually do anything for the games they want to play. Instead we have Arin continuing to assert (almost as a tired gag) that they aren’t using emulators, confused why nothing works because he doesn’t know how to set them up, doesn’t have someone help or hire someone who does know how to set up an emulator.
So a typical game grumps episode, basically. 10/10!
106 games played to the credits is fewer than I would have guessed! Good job adding another one to the list, Grumps. This was a fun episode.
Actually, between the time I told them and the time this aired, this game makes it 119. 😅
20:30 dan, I think the word your looking for that most controllers have is...."Diagonal"
This was fun, it's nice seeing Dan get to relive those nostalgic moments
Micheal Crichton makes Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park makes Steven Spielberg. Steven Spielberg makes Franchise. Franchise destroys itself.
Micheal Crichton makes Amazon. Amazon makes Jeff Bezos...
This is a Chaos Theory.
Jeff Bezos burns Amazon... global warming inherits the Earth.
I created a fart. Fart smelly. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
Level one: running through an abandoned cityscape fighting soldiers who may have contracted a handful of ninjas as mercenaries. Weird, I grant, but not that strange.
Level two: fight your way through a dog kennel guarded by military men with a tank, as well as a fire breathing Kabuki Oni thing. Uhhhhh...
You ever play a video game before?
@@Top10WizardReviews Admittedly, not too many older, arcade style ones. By the time I was old enough to even be attempting that, arcades were kind of a dying business. Closest thing to that level of absurdity, I guess, was Spyro & Crash.
Hearing Danny talk about Bowcraft blows my mind, I used to go there all the time as a kid !! rip
dan: your imagination is just off the charts at that age
also dan: LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS STEGOSAUROUS
the thing that scares dan as child looks exactly like Arin in that 10 minute power hour with the white face and black color teeth thing
Lmao yeah, I can see that
Danny: I think it’s some kind of diplomat.
Arin: Maybe they are evil?
“The Grumps Assassinate the President.”
*It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia music*
The Revorution will be televized
So fun to see them have fun playing a game to completion! Love these boys!
So the secret to beating ninjas is to swing around a ball and chain around recklessly until they throw themselves into it and die.
I'm gonna tell my kids this was Mega Man and Zero.
"is that a guy or a girl?"
We take you to the distant future of one year before I was born.
Danny making mention of Slush Puppies made my nostalgia detector explode.
I see other lovelies giving tips about how the Grumps can get around emu glitches, but also, it can't be helped that there's something truly hilarious about the struggle.
I know, right. When Dan typed "l" and it went straight to "game over", I was like "Geez, games really were harder back then."
This game's snes version also has a "Wild Guns Reloaded"-style re-release on current consoles with enhanced visual effects, highly recommend it
To be fair, that African mask would have given me nightmares at 5 years old. Yep, sleeping in my parent's bed for sure.
Thanks to Dan I have obsessed over Daddy Mulk. Love it!
Yes, Dan. I would like an Amazon playthrough please. I played that game alot when I was a kid :D
I’ve never seen this game before! I also had no clue there was an arcade on Route 22 and I basically lived there because of the guitar center haha
Dan's reaction to the scary face in Amazon is exactly what happened to me with Injun Joe from 'The Adventures of Mark Twain'. I saw that face in my nightmares for a good decade, fully forgot where it was from originally, and then one day aged 35, watching the movie... 'Oh fuck, that's the face!!!'
The arcade version of this was so fun.
9:30 the video is just called "The Ninja Warriors: 'Daddy Mulk'" and the performing band is Zuntata
Dan: Because you're 5 and your imagination is just running wild
Me, with Aphantasia all my life: *dies inside*
Another person with Aphantasia! I'm not alone after all.
29:00 - “Oh, _this_ f***in’ guy... _AND_ THE ROBO-GUYS!?”
What fucked me up as a kid was the old school animated Grinch smiling.
what a fucking unique kusari-gama that one guy has.. a spikeball flail at one end and a fucking.. double-kama with one blade reversed AND a pike-spike on top...
arin making a completely random fullmetal alchemist reference at about 15 minutes wasnt on my 2021 bingo list
Can we have another chill Dan only playthrough of a retro game please?
I'd love that too.
Arin getting pummeled by the ninjas while Dan walks away was really funny to me 😂
My absolute favorite game grumps uploads are the ones where danny shares with us all a really cool bit of nostalgia and arin gets to teach us an interesting fact about the game's history/development.. episodes like this just straight up enrich my soul lol
Arin you are correct but it was two CRT monitors one facing at you and one down inside the cabinet that was reflected on a mirror to give it a seamless effect which is very hard to get just right and that was only in the 6 player version
It would be great just for a few hours to go back to my childhood arcade (which is now a Raymour & Flanigan). Was it the best arcade? No. Would it stack up to how I remember it? Probably not. But man, what I would give to go back there again.
