Detroit just bought some new trains from Toronto ❤ one day, I hope to come and see them in motion. I’m so happy that they will be here in service soon.

It is interesting that there are no provisions for expansion. Usually when transit project are built, they think about the next phase even if that phase never comes.

Supposedly they might be purchasing second hand vehicles from Toronto.

With a quarter mile or less between stations and the long stops at each, wouldn't it be faster to walk? (and I hope the woman coughing is wearing a mask)

Why the same door chime as the TTC?

I'm not sure but the people mover does use the same technology as the Scarborough Rapid Transit did so maybe it has something to do with that

@@AmyLExtraordinaire I was kind of thinking the same. Seeing your response I searched it up and apparently it was developed for the TTC by Granger Digital in Toronto in 2005. Even more curious now why its used on the People Mover.

The number of parking structures in downtown Detroit is staggering. It seems that most of the stations are attached to a parking garage. Was this a calculated move to make it easy for drivers to use the system or simply a coincidence?

It was in fact part of the consideration. The original plan for downtown people movers like Detroit's was to have drivers park on periphery of a downtown and use the people mover to get across the core. I'm not sure entirely how this is supposed to help the urban fabric except maybe alleviating traffic congestion in the downtown core? but even then you aren't reducing the amount of trips people take by car

    This stops every 100 ft?

    • @AmyLExtraordinaire

not quite, around 600 ft or more but yeah the stop spacing is tiny

Cool. Did Detroit have a plan to build a metro when the city was booming (close to 2 million citizens)?

Detroit has unfortunately had 6 failed attempts to build a metro of some sort
