Hello Grim. Yet another fine video, my friend. The Magistracy has always been one of my favorite factions of the Battletech universe, even though I chose Davion to play mostly when I started, because everyone else was taking up Inner Sphere factions and not Periphery forces. Most only see the Magistracy as a sort of 'Las Vegas' in space. While that does play a fairly large part of the Magistracy's income potential, their medical knowledge and skills, as well as their medical technologies are more important, and of equal influence, although not in the minds of the vast majority of the populations of the various factions of the Inner Sphere and others. Since most of the roles are reversed... Magistracy armed forces would tend to be more logical in their approach to warfare, since there would be very limited 'testosterone' fueled decision-making. This would show up as a penchant for the MAF to be more deliberate in their fielding of their armed forces and units. Not taking suicidal, or otherwise risky actions, just to gain some advantage in battle. Instead, their plans would be more logically thought out and mostly run like clockwork, with some variations due to combat conditions. MAF leaders would have well established means to hold back any combat enraged males. Probably by making them see the calmness and fortitude of the surrounding females, and provoking the male 'protective' response to females they are so close to. The almost 'cold-hearted' manner of risking troops and vehicles before sending in Mech forces can seem to be a 'fault' in the MAF, but that is not considering the early MAF history of having few Mechs to field in any case. When part of your army is relatively that rare and expensive to field, you tend to rely upon units and forces that are 'cheaper' to field in numbers. I can tell you that most Mech pilots do not like to face massed tank formations, and tank units backed with good Infantry. And that does not even include 'specialized' Infantry units, or specialized tank forces. Add in Battle Armor, and you've got a Pilot's worst nightmare. BTW GDN, would you be interested in a totally fan made faction? One that is fairly well outside the usual bounds of the game? I played for decades and left the game during the whole 'dark age' and the WoB kerfuffle. I returned to playing shortly before the IL-Khan era and began rewriting the notes I had lost during the whole 'retirement' process in RL. I have several (more like over a dozen) text articles that I have written about my old Mercenary group, and what they did when they left the Inner Sphere, as well as what they built, and where. My stuff is not as logically laid out as most TROs though, so you might have to sift through the various texts to get at any particular item of data, but the whole should give a good 'view' of the government that was founded, its history, and the units that were created from that. Meanwhile, I still have to get around to writing a rather long article on the Mech forces for said organization... since they tend to alter and modify just about any Mech that they get their hands upon, and then produce that variation for their armed forces. And I have not even got around to writing up the Infantry, Vehicle, or Aerospace forces at all, at this time. And please remember, if you do accept this offer, that all my writings are based upon tabletop results, and my own logical decisions post-battle. As well as the fact that all of this is from memory, and not based upon the rather extensive notes I had accumulated over decades, due to an apartment fire.
My condolences to your loss of your grandmother I know how it feels to Watching some one you love pass away I hope it's get's better for you my best wishes for you thracker
Thanks for covering my favorite non-clan/comstar faction. While you hit on the catgirl meme a bit I appreciate in the large part you did a serious look at the MAF. While the periphery in general has less writtenabout it than the major IS states, there is still more to the MoC then catgirls (based on one b&w art piece) and sex work, which is work and doesn't need to be denigrated in general.
Says who? cause if not the lore and just crazy cis men are superior ideology then piss off out of here with that if it is the lore like some cultural reason like women are seen as to valuable to be anything less than an officer then fair enough and I'll delete my comment.
Makes absolutely no sense that the have some of the , "Best medicine in the innersphere" shamans from modern day tribe's should have better medicine than them.😅😅
Depends....the middles ages couldn't read...LATIN, but they did have a written language & math. So the MoC should be able to read & write just fine, even if it's not what the IS uses. You HAVE to have Witten language to function.
Thats what happens when you only care about like 5 out of the forty-something worlds in your polity. Everybody on those 5 worlds is golden. The others? Better hope your parents can teach you lmao.
I wish the mod that splits the independents up into their separate tiny factions didn't conflict with the rest of my preferred mods. I've always wondered why Canopus cares how hard I screw up the Marion Hegemony, or why the Duchy of Andurien cares how ruthlessly I put down some tiny world 15 jumps away from them, in another Great House's territory entirely.
Oh boy Mike you really savagely Got in to this one yeah I couldn't really take this faction seriously either although you have to be very careful not to underestimate Anybody who looks bizarre let's just say but trying to look like Victoria's secret ain't going to help you win any wars of course In my native American heritage face paint that looked very intimidating and add in some Shouts and screams it will do Wonders into showing who Not to mess with
Yeah, though I've watched your faction overview video on the Canopans, GDN, I struggle to take this bunch seriously from a military consideration at the level of BattleTech. A nation bereft of a military establishment within the warmaking/boardgaming basis of this very universe? That sounds like an experimental idea by the FASA creators that they should have discarded for any serious, non-background group. I think their stylized stars, as Magistracy symbols not the formation, look goofy. That a separate image of Lady Centrella's hand had to be included on her character sheet after 3:00 so as to show off her finger rings, is indicative of Canopan priorities in a constantly (necessarily) warring galaxy. Actually, since this faction's governmental organization seems only suitable straining towards competent at medical care, Centrella's uniform looks like that of a space nurse, too. Way to go. The Support Corps at least sounds highly-encompassing in practicality, rather than simply bloated bureaucracy. I'm certain these catgirls could only benefit from instruction by some Adeptus Sororitas-like soldiers to truly face the militant threats within BattleTech. Though, as another commenter (Latter Day Gamers) noted, the Magistracy's literacy rate is embarassingly, humiliatingly very low. Would military members of any rank even be able to read the initials of the M.I.M.? So...their “high school level” much less anything higher ranked would be 'accomplished' only through perpetual RUclips viewing? Much like this cryptically “progressive” century of our real world, actually! “Volunteer” as an official lowest rank to this organization is amusing. The Lyrans' military may be known for stubborn incompetence in general but the Canopans have to be very close competitors when they're on their own without any alliance for anything to do with militancy. Well, this installment was as fun and thorough as your other entries to this subseries, Narrator. Highly enetertaining...not merely with tongue-in-cheek humour at the MAF. With much thanks to you, until your next sign on to BattleTech, have an awesome and healthy week, GDN.
Well, there's the actively anti-military folks up in the Outworlds Alliance. Some of those worlds don't even allow garrison mechs on the surface or in orbit (or, at least, they didn't until the Ravens moved in).

