One mention: There is a Virtual MAC address associated with the VIP so when the Active shuts down, the MAC address table on the switch changes only after a device in the LAN sends ARP request for the VIP that is now found through the port connected to the Passive one. The switch doesn't know IP.
One question, lets say PA is in Active-Standby pair, configured with VIP, once failover happens how the underlying L3 device would know which device IP among the pair, the packet need to route to ?

Link monitoring will fail and failover triggered. So generally we will need two switch for redundancy
