My Aussie’s cost from an organization that rescues Aussies, who are abandoned from owners who can’t handle them, was $250 adoption fee. She has been the most well behaved, loyal and gentle dog ever. Still walking the trails at almost 16 years of age.
Wow!!! 16!!! You are so lucky....they usually last 12-15 years. My aussie is 14 and got diagnosed w lymphoma. I was hoping she'd male it to, forever, we take her on hikes almost everyday and feed her raw...she looks like 5. Everyone thinks she's so young ....so I thought she'd last way longer. With The chemo she is on now, she prob will live another 1-2 years.
Great list and reminder to people BEFORE they bring a doggo into their life. One item I would add: Boarding! if you want to go on a long trip or somewhere where dogs aren't allowed, it is expensive with a reputable kennel.
Awww. They’re so cute, and no price is not worth them! Mine cost around 1800 plus a 200 fee to get on the wait list. Then whatever the food+toys+bed+crate+vet.
My Aussie just died recently. She was twelve and was very healthy, but she developed an aggressive cancer. It was too late by the time that we found out. This type of cancer is very hard to detect. Even if we had discovered the cancer earlier, according to the vet, there would have been very little to do. A friend located a year-old mini Aussie located several thousand miles away that needed to be rehomed. Evidently the owners like so many people weren't able to deal with an Aussie. My friend knew the dog breeder personally who had the dog returned. So I will soon be getting another Aussie who needs a home. Win'win for both of us despite our unfortunate situations.
25 years with aussies by my side… i have stopped counting in 1998… even had one on an experimental medication for Cushing disease… i will never disclosed the cost… i would be judged.. but that damn medication worked so well for a while… never ever regretted a buck spent on my dogs. But, one thing I know for sure, a good certified breeder is worth every dollar
I love it.. Indy was not feeling it today. Great side eye action little lady! And, we have two minis as well. I’ve lost count on the $$, but I guess I look at it this way- whatever the cost is worth it. They are our babies and we are here to give them all the adventures they can handle! 😊
I keep an excel spreadsheet of everything I spend on my Aussie every year. I'm curious to see what the grand total is at the end of his life! It averages out to about $2500-$3,000 per year to own and operate a dog. And I think I am somewhere in the middle. He gets groomed twice a year and I get him good food but, not the super expensive stuff.
In 2009, our first Aussie cost $450, though that was a half off discount because our daughter and the breeders daughter were best friends. Fast forward to 2020, and we paid $1500 each. Small price to pay for what you get in return. I just raked up leaves and had 2 huge piles, and my 2 Aussies were having more fun in them piles than any kids would.
My parents are buying us an Australian Shepard puppy for the family Christmas gift this year. Our border collie/German Shepard mix named Fonzie died this past April and it depressed the hell out of us. I'm still in mourning. I had Fonzie for half of my whole life. Now this Saturday we're going to drive 3 hours to pick up the puppy. I hope we can train him well.
So cute and agree on priceless part. It is good to split up costs so people new to getting a dog can get an idea. A lot of costs also vary on location and circumstances so people should really do their research. Would probably add to get the pup from a reputable breeder as there are many puppy mills out there doing unethical breeding which leads to serious problems which will catapult the medical costs in the long run and owners will also suffer to see their pup not being well. Prices here for aussies are quite high as they are very rare here, which is a good thing as it is hard for most people to raise them (very cramped space and less dog friendly places). Usually around 4000 USD upwards and often double this.
Aussies in K-W to Barrie Ontario area are about $600 to $1600. Generally $1200 to $1500 is the going breeder price from what I see. I can't say that the less expensive ones are less reputable. It's advisable to thoroughly check out "certifications". Some are great....some are not worth anything but they create an acronym just to pretend part of the game. It's your pup's health....and paying up front to eliminate potential costs for an extra 500 to 1k...is certainly cheaper in the long run and a better life for your pup. I have a friend's Aussie that is so special to me.....I'm on the hunt for my own.
My dogs have been adopted from private individuals and a couple from aussie rescue groups and the average adoption fee was around $300. One of my dogs was adopted from a animal shelter and by a weird culmination of timing they had several promos and discounts running and waived the neutering fee so by the time we left the shelter with him he cost us a grand total of $10. I didn't know it at the time but he became my forever dog. One of the best decisions and bargains of my life when I said Yes, let's get him.
My first Aussie in 1995 cost $400 in Connecticut. Lived 17 years. My second Aussie, a merle (more expensive) in 2020 cost $1000. My third Aussie black tri in 2021 cost $1000 (given $500 discount as I bought one a year before from same breeder). Covid drove up prices for everything.
I found my mini Aussie for 500 dollars! She was cheaper because she has an overbite which I think is adorable! So she was really cheap! And we have another type of dog so we had all of the stuff except certain collars and a bed!
Yup they cost a lot of $$$. $950 for ours $250 x2 within the first two months for the vet, shots and flea/tick. About $200 for stuff. Neuter bill will be around $500+ Did t fully think it through but we are here and gotta pay it. Food isn’t bad cause we get at Costco so about $60/month for food and treats.
Neuter $500+? do you live in a City with an Animal Services office? even here in Miami if you do it with the City County, it will cost you $40, and they did an excellent job on my friends dog (no scars).
Ours was $800....then he got Parvo after a few days with us. There's another $4800+. Lol. We have also paid over $1700 in trainers to help us manage him. Worth it, though.
We paid less than half what you paid for each of ours. When researching a breed, stay away from big city areas and go for more rural areas. Our stunning blue merle who everyone asks if she is a show dog was 600 bucks. We had to drive about 5 hours to get her but near the bigger cities one with her markings was about 2000. Find a rural breeder who genuinely loves the breed and not someone who is just cranking out puppies for cash.

