    Tying a tv show to current events instantly dates it

      Yeah I can’t imagine what they would have done if it got renewed for a second season. I suppose it could have still worked, I mean all of Season 1 of Cheers was at the bar and while later seasons were mostly at the bar but did have some out of bar episodes and moments. My guess is they would have done the same whether filming inside character’s houses/apartments, maybe even go out in public but they all rejoice every night or call a weekly meeting that happens in each episode?
      I just can’t believe they’d keep the show filmed in Zoom/Teams to continue as a series without it getting cancelled in Season 2. Ignoring my personal opinion of the show, I think it’s safe to say Connecting probably had a limited Shelf Life even it wound up being a success in season 1.

      Probably why Murphy Brown did so poorly in syndication.

    I’d like to see you cover a show called Action. It was on FOX with Jay Mohr, Ileana Douglas, and Buddy Hackett. It was incredibly funny, but it suffered from being an HBO show on a network. It received rave reviews, had crisp writing and acting. It should have gone on a lot longer. Consider it brilliant but canceled.

      I discovered it late night on Comedy Central during college. Great show!

      "Action" is famous for being such a mean and realistic take on Hollywood, it turned off audiences. Another show to look at for that would be "The Famous Teddy Z", another short lived sitcom from the 80s starring Jon Cryer, which was so inside Hollywood, audiences didn't get it. Both where criticially acclaimed however. They even had a episode of "Action" where they named the Weinsteins on air and the main character calls them pigs out loud. They also had one where the main character walks on a guy with a prositute, with a leach around his neck, and he says "He works for Disney!"

    I wouldn't mind seeing your take on "The Dana Carvey Show." It was highly anticipated, but was doomed after the first sketch.

    This might be a case of hitting too close to home. Sometimes the viewing audience do not want to experience on television situations that are too similar to what they went through themselves.

    Funny how this series didn't make it, but across the pond Michael Sheen and David Tennant could make the concept work with Staged.

    • @shrillbert
      @shrillbert 2 года назад +2

      That's because the pandemic and the lockdowns only play a supporting role in Staged, with the main act being these two middle-aged theatre giants talking about their fictionalised lives and antics on stage and screen, which can work in any situation, pandemic or no. Here, the pandemic plays the leading role with complete unknowns playing the supporting parts, so this take on the concept was doomed from the start.

    I give the show a lot of credit for making use of a terrible situation in the world. It was a creative and well thought out idea but the premise got old and the humor just wasn’t funny at all IMO. I gotta say I am impressed (and incredibly thankful) regular TV and movie production was able to resume in a pretty reasonable time manner. Pro wrestling resumed despite other TV productions couldn’t (thankfully I’m a big fan, I get others aren’t) so there was little left to be desired except for “let’s watch TV with these celebrities” type of shows lol.
    Sorry for the cast and fans, but I won’t miss Connecting

    I remember The Graham Norton did a lot of "remote interviews" when things were rotten years back. "Connecting"? I've been ignoring network TV for a while, since most of the shows I was interested in got cancelled or "went on hiatus" and I lost interest. RUclips, "Premium cable TV" along with "Ethnic/subtitled foreign language TV" have kept me going.

  • @tristansanchez2875
    @tristansanchez2875 2 года назад +8

    Connecting was doomed as a lot of viewers did not want to see something that reminded them of what a lot of us have been doing since the beginning of the pandemic. Even the AT&T ads were better than this show.

  • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid

    I never heard of this show even when we were stuck at home but judging by the comments, I think this may be the first true 'worst' show you've done as very few people can really speak of anything positive they could have found from it. At least with the other shows of this series, people can bring up so-bad-they'yre-good moments or mention how many of these shows were underappreciated gems canceled too soon by networks who didn't know how to work with them. This show just seems to rub people the wrong way in every conceivable notion and I feel it all comes down to this show sticking people in front of obnoxious caricatures during a time where it felt there was no real release.
    I think the biggest crux of this show is more than it hitting 'too close to home' but rather who we have to spend our time with in that figurative 'home'. Had the characters been more likable and actually funny there would have been some real connection as well as escapism found in this but for the most part, lockdowns were VERY divisive with a lot of people losing their jobs due to certain places shuttering down so to see people like this on screen just sort of being more grating than funny?
    Yeaaaaaah, I can see why people are unrelenting in showing their disdain for this one.

    "The virus disrupted every aspect of life".. and you told the story right starting with that it all started on TV with people like that Robin woman.. I didn't know a single person with it from March to November 2020, then we all got it. But the TV host are accomplices bc they provided the scenes. Instead of defending the common man for not wearing a piece of cloth, they shamed them. Talk about week long theater. Lol. Sorry, I'll just never forgive these people for it. I figure my comment might be long but I'm paused on Pete Davidson on a zoom call.. the ones that they thought were better than real school and better than funerals.. bc not even those comedians could break the spell of fear that was casted over society.

      6:50 "I mean what falls apart next"
      And then at 7:00 inside his own house with a vote mask on yelling. It's just not fine prime time entertainment
      See, from the political lens they are trying to trick the viewer in oct 2020 that their country is in shambles. Most of our new shows were designed to propogandize. I'm gay so I get it.