@@GrimDarkNarrator Thanks for the clarification! Anyway I want to thank for the series! That's fantastic how you collect those infos, my drive to work on monday is done with them :)
The Magistracy of Canopus sounds like one of those factions that are too stupid to survive. Any over-zealous general, pirate, or washed-up merc force should be able to overthrow the government and institute a new one within little to no opposition. This is one of the few BT factions that I can't stand.
The problem with that is that Canopus effectively set itself up as neutral ground among everybody, because not even the hardest, most swashbuckling pirate or grittiest merc wants to lose the opportunity to spend their money at space vegas. Its like Mr. house in New Vegas, Any serious power *could* come through and take over, but to do that they'd have to take enough forces to overcome the hundreds of merc bands *and pirates* that one hundred percent would get hired to fight for their favorite brothel, drug dealer, and gambling house, and if any great house were to move those military forces away from other fronts, the others would pounce on them almost immediately.

You had me at Catgirl Army in space.
Pretty good information , great job 👍
Get it right, it's Cat Boys, because despite them being Matriarchal, young males are still the primary military recruit.
It's quite obvious. Boys don't have a timeout for pregnancy and you don't need many of them for population growth.
I saw mostly artworks of female mechwarriors though.

I have to comment this every time I see a video about the Magistracy. They can't read, they have a canon literacy rate less than 20 percent.
If those kids could read they would be very upset.

How does their armed forces operate on 20%? Unless only the military reads?