I LOVE THIS. Well you’re officially a dog person.
There are many many many many more of you and I. Out there.

In August 2021, $3,800 CAD in Vancouver area. BUT, there were some on market for 2.5k and 3k.
Maybe Indy’s love coat something
Indy’s face: nope can’t afford it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My brothers corgi+Aussie mix was around $800 from my nana I can’t believe you got an Aussie for that price
2 Aussies for that cheap? I can't even buy 1 Australian person for that price, and I've tried my best
My aussie had a $650 rehoming fee. Best money I've ever spent
Indy's a tough read. Maybe a treat would soften her up.
We got ours from bc. Wouldn’t matter if it’s 20k. They are the best.

@@federicov362 , i'm in canada. the cost is actually the lowest around. lol. Vets are at a premium here and overcharge on everything.
Ours was $800....then he got Parvo after a few days with us. There's another $4800+. Lol. We have also paid over $1700 in trainers to help us manage him. Worth it, though.
They are so worth it
Joey, I bought an Aussie just because watching your channel and I paid 1400 for mine. She is only 18 weeks old and is learning a lot of tricks.
How do you prevent your aussies from getting fleas, i have one that has mostly black fur, and find it hard to even look for the fleas.
My little guy was 1600 but traveling brought it up to about 2500 plus all other expenses
We paid 2,500 to 2,800 for our 2. Depending on the pup.
The good thing is once youve bought most of those things you never have to pay for it again

I work at a pet store so I got my mini Aussie for $550 at 10 weeks
My 2 Aussies were free lmao
I bought my aussie in august this year in Sweden. 2500dollar
I really want one. My 16 year old aussie has been put down 4 yrs ago. I would like a rescue
Y’all crazy paying that much. Just adopted a 10 weeks old blue heeler/aussi Shepard mix for free. Just the cost of his shots.
Do you have a doggy’s health insurance?
Yes!
@@FrankieToTheMoon Would you recommend the insurance that also covers expensive treatments like surgeries?
Paid over 3000. But no regrets!
i got mine for $450 :)
You're not a true dog owner until you own 5+ different leashes and really only use 1 of them.
😂😂😂
Northern California male 3,500 for a pet …😢blues or green eyes more 😢 females more .. Female Merle so much more….
I got one for free and one for 600
