Great walk through and documented steps, Don! This will be helpful on any 3rd or 4th gen Silverado/GMC (K2 or T1) for various projects involving access to the rear of the headliner. Very creative thinking and I appreciate your sharing the thought process you use - quite helpful! Really good results! :)
What year is your elevation? I am also looking to add the camera mirror. But it was never an option on my truck so just trying to do some research on if it will work to add in
If you Browse for OEM GM Factory Upgrades, there is a Place in Ovedia, Fl. that carries a Factory Upgrade kit for this. I tried to reply to you last night with Company name and web address, But I don't think Don's Life wants me to post the name or website address. I checked back to see if there was any response and my reply was gone. Good Luck.
@markmanning5683 I didn’t block it or delete any responses. RUclips community safety features probably flagged it for review. I have to login on a desktop to see what’s there. I check it every few weeks.
Hi Don, great video as always but I was wondering how come you just didn't run the new brake light to the rear brake lights and run the wire under the bed rail and just disconnect the truck 3 rd brake light? Well great video, I really like the how to's.
My 2022 Denali does not have the camera mirror but I have been wanting to see if I can get one and wire it to a camera on the back of my camper. I am not interested in the see through setup but being able to use the rear view to see from the back of my camper would be awesome
Great Video as always Don. I do have a question though. Do they make a version that also has the cargo cam? I'll leave brand names out of this, but I've installed a T-Slot rail system for ladder/cargo racks. This had to be installed under the hard folding tonneau cover which was a dealer install. It's a REV but that's secretly a dealer-only sub brand of another popular manufacturer. Unfortunately now that the tonneau mounting rails sit about 1/4 inch higher, when the cover is folded all the way up against the back glass, it now rests right on the cameras. This not only risks breaking the cameras/brake light, but also completely blocks both cameras. I've added additional padding to address the contact issue, but so far, your mention of this camera seems to be the only thing out there to get some functionality back. If they have something for both it would be amazing. Thanks again for all you share with us!
Don, on the Wiring aspect, I have a question. For both Brake Light extension wire and the Camera wiring. could you drill out a hole on the Bottom of the Sport Bar Tube where it meets the EGR Cover and run the wires up to the Brake Light and New Camera location? If you are as OCD as I am when it comes to wiring, it would completely hide everything. I know it would involve drilling a extra hole into the Track mount (maybe), but once the Wires were in the Track slots, they could go into the box where the EGR rolls up into, then into the Cab. Just a thought. Take Care. Me.
I have contemplated it, but since this is a prototype sport bar and not the final version, I don’t want to make any alterations to the RollTrac itself if the final sport bar offers some solutions.
If I were to add this to a campershell, Is it quick disconnect or not? I cant seem to find the answer to that and I would like the idea of being able to convert my truck back and forth with the shell on and off.
As is it is not a quick connect setup, but I think if you contact the manufacturer they can suggest a solution to make it more plug and play. It is just a coaxial cable feed for the camera itself.
The camera looks good. It blends right in.

I think that new rearview mirror camera works better at night than the GM stock one.
My Elevation didn't come with the mirror camera, it was on constraint at the time, looking to retrofit one this spring my self!

No big deal, I wouldn't waste your time on it Don. Thanks for the response though.

I thought of every option but since I was running the camera wire to the same area it made sense to me to keep the wires together for this mod.
Very nice Don. I think I'd try to figure out a way to get that wire down through the box and more hidden versus having it coming out of the rack.
Great video as always
Thanks again!
Nice job 👍

There is a forum for topics like this that may help. I have included the link. www.at4forum.com/threads/adding-camera-for-front-and-side-view.189/
5:35 if you get a rubber band or clip, and attach the brake controller switch, it’ll activate the brake lights.
I didn’t think of that 🤦🏻♂️
Nice 👍🏻
Thanks ✌️

Do they make a switch for this that can be used to go between the factory camera and the new cam if you aren't running a cap?
I’s reach out to the manufacturer to confirm, but at the moment I am not aware of anything
@@Donslife thanks for asking.
Stay firsty my friends
In Canada they say at the beginning of a job "Crack Open a Cold One".
Is that rear dash cam cable in the area of the side impact airbags? That might become a whip and or camera projectile in an accident.

Did you put some foam or Styrofoam around the wires when you stuck them in a rack tube So they wouldn't rattleinside?
Not yet as I have a bunch of lighting to do for a couple more videos
Cool, nice, great videos.
Nice video and good job! Did you lose visible resolution with the replacement camera? I heard the oem is 4k.
It is a direct replacement and from what I know it supports the same resolution as the OEM one.
Your dash cam wire needs to be behind the airbag and not under it. I would redo that if I were you😉
Thanks, it is currently running alongside the camera and rear brake/cargo light harness.

No light actuator, no fun.
Some fun
