good tip on the timing, most guys think more timing more power, but you guys demonstrate the right way to tune timing...keep it up...no one make a video yet explaining how to tune the right way . a video with details on full tuning a 13b turbo rx7,,, it be something for first timers and the followers will watch, but I mean detail by detail explained....from the beginning all the way to dyno time....big fan of yours...keep it up. good work....thanks.

Thanks for sharing this great content. I'm curious, do you have the TDC offset angle table enabled? Without it there is the equivalent of 8 degrees mechanical advance using the S4/5 reluctor pickup with most aftermarket ECUs inc. Haltech. I've always wondered if that's where the "Rotaries like flat timing curves" comes from. Or if you have it enabled you've just proven they really do run well with a true flat timing curve on the RPM axis which is super interesting.

Very interesting video I have close to a stock RX7 turbo 2 with a racing beat exhaust and intake and then a Haltech PS1000 Plug and play which i tuned myself but left the timing map alone. Id love to start doing more with the car but dont know where to start id love to do LS1 style coils because sometimes i dont have spark when i got to start the car.
Anyway I think ill try your timing map trick b/c that base timing map Haltech has for the S4 rx7 looked alot like the one you showed first

I have following your page for quite a while now I am amazed at this rotary engine wish I had the funds picked one up myself to play with. I see the gauge on the dash of most of the cars that monitors the air fuel mixture constantly I love that where can I get one can you put a link or something I want one bad.

I approve of this method. I think I did the same thing to my starting harness on my FC like 13 years ago. Grounded out, caught fire and put it out with MTN Dew.

I don’t know a lot about much, but Wouldn’t that much tire rub effect numbers and tuning? Seems like the tires being a obviously massive drag would affect the tuning

I don't get it, the old map that was on it ramped from about 0 to 14 degrees of timing at 11 psi, the new "simple" map is at 18 degrees everywhere at 11 psi, so the timing is way advanced now, which is why it's making more power. Great, but how are you checking for engine knock?
It’s to decrease egts , the old map would make the turbo glow crazy

Small enrichment but it’s mostly due to the the exhaust being warmed up after pulls

what do you guys do with the split timing? Mike says to lower it as you lower leading, did he mean maintain the same split as you lower leading? I was under the impression the closer to 0 degrees split timing the more dangerous it becomes, but does make more power.

Don't like to be a fun sponge but instructing people to treat their 2-D timing table as 1-D ('linear' as you put it) is absolutely terrible advice. I'm sure that wasn't the intention but it is the way it came across. Under a WOT dyno pull you only tested one cell, maybe two cells per row/rpm max during a WOT run so the rest of the cells in the table could have been filled with garbage and it wouldn't have run any different during the pull. On the street it would drive like shit however. At partial throttle and varying loads you want a 2-D ('complex' as you put it) map like you had at the start, since it'll be exploring the rest of the map and different load/throttle/boost will demand different timing to be optimal. Unless you have nothing to work with and absolutely need to start from scratch, scaling the original map probably would have been wiser. Filling out the map in 1-dimension is only useful as a starting point (or for a dyno queen build...)
The whole point of the video is to teach people how to creat a timing base map , you missed the countless times I mentioned that this was just to get a car running smooth but it needs to be cleaned up like I was doing for 10 pulls thru the whole tuning session 👍🏾
@@angelmotorsports The way it was explained was 'if you over complicate a timing map it hurts more than anything' followed by singing the praises of making a 'linear' map and directly comparing it to the 'over complicated' as better after a single WOT run. If you're genuinely trying to teach people how to tune, this is not the correct way to present the info - you need to explain that the increase in power comes from increasing or decreasing the timing, not making a 1D map. Also for someone who hasn't messed with rotaries, some actual ballpark numbers to use.

Is timing much different for an N/A?
Definitely, you don't have a dramatic increase in air and fuel going into the engine from a turbo so the curve would be different but the overall theory would be similar.
