The threat assessment in this pod is *wild*. As a Lucea Kane main, leaving her alive with Twinning Staff on board for more than a turn cycle is essentially handing her pilot the game. She is a ‘kill on sight’ commander for sure. Mald, respect for the combo attempt. Brutal takedown at the very end there!
Yeah, Quincy going after Mald when Nerdgirl’s rocking the Magus/Twinning Staff and that much mana is dubious at the best of times, but at sub-25 life totals? I’ve seen soooo many games ended by a Magus pilot copying a big X damage to creatures + opponents, with their swing to finish off anyone still hanging on by a thread after that. With *two* copies of an X available? That’s the same as saying “I’m leaving the result of this game up to pure chance.” Of course Mald was kind of hamstrung by the unspoken “We don’t build to boardwipe when it won’t advance the game state in an interesting way” mores of EDH-for-content. A deck like his should always be armed with a few Reset Buttons to go back to the drawing board if the table outpaces him.
@@Shawn-f3x The amount of games I've won with Lucy K out of nowhere with Twinning Staff, Kiora's Follower etc is nuts. Doppelgang? Shivan Devastator? Crackle with Power? As soon as those spells drop with Lucy K and another copy-multiplier, the game is over. Getting to an 11 mana Crackle for 45 damage to each opponent with Lucy is easier than one thinks.
@@jeremyfoote2592 Yeah, Magus Lucy K was one of the three Commanders that made me stop building Mono Green decks all the time. Not having the spot removal to preempt a crazy turn pushed me into Selesnya. Which is cool. Never woulda found Arwen, Mortal Queen otherwise. Probably my favorite +1/+1 counters deck yet. Want to actually play Lucea Kane and Animar, but I’m obsessive about good mana bases because everyone at my LGS always has perfect mana bases.
@ Animar is in my 99, he’s an auto-add for curve and the deck already has a counters sub-theme with so many Ravenous Nids (though I dropped a few of them for more X spells so it’s more midrange value as opposed to pure stompy). The WL ratio in my pod with Lucy K is pretty lopsided compared to my other decks. Happy to share my decklist for inspiration!
You could feel the salt at the end. It did feel like Quincy kingmade not because of the last hit but because for multiple turns he attacked mostly Veggie and Mald even when NG became an obvious threat the effects kept going Mald's way instead of NG's. Tbh, NG won because everyone else ignored her and because Quincy gave her the win. Good game still, but let's not pretend the threat assessment and politics weren't all over the place. (Like a regular table lol)
Having music throughout gameplay is what every commander show needs to do, no mouth smacking or sniffing can be heard in between cards being played. Commentary thrown in every now and then is a good touch as well. I’ll be watching more👍
Aragon teaming up with the tyranids against the doctor who hired assassins from throughout history to murder him only to be betrayed by said tyranids WAS INDEED the last square on my 2024 bingo card, meaning I have won the year 2024. Unfortunately, the doctor has sent me back to 2024 b.c., which somewhat sours my victory...
I also play 'nids and know of "Drop Dead Fred" and "What About Bob?" Fun Fact: "What About Bob?" is the highest domestic grossing movie with a question mark in the title.
I should do stats sometime to see what Nerdgirl's win/loss is. That said, I absolutely adore that final play, that was some of the pettiest Magic I've seen in a while.
Aragorn and Chulane are both cast triggers, so the triggers resolve before the spells resolve. So the growth spiral scry trigger from Aragorn should have happened first, but more importantly, the lotus cobra shouldn't have another floating mana from fabled passage etb since it has not yet resolved.
i feel like veggie forgot about aragorns bolt on a stick lol. fair nuff really, the amount of crap that card can do is completely absurd, but especially with that attack stopper in hand, that removal on eowyn hurt me. happens to the best of us, great game overall, too bad about ramses, but probably deserved given mald's roast of the card lmao.
He didn’t forget, he just couldn’t do anything about it. He mentioned it when he cast the split card. Said the 4 direct damage wasn’t enough to kill Aragorn and that’s what would have saved him
Man, I'd love to see another Doctor Who commander game. Those decks, while not the most powerful, are super fun to play and watch. Just imagining all 4 decks being modified to their max potential would be hilarious
Your nails are always on point nerdgirl! And I get all those references, you’re still pretty young comparatively. I love watching Mald, keep him coming back, beard is coming in great btw.
Surprised to see Maldhound getting a bit salty at the end. Probably justified. Quincy targetting him after Aurelia bit the dust was subtle but noticeable. Unless I'm missing something about Mald's commander.
he was going to win so while it was king making, not taking him would've just been handing the game to him. At that point it was either NG with creatures or Mald with his combo on board.
@@fatherofphoenix13 The kingmaking started about 3 turns earlier. Quincy decided to completely ignore Nerdgirl even tho she was still attacking him and buillding her forces.
You might be the oldest but you are the most beautiful of your fellow magic players (Sorry Maldhound) You did show they most fear the old as you are the wisest crushing them with your giant tramplers!
By my reckonin they jus don ever find NG to be a threat until she stabs em to death despite havin a lengthy history o stabbin people to death suddenly. Mald an Veggie apparently always look scary but Mald seemed to be especially scary as the entire table took turns removin his things afore he got to do anythin cool. It's okay tho man is jus happy to touch cardboard he doesn need to win.
Nerdgirl, Airball, veggie, and Nerdmom all live in a content house. When Nerdgirl started Decked Out she invited Airball and Veggie to join the show and move to portland. As you can see they did!
I wouldn't call Quincy's last move King Making. If someone's trying to kill you it's fair game to kill them in return even if it leaves an inevitable win for someone else. It did decide the game, and not in Quincy's favor, but so would not doing anything.
It is kingmaking when there is no hidden information, where player A get the choice to stop either player B og C from winning (which both would, no questions about it). Using the charm made Mald lose, if not he would have won. So that choice did cost B the game. Definition of kingmaking. Not arguing if the move was okey or not. I personally choose to not take the game from a player if it's an actual kingmaking opportunity, where I lose no matter what. The famous "petty"-factor comes in though, and there is also nothing wrong about going that route :)
