My second most pondered question in life, second only to "why are feathers so light?" Thank you for this, now I can focus 100% of my energy into discovering the reason feathers are light. The world will be appreciative.
Toho did bring up the Square Cube Law in Shin Godzilla. when Shin first appeared in the bay during its first form, the Japanese made an announcement saying there was no worry for the creature coming ashore because it would be too heavy to do so. suddenly, Shin did because its evolution created a way to do so. it's not because Toho is ignoring the Square Cube Law, it's because Kaiju bodies work much differently than our modern science can explain
We could potentially assume that Kiju bones work differently to the rest of the animal kingdom being much stronger pound for pound than and ordinary bone so rather than being denser they are strait up capable of greater compressive and tensile strength as a lot of Kiju are extremely old or live near the ocean floor it could be safe to assume they have incorporated massive quantities of strong metals into themselves to allow for such a large sizes
Nope. If Godzilla gets to have his weight calculated by volume, how come other kaiju don't? PR kaiju would be much heavier if this was done, as it should be.
Holy shit you murdered the "Square Cube Law". Doubling in size does not result in quadrupling weight, but octupling it. A 30 times taller mammoth with the same density would be 162000 tons.
The real question is why Ghidorah is so heavy in 2019. The stats from Monarch says he's 141,000 tons. Way heavier than godzilla even though it looks like he actually has less volume.
i love youtube, i am a writer and i just started making a story based off of monsters and to reach these sizes i actually got an excellent explanation here for one possible condition for allowing monsters to reach these impossible sizes.
The exponential increase of weight always made sense to me for one real world example...body building. I am a body builder, and currently I’m 6ft 232lbs, which is quite large for a fit figure. Then I look at individuals like the Mountain, at only 10 inches taller than I am, 6’10”, he is nearly 100lbs heavier than I am. That’s an enormous jump in weight for an individual less than a foot taller than me. So when I look at the big G, I can see how a near 400ft tall behemoth can weight nearly 100k tons
Great explanation and the scientific / mathematical formulas are interesting. Must mean the musculature must be amplified too or moving would be quite problematic or an enhanced metabolism and incredible food intake would be just as necessary to just support that kind of life...
It could be possible that those empty pockets are balloons to help support the massive weight of the creature by having them filled with lighter than air gasses reducing the quantity of muscles needed to move such a large creature
Actually the an elephant 30 times taller would be 27000 times larger than a normal sized one according to the square cube law because 30^3=27000 .so the correct mass of the elephant would be 30^3*6 or 30*30*30*6 tons or 162000 tons not as you have shown only 5400 tons .So, that means the 100 meter tall elephant is far heavier than any monster even king ghidorah .So,if anything godzilla is relatively lighter than what an animal of that size would be.
If he does have extra space in his body, then he would probably use that extra space to hold all of that radiation he absorbs. (Basically he'd have a bunch of space so he can really stock up on his atomic breath juice). Or..... something like that. It's kinda hard to explain, because I'm not a scientist with a PHD on Godzilla. Also he's huge
The problem here isn't a weight, because we can assume the he is built buy some special material, which can provide needed strength to his bones, but the problem is the gravity, basically because of his weight his fit must sing into the ground, like yours when you tried to walk on deep snow. You can walk, but it is very slow process in begin with. Same must go to Godzilla or any other kiju of his size and equal weight.
With the point of the imaginary 300 foot elephant, the equation you used for its volume/weight was 30 squared times 6, when it should be 30 *cubed* times 6, making the creature weight 162,000 tons rather than 5,400 tons. And with your estimate of the bone density being some 10-20 times bigger, the elephant would actually weigh from 1,620,000 tons to 3,240,000 tons. Epic video tho.
