  • The Kanheri Caves are a group of over one hundred Buddhist rock-cut monuments dating from the first century CE to the tenth century CE.
The caves are located inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, to the North of Mumbai, India, on what was formerly the island of Salsette.
With an estimated 109 caves, the Kanheri Caves are the largest Buddhist rock-cut monastery in all of India. They include stunning examples of early Indian sculpture and frescoes. Cave n. 3 is one of the largest surviving Buddhist Chaityas (Prayer Halls) from the first centuries of our era, likely built after the model of the Great Chaitya of the Karla Caves.

6:07 You are calling the temple a monastery, the statue is of Hindu Lord Buddha and not Buddh. Look properly, Buddha is wearing Geneva, which Buddh does not wear because by wearing Geneva, you become a Brahmin.

How come all the depictions of Buddha show him to have knots in his hair like to depict an African? All art of antiquity show the African in this way so as to be able to make that clear. Because only the African and her people have this unique hair. All other races have straightened hair in comparison. In fact no other being on the planet has the AFRO hair. Monkeys. Dogs. Any animal you can name have straightened hair..non have AFRO.

The Buddha was a historical figure who lived in the 7th Century BCE, an Indian prince by the name of Siddharta Gautama. There is no evidence and indeed it is the first time I even hear the possibility being mentioned of the Buddha being of African descent. In any case, I doubt curly hair are an exclusive prerogative of people of African descent. This style of representation may also have symbolic reasons. Early portraits of the Buddha from the Gandhara region were heavily influenced by Greek Hellenistic art.