ZUNTATA is so good! I discovered them while I was sick with COVID a couple years ago and saw someone play the maimai version of "DADDY MULK" on drums. I especially love their work in the Darius and Ray series. As for this game, not only is "DADDY MULK" a banger, but so is the second level song, "ARE YOU LADY?". I actually have the vinyl of this game's music.
One more thing: The Mega-CD version of this game has a prologue that's delightfully cheesy.
Stopped watching this 10 minutes in to check out that sick Daddy Mulk music video. Thx for the recommendation, Danny Ninja!
16:45 "in Daft Punk, i am Hohenheim"
yeah man, dropping some mad tunes while saving an entire continent from evil alchemy
Man it’s weird how we have those things as kids that scare us so much, I remember my sister showing me an old flash cartoon on albinoblacksheep, called fooflemoomps magical adventure or something? One of the little characters kills another with an axe and that haunted my dreams for months when I was like, 6
As a kid the MGM lion used to horrify me I would run out of the room crying😂😂
Oh, fekk yeah! Tell ya what man, I'm absolutely lovin the "Danny's nostalgia era". Keep it up!
Everyone run at them in a single file line, that’ll throw them off
I was really hoping dan would say "you did it Geico", again...
They could've repeated the the entire bit
"You kill dogs in this game"
Literally slaughtering 400 virtual humans and saying you're the bad guys because you can kill virtual dogs, I mean come on.
Dogs don't blow each other up.
That Amazon game brought to mind another game I played on one of our early computers. It was a game with a similar pink and blue aesthetic where you played as a detective. Anyone remember that game?
is it Super Sovlers?
@@lauramichelle6976 Yup, that's it! Thank you!
Also one called Sleuth.
Really lovin' the Mega Man X and Zero vibes from these robotic ninjas!
Oh my god, this was one of my favourite SNES games of all time. Like nobody ever seems to have heard of it, but I probably finished this game a good 40-50 times. So excited to watch Danny sigh nostalgically at it while Arin screeches in outrage.
.... oh, this isn't the SNES game. This is its horrifying baby photo.
For anyone wondering the snes and switch versions of this are straight beatem ups which to me are way better than this version. But im happy dan got to play another game from his child hood
Those are reboots of this one
@@DocDeeISC noted 👍
Your chance of survival in the Amazon minimal your chance of survival in the Ninja force *ZERO*
Wow, its awesome to hear you guys are bringing back the "10 minute power hour". Im so excited
*The Amazon jungle is known for it's African Tribes after all...*
Africamazon
We getting some "Daddy Mulk" (that's the song from the first stage) appreciation in here? I approve! :D
It's great when Danny goes old school and shows Arin these gems from the 80s
I wish they play the Ninja Warriors on switch. It's a remake of the SNES version but it's 2 player co-op and has new characters. I bet they would have an amazing time
Ninja and Danny flashbacks? This episode has Danny Sexbang written all over it.
Thank you, Danny! I find these particular plays comforting.
Pretty sure that the bad diplomat at the end is supposed to be Henry Kissinger so to answer Dan's question if you are the good guys or the bad guys, yes you are indeed the good guys.
28:52 - It's so funny how these enemies are just jumping into the wall.. LOL
I'm glad it finally happened on game grumps. I somehow gained a little closure to the fact 2019-2021 has felt the way it had.
Never saw the original Ninja Warriors before, though I remember playing a ton of the SNES sequel, the amazingly titled "NInja Warriors Again."
Ninja Warriors brings back great memories. I used to play this at Ballpark Lanes. It was the bowling alley directly across the street from Yankee Stadium.
Young Danny came back for us when he got scared by the same thing that scared him 30 yrs ago still scaring him now ❤️💯❤️💯
D A D D Y M U L K.
We did not came peace with immortal murders machines, but with the kill deaths stopped the revorution will be happen
"a bunch of Murder/Death/Kills"
Nice Demolition Man reference Danny boy!
👍🍻
Love the thumbnail! My dachshund turns 12 today!
Happy birthday to your old puppy!
@@BeaglzRok1 thank you!
i think I remember playing this game, I remember playing a 2d side scrolling ninja game that had really fluid combat animation with slow as sh*t ninjas, and the walking crouching slash was the ultimate maneuver.
I love the normal-ass security guards appearing in a puff of ninja smoke.
With the grumps playing so many beat'em'ups, I would love to see them play Battletoads Arcade.
I would love to see the Grumps play RAD. 15-30min per playthrough, Dan would probably love the 80's music and aesthetic, Arin would enjoy the gameplay until he gets pissed off.
Or just keep playing awesome old stuff like this.
What the hell, ANOTHER hella smooth animated early 90s game??
They really did the Goku-Geico joke again!
More of that childhood NJ nostalgia from Dan. Family and I used to go to Bowcraft all the time. I usually stayed away from the arcade, I went there to ride rides and play mini golf.
DUDE!! You guys SHOULD PLAY THE SIMPSON’S ARCADE!!! Talk ABOUT NOSTALGIA! 😍😍😍🙏🙏
