Recreating The 303 Acid Pattern From Claustrophobic Sting By The Prodigy On Liam Howlett's TB-03

  • So I made this video during this global lock down. A perfect opportunity to distract myself from such troubled times. After previously making a video on Liam Howlett's original TB303, I thought I'd see how I could recreate the same acid break from Claustrophobic Sting, using Liam's Roland TB-03 Bass Line
    I think I've managed to create an easy step by step guide. Like the previous videos, I appreciate any positive, constructive comments regarding any mods or improvements to the pattern.
    For any new fans, the track.Claustrophobic Sting features on the 2nd album by The Prodgy, " Music For The Jilted Generation "
    This video was made for no profit, but simply made with a love for the beats.

    This video really helps to showcase what a pain in the ass it is to program a 303

      idk, you can get pretty quick with them after a while, but it is also the 'pain in the ass' programming that gives way to so many 'happy accident' acid lines haha

      @jammin023 3 года назад +40

      @@ColonelForkEyes Exactly. The whole thing about acid is that you don't really know what you're going to get until you hit play. It's a serendipity machine. It's only a pain if you're trying to copy a line you heard somewhere else... but it was interesting to see this anyway :)

      I know it is heresy, but I have really enjoyed the 3rd party options that have blown up around Behringers TD-3 Clone for editing over USB. I can have the same sound and in-show flexibility but upload an entire set's worth of patterns from scratch to ready in less than 5 minutes using a sequencer program and just sync over USB. And, it was only $130USD

    Sounds legit except for one little thing - When counting through the measure of the track the first downbeat is not on the highest note that the pattern starts with. The "one" is on a low note and the "two" is on the high note and since it's an eight note pattern, the same goes for downbeats three and four. So in order to synch this pattern to the original you have to start it on "two", not on "one"...

    I appreciate your job. I came across this video while trying to emulate the pattern by myself. However, the graphic may content a mistake in the steps tempo indication duration. If a black note fits in one step then a half note (or minim) needs 2 steps. The chart has 7 black notes and 1 half note, which adds up to 9 steps, but we only have 8 steps to fit in. Anyway, it helped me a lot.

      With this new version of the 303 you can back up all presets on a computer and reinstall if things go wrong

      @@jiltedgenerator that's a great feature. Lost everything from several synths over the years, it can be devastating to say the least. You seem to understand this gear well based on watching your vids. Would love to hear some of your own work.

    I've never really associated Prodigy with acid before. I would have said break beat techno but this is definitely an acid track.
    When I think of acid it's usually something like; Acid Junkies - 181, Mike Dearborn - Birds On E or Robert Armani - Spectacular. I'm even up for a bit of Woody McBride sometimes.
    Not sure if they're still uploaded here but Paul Birken had a couple of good live PA sets on youtube.

    I remember when i was like 10-11yrs and that intro with water and screaming kids made it the most uncomfortable song for next decade of my life . I love Prodigy but this song is not for everybody, I´m 32 now
