    If it was done at the dealer. It’s the new BMW green HT-12 coolant that they are putting in all BMW’s now. It’s Vavoline not Prestoneans is only sold in Europe or through BMW. This is a required service change as the new coolant will not allow electrolysis between dissimilar metals. The blue is the older type and isn’t as efficient as the new green. Just FYI, you did a service that wasn’t needed.

      Hi Mark Atanovich, It's nice to know that BMW now uses green coolant, But when I bought my car 2 years ago from a small used car dealer (NOT BMW Dealer) with all kinds of cars on the lot, out in the middle of nowhere.
      I have a doubt that this dealer will bother buying a real BMW coolant to put on my car, They just put anything they have that they can use on their cars (not BMW cars) .
      For peace of mind I've decided to replace it. But thanks for the info anyway.

Thats whie its good to split it with mixture of decalaminated whater.. 🤷‍♂️! You know what temperatures you have in your country and you make the math of how strong your coolant will be 🤷‍♂️! In France... From where i am extremly rare will descend at - 10. 12°..soo il split myself today allso the cooling fluid!

    unless you run the engine to temperature with the distilled water and have the heater on i don't think the bleed procedure would circulate into the heater core, so there was probably a fair bit of green coolant still in the heater.

    • @HighlyFavoredPyroAV
      @HighlyFavoredPyroAV 7 месяцев назад

      When you do the bleeding procedure, the temp gauge inside the car should be maxed out at 89°F or 28°C to open the heater core valve to get trapped air *if there is any* out of the whole cooling system, so im pretty positive he got all the green coolant out.

      true. it's called LC-18 which uses Si-OAT formulation. BMW uses Frostox HT-12 for LC-18 but it's equivalent to Glysantin G40 (VW G12++) and could be mixed with GG40 (VW G13). BMW LC-87 (blue) uses HOAT formulation Glysantin G48 (VW G11) but the newer LC-18 could be used as a replacement. what he drained is most likely LC-18

    I make prestone coolant it's much better than what in the BMW bottle. They just want you to buy thier stuff at a higher price....coloured coolants ie green ,pink are made the same just different dyes used. Prestone is far superior and guarantees 10years no other coolant has a guarantee. Just make sure to buy concentrate and dilute with distilled water.

    • @pdef1949
      @pdef1949 2 года назад

      I just looked this up online and checked the coolant I just purchased. It seems that Prestone coolant is now formulated for all cars, so no need to pay more for the BMW logo on the bottle.
      This is similar to the claim that only BMW transmission fluid can be used in older cars, which is false. At one time BMW used Esso LT71141 semi-synthetic ATF for it's anti-foaming properties. Valvoline came out with an ATF about 5-6 years later which is still made and is full synthetic. It costs about 1/6 the cost of the BMW ATF and is actually somewhat superior because of its full synthetic nature. Yes, it does need to be changed at about 80,000-100,000 miles vs the "lifetime" BMW fluid but ZF transmission experts say the BMW "lifetime" claim is not true. It will last about 150,000 miles before it deteriorates enough to cause slow but sure damage to the transmission.

I have watched a UK lad do this on a M240i and he went in from the right side wheel arch to get to what looks the same pipe you drained through. Now the M240i also has two coolant reservoirs, so not sure if this is the case on your car as well, so things may be slightly different, and it is why i'm asking.

    • @edcardiy
      @edcardiy  4 месяца назад +1

      The M240i have coolant to cool down charged air from the turbo, that is why it has 2 coolant reservoir, One reservoir to cool the engine and the other reservoir to cool down charged air from the turbo. If you want to know if there is another auxiliary radiator on the right side, Just peek from the front and see by the right side lower bumper grill if there is a radiator.
      My car intercooler is cooled by air so I don't have a 2nd coolant reservoir.

      @@edcardiy Don't know if you'll know answer for this, but the coolant in the main engine reservoir is yellowed, but appears green if light shone through at an angle. The coolant in the charged air system and intercooler is green like new (i got some from BMW yesterday for comparison). Is it likely the yellowed coolant is like this because it is as old as the car (5 years), or is more likely someone simply didn't flush enough before using non standard coolant in there which was yellow? FYI, the coolant is correct pH, looks completely clear and is free from milky colour, and has no bits or sediments in it. So on the surface i'm not thinking there is a serious problem. But am having the yellowed coolant changed for new by BMW tomorrow. Will obtain a sample and have it analysed as well for peace of mind. Oh, and the engine operating temp is typical during a decent drive.

    You are not using the coolant tester correctly. You are supposed to hold it 'level' with the small arrow pointing up to midnight, and then read the bigger lateral arrow which shows you what temperature your fluid will freeze. Should read 30'some sub zero at least.

    • @edcardiy
      @edcardiy  2 года назад +1

      Hi 31acruz, I'm not using the tester to test the coolant, I'm just showing the fluid inside my reservoir tank that the dealer put the wrong coolant in my car, The coolant should be blue instead of green, By the way thanks for noticing the tester.
